Alex Honnold recently joined the legendary Peter Croft in becoming only the second person in history to free solo both Astroman (5.11c, 10 pitches) and The Rostrum (5.11c, 8 pitches) in Yosemite Valley, California, in a single day. Honnold took all the harder variations on Astroman, including the 5.11c Boulder Problem and the 5.11b pitch above the Harding Slot.

In addition to Croft and Honnold, Dean Potter made the only other known free solo of Astroman.

i think free solo is the absolute craziest most badass form of climbing there is. Even on 5.7's and "easy" walls its just nuts. congrats to alex

The technical skill, the stamina, and the mental discipline necessary to pull off a feat like this is awe-inspiring. Since I am sorely lacking in all three, I'll simply hunker down in my cowardice and read about such accomplishments with admiration.

Given that the average ascent time for Astroman is 10 hours, and for the Rostrum is 6 to 8, neither might meet the definition of "Big Wall".

Huge accomplishment even without the embellishment...!

I agree with Brian. I don't think it is accurate to say he soloed two big walls in a day with a couple of grade IVs. I would say that he free-soloed two very difficult grade IVs in a day. Again, I agree, huge accomplishment.

Free Soloing any two grade V or higher routes in a day would be considered 'two big walls in a day.' Anybody know if it's been down yet? There are obviously only a couple places in the world where one could pull that off..
