I used to be interested in Power Lifting. I did one Bench and Dead meet, then got injured and lost interest. I used a bunch of crazy overly complicated routines before reading Practical Programming by Mark Rippetoe and switching to his Starting Strength routine despite thinking I was far too advanced for it, but it worked wonders. If you are eating sufficiently and pushing yourself, it can take you farther than you think possible.

I just started back to the gym. I don't plan on competing or anything though. I'm using Pavel's Power to the People routine, which is really low volume. One workout consists of only Overhead Press and Deadlift done for one set of 5 followed by one set of 3 and finally one set of 2. That's it. You do it up to 5 times per week. I'm hoping the low volume will allow me to continue climbing as much as I normally do.

I also recently constructed a sandbag which I plan on carrying around and running up hills with, but I'm currently too weak to even lift it off the ground.
