Threats and verbal abuse of moderators

Hi everyone,

Recently there have been an increase in threats and verbal abuse of Rockclimbing.com moderators by some users of the site. This is not a wide-spread phenomenon, so my message pertains to only a few individuals. Still, this has gone on for a while, and my patience with this behavior has run out.

I understand that moderators and their judgment aren't perfect. You are welcome to disagree with them in the forums or in private, and have them explain their decisions and actions. Within our rules there is a lot of room for debate and holding moderators accountable. You can also let me (or philbox, our lead mod) know if you have a concern about a moderator, their actions, or their ability to be an effective moderator. We will deal with all such complaints.

If, however, you resort to any kind of verbal abuse of a moderator, personal attack or threat, whether in the forums, via e-mail, PM, or even in person or over the phone (yes, this has happened too) I will bring the hammer down and disable your username without any further warning.

Moderators are volunteers who invest a lot of time and energy to help create and sustain Rockclimbing.com as a free resource to everyone. For this they get very little credit and generally a lot of criticism. Still, their commitment to you is that they will continue to show you respect. Please do the same in return.

Thank you.

DDT
