I know I am new here, but would love to get together with other Connecticut climbers. Please post here if you are a Connecticut resident, and if your preference is indoor, outdoor, or either or. I am indoor only but literally just started doing this.

I'm in Ct, let me know what you climb in the gym, and we can figure out a way to get you outdoors.

Remember I am new..so be gentle. Seriously, I just did my first climb, class, just about everything this Saturday. Pasted below basically gives you an idea of what I am about, and why I am looking for a partner. It is a reply to a CT person seeking a partner. But before we get into that, I am at this point so new I really have no interest in climbing outside, hell I am afraid of heights. But facing that each time I am up there; as soon as I reach the top I immediately say the magic phrase, "Got rope?" which is the gyms way of saying I am ready to get down now. Will I ever climb outdoors? You never know, but at so early in game, I presently have no desire to do so. Keep in mind that is NOT set in stone. ***Reply from other post*** I am interested. I just took a class this past Saturday, and the next time I go I need to get tested. Here is the link to the place: http://www.primeclimb.com Once I get past the test, and I find a partner (which could be you) I am interested in doing this one Saturday or Sunday every week or every other week. With family and other responsibilities it's hard to say. I have the knots down, and I know I am reliable for the guy I was partnered with was not light, and he fell off the wall about 20 feet high and the only drop he felt was that of the rope expanding. The reason I am looking for a partner for the one and only time I did this (during the class) I saw the entire class making errors in places they should not have. I am anything but an expert on this, but I know from the class alone you need complete control of the rope. As long as you take the slack as it comes, and stay in lock position while being anchored, then all is good. I did not see that with my partner or the couple that was there. So I want a partner that I can rely on doing that, and can take tips from me where I see needs improvement and vice-versa. Also, I want to have a trust with someone, so I know if I take that plunge, they are there to keep me from falling. Lastly, I am a former (20 plus years) resident of Stamford so I am very familiar with the city and where the Vertical place is. However, I am now a northern CT resident, so I am willing to go to Stamford but I expect my partner is also will to switch off to my place too especially for my test in Waterbury which is so easy to get to: exit 26 of route 8 take a right second light make a right, it's in there.

Primeclimb is my home gym too, I like the atmosphere, and they have a pretty good variety of stuff. On the other hand, I won't be in there until the snow melt seeps down and makes the rock unclimbable. Just can't see spending the money on a gym when I could be dropping it on gear. Keep climbing, you should have fun and meet some good people at PC. Who knows, maybe someone will talk you into getting on some real rock by the fall (best time by far in Ct, and Northeast in general). Otherwise, see you in Dec/ January.

Update, I realized just now that restricting weekends only would be stupid on my part. Well due to how my job is now, and other things in my life, after work one or two days between Tuesday to Friday would be best for me. Never ever on Monday, that is poker night and I need the money.

Is this an open thread for all CT climbers? I've only been climbing for about 8-9 months and I really want to get outside on some real rock. Pulling plastic is alright but I'd rather be outside especially with the weather we've been having. As for equipment: (2) 10' tubular slings (1) 7mm cordelette (2) quickdraws (5) locking carabiners Yes, and of course I have a harness and ATC, but no helmet. I don't own a rope yet, but I hope to soon. As for indoor gyms I climb at Go Vertical in Stanford. :righton:

In reply to: Is this an open thread for all CT climbers?...As for indoor gyms I climb at Go Vertical in Stanford. :righton: Absolutely to the first question. You mean Stamford right? I have only interest in indoor climbing for now. Trying to get this thread marked as sticky to be next to all the other State threads.

Hey all. I guess we could try to get this stickied. Probably need some posts first :P My name's chris, i've been climbing for about 4 years, this last one seriously. I have two harnesses and a full toprope setup, not to mention knowledge of a few outdoor places in the area, and i have been to most of the gyms around here. I actually enjoy the gym about as much as i enjoy outdoor climbing due to the huge amount of variety available at one location. Feel free to send me a PM anytime.

