Ok sorry about this but All betting starts over now, and only counts if it's posted in the thread. The person that is the closest without going over wins one of the camhooks I've made (once again recipient takes responsibility for the hook after getting it). Adatesman says the machine will go down to .00445kn so no guessing the same as anyone else. Good luck... Edit to add link in other direction www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2093274;page=unread#unread And for spelling

wooden cam without sling: 3.31493 kN with sling: 1.89227 kN with your wooden cams, the Fellowship would have made it over the Redhorn Pass by Caradhras, and Gandalf would not have fallen from the Bridge of Khazad-dûm! and, Frodo and Sam could have ditched Gollum at Shelob's Lair, and climbed up and over the Tunnel, thereby avoiding the costly and risky delay in the tunnel and at the Tower of Cirith Ungol

4.37 kN I don't think the cam would have helped at the pass. but he could have plugged it into that flake he was hanging from on the bridge and then he wouldn't have fallen. but then he would have still been the grey wizard, and mordor would have won the war... ok, this is getting a little too dorky, even for me. yeah, I always wondered how there could be a valley with only two ways into it. I mean there has to be some moderate col or something that they could have climbed over, of course they didn't have a set of ye old cams, so maybe facing a giant spider monster was safer than a potentially crater from a mountain top.

My guess on cam destruction is 0.72kN for the string sling and 2.15kN for the cam, ignoring the string sling.

Cams would have led to Sauron's victory I tell you and then us 4th Agers would all be ORCS. But I don't wanna be an ORC! DMT

Again my vote is 3.0 kN without the sling. With the sling I'd say 1.0 kN. FYI 1 kN = 224.8 lbf

2.5kn Edit: I saw EDM guess that, but I guessed first in the old thread. If mine does not count, then I guess 2.25kn

adatesman wrote: Bad news everybody.... I just found a flaw in Coolcat's evil plan- I'm doing the destruction Sunday/Monday but we won't know the results of the BP until Wednesday. So unless you all can convince him to destroy it before Sunday I'm afraid that we'll never know how strong it really is..... BTW, my deadline for submitting the writeup is Thursday, so postponing the breakage or doing his after the BP isn't an option. well we all know that it's not going to be a contender in the general comp, so then in that case just break the thing later independently of the comp, if that's ok with you. it was originally going to be a beauty only entry anyway, so leave it at that and this will just be a side thing, that way should I win you can just break it at your leisure.

I was thinking next year we should have an all wood class. The entire thing must be made from organic materials, no metal or polymers (accept for the springs, extra points if you come up with an all organic spring). To make it easier we could have limitations on size (i.e. within a certain width and a range around a #2 BD or so). It would have to be shaped and work like a cam. What do you all think?
