The cooperation between the leading sport-business fair ISPO MUNICH 2012 and the unique mountain festival and platform International Mountain Summit from Brixen/South Tyrol placing the special photography exhibition “The Mountaineers” in the halls of the fair in Munich, Germany. 42 portraits of mountain personalities next to stunning alpine landscapes will fascinate the 60.000 expected visitors and more than 2.300 exhibitors from well over 100 different countries.

The pictures of some of the world’s best alpinists and climbers have been taken by the photographer Manuel Ferrigato during the last three editions of the International Mountain Summit in Brixen, which annually attracts mountain lovers from all over the world. 2011 the IMS counted over 12.000 visitors.

The exhibition permits to face big personalities such as Reinhold Messner, Hans Kammerlander, Sir Chris Bonington or Steve House. Amongst them there are daredevils such as Chris Sharma or Ines Papert, skydiver Dean Potter, the Huberbuam and women’s climbing legend Lynn Hill.

Worth seeing are also the metal frames of these incredible pictures, specifically made for the exhibition from the South Tyrolean company Metall Ritten.

You can admire „The Mountaineers“ from Sunday 29 January through Wednesday 1 February in the East Atrium of the ISPO MUNICH between the Halls A6 and B6.

“The Mountaineers”

The exhibition „The Mountaineers“ arranges portraits of world-renowned mountaineers, photographed during the last two editions of the International Mountain Summit, and climbers on par with abstract landscapes. Unvarnished and straightforward humans next to rock formations. Still eyes catch a wink of nature. With razor-sharp poetry, Manuel Ferrigato captures entire landscapes in the portrayed mountaineers‘ expressions. And at the same time he casts longing looks at mighty rocks, as if they were part of us all. Manuel Ferrigato has resisted cosmopolitan arbitrariness and formed his own distinctive style. His portfolio is a confession of sincere passions.

Consistent face-to-face portraits and landscape stills taken with an expert eye to the perspective reflect the close bond he has with his roots. The South Tyrolean studied Industrial Design in Milan and found fulfillment in architecture and interior photography at first. He has been living and working in Hamburg for 5 Years.

With his clear but empathetic pictorial language, Manuel penetrates monotonous fronts and formulates authentic scenes of man and nature.