Connecticut climbers unite! We are a rare breed and should huddle together for power...and warmth if it gets cold out. I've been climbing for 3 years now, I know many of the areas in the state quite well, and I've climbed indoors at Prime Climb in Wallingford, Stone Age in Manchester and the defunct gym in Torrington. Though I'm young in human and climbing years, I could probably be a big help if anyone needs questions answered about Connecticut climbing. Feel free to send me PM's. Happy trails to all. -Josh

hey all My names Devin and I'm sort of a lurker around rc.com. I figure there are so many other people who don't know what they are talking about, just one more who doesn't would add to the confusion :) I have been climbing seriously for about a year and a half. My favorite area in CT has to be Pinnacle. I like ice climbing. I just started that last winter. da5id: The gym in Torrington is looking to relocate and is still running programs outside. later dev

I'll pop back up to offer my services. Been climbing for about 4 years, off and on. I'm in the Hamden area, and I know most of the CT cliffs pretty well. I have a full toprope setup, I've led a bunch of sport, but I'm just now building my trad rack (set of nuts, set of tricams, couple c4's on order). PM me if your interested in climbing.

My name is Matt, and I have been climbing for about a year off and on indoors. I usually climb in Rutland, VT (I goto school up there), but I am home for the summer and would love to meet up with people to climb. I don't have any gear yet, but I hope to get some soon. Does anyone know is there is any cliimbing set up on talcott mountain? I live in Simsbury and I think those cliffs would be a lot of fun to climb. Feel free to contact me through these boards or through AIM. I have yet to climb outdoors, but I want to try it. If anyone ever wants to meet up in a gym, too, let me know (Not sure which gym is the best, I have been to the one in Manchester and Wallingford so far).

I think it'd be a great idea if we all got together for some climbing in the near future. A connecticut unite! meeting. We could barbeque and do some top rope somewhere. A little more about me. Name, as i said, is chris. i'm 22. You can also call me dude. This name is an inside joke. My friend hung out with my sister's fiancee and i one day, and he for some reason, cannot address me without saying dudeman. example: "dude, man, chris, you have to come to NY to visit us again soon" I've been to stone age in manchester, go vertical in stamford. been climbing at sleepy giant, and the crags at that park in woodbury. up for climbing anywhere at most times, (almost any time with enough notice.) I redpoint 5.11's, but am most comfortable leading at 5.9 or under. my shoes are green.

hey all There are a few CT climbers organizations that I know of already, the RMF being one. Another group that I have heard about and been meaning to meet up with has been The Connecticut Climbers and Mountaineers they meet every Wednesday during the summer at a different CT crag for climbing, its an open invite, and I hear its a pretty good time, now all I need is a wednesday off. You should all check these groups out cause they are great organizations. later dev

I was just pointing out that the AMC, She Climbs, and another group all climb wed nights. I think it would more beneficial to pick another night that way people would have more options of people to climb with. I'd go for Tuesdays or Thursdays. With other people we'd pick a time to climb, like four or five and just let people trickle in as they got done with work.

this is amazing, here i am wishing i had more people to climb with other than this one dope who calls himself "sustained climber" and what should appear but a ct climbing thread. i live in canton, think farmington valley, and am always desperately needing to climb, as long as work allows it. please, if anyone wants a partner, i can lead or set up topropes, or just boulder. i don't know how this PM stuff works and i don't check this site enough to remember but my email is sshahverdian@excite.com if anyone needs someone to tie in with. scott

Hey everybody. I'm Josh. Work in Hartford, live in West Hartford. Been climbing for 18 years, on and off. I have two ropes, full rack, and heinously out of shape (too busy to climb much) body. Any weekday works for me after work. I can get to anywhere within an hour or so from Hartford in time to climb, but would rather stay as close to home as possible (maximum climbing time). I'm not above gym climbing, but if it's nice out, I'd rather be outside. Let's get this thing stickied and put in the partners area. If that happens, though, it will stop reflecting on the front page. Hope to meet up sometime soon.

In reply to: this is amazing, here i am wishing i had more people to climb with other than this one dope who calls himself "sustained climber" and what should appear but a ct climbing thread. Scott I think I'm going to cry. No, seriously, the tears are building up in my eyes as we speak. But since you said something, I'll add as well. We try to get out as much as we can, even if it's a three hour stint from 6pm to dark. Company in an even number would be greatly appreciated.
In reply to: Does anyone know is there is any cliimbing set up on talcott mountain? Answer to this question is that talcott mountain like many other unpublished crags in Connecticut are choss piles. Trap Rock has to the right consistency or else it's a death trap. Happy climbing to all, hope to see you out on the rock. -Josh

Climbed with JohnG today at pinnacle. After a late start he lead a nice easy 5.8ish crack, and i followed up. After that we tried some toprope on a vertical face with 2 routes, a 5.10 and an 5.11. I tried both but thanks to a ton of driving, poor nutriotion and a little gym rust neither were happening. John took the 5.10 like a champ. Great belayer too! :righton:

dudemanbu, do you know exactly what climbs you guys did? The 5.8 could have been any number of climbs, but the 10 was probably entertainer, a classic climb, and the 11 was probably funshine. Good to see that this forum is working already! I must say I was also excited to see it on the front page when I woke up this morning, and tonight after work. It's one of the things that keeps me going. Goodnight fellow climbers! -Josh

yep, funshine and entertainer were the two we took cracks at. The 5.8 was the second (third?) crack over to the right from funshine. i gotta get myself a guidebook!

I'm in New Haven from now until August 6th and have been climbing in Wallingford at Prime Climb for the past few weeks. I'm relatively new to climbing but am comfortable with setting top rope anchors and have done one multi-pitch climb as a second. At this point I'm climbing between 5.6 and 5.8 depending on the type of climb, rock, etc... I don't have much time off from my summer job (we get every other evening off from 6pm on) right now, and no weekend time that I don't already have commitments for, but if there's any outdoor climbing going on on a night off in the New Haven area I'd love to join. -Pat

A little more about me here... My name is Pat and I've climbed a few times over the past several years at different climbing gyms and boyscout camp, etc... Last month I did a mountaineering course with NOLS that included a 10 day rock climbing section in the Cascades and it hooked me on climbing. I'm 21 and right now am looking to climb as much as my schedule allows for the rest of the summer before doing some climbing up in New Hampshire with a friend. Next week I'd be able to clime on Tuesday(12) and maybe Thursday(14), and could climb on Mon. (18), Wed.(20), or Fri.(22), the following week.

climbed with pcook today completely by accident after the meetup at pinnacle was rained out. We worked on a few boulder problems for a bit, and concluded that prime climb's bouldering wall has a lot of missing tape, but definitely some fun climbs. There was a "stretchy" V4ish route that we were both working on towards the end, after making an adustment on the end move i sent it and had to take off, i can only imagine pat nailed it a few mins after i left. If anyone's up for climbing at west rock in the near future, suggest a date and pat and i will try to meet up with you.

I haven't nailed that boulder problem yet but am getting closer. Some good problems there at Prime Climb if you can figure out where the tape's supposed to be! Let Chris or I know if anyone would be willing to do some climbing at West Rock some evening after work, otherwise I'm usually at Prime Climb a few times a week so let me know if you're gonna be there.

PM me if you are interested in joining us at Prime Climb. What started as a small idea is already growing. What I have now is dudemanbu and taualum23 meeting me at Prime Climb after work on Wednesday 7/13 which is probably between the hours of 5 to 6pm for a hour or more of climbing. Since we are finding more and more people in the CT area, we decide to start a group email for PrimeClimb days to meet up there for a few hours of climbing. If you would like to join us on the email list, PM me with your email address, and your name. I will probably begin working on the list tonight and so far we have a total of three people on it. Plus if this thing grows, we might be able to get discounts at PrimeClimb. I would like to add, females too. I promised my wife I would not have a partner that is a girl, but if we were to all go as a group, and a female is part of the group, then that is okay with her. In short, whether you are a noob like me, female, male, come join us, get in shape with us, and have fun. That is what this is really about, having fun.

In reply to: When I make it to Prime Climb I usually get there around 6:30 and will often stay right up until closing at 10 and am always in need of a climbing partner. Great. Count me in for next Wed. Depending on traffic, I might get there by 7, 7:30, 8?

wend, i'm going to try to get my brother out to go vertical on sunday, he only gym climbs, and i haven't seen him in a while. I wanted to get him to the gunks, but no luck on that one. so if you're available, we're probably going to head down for the off peak time.

To those thinking about primeclimb on the e-mail list, I usually can't get down until 5:30 or so, and tend to clibm for a number of hours, so no worries if you can't get there till later, we should all be able to climb together. This would be great. who is in so far fro next wednesday? We could all also get out for some local rock some evenings.

Their "off-peak" hours on Sun. are listed as 6-8 only ($13). 10am-6pm is peak ($17). Just let me know when you guys plan on showing up. I was actually there last sunday at 10am and it was vacant, but I suspect that was a fluke due to the holiday weekend...

Gang: I'm going to stop this thread from echoing to the front page, as we've done with other such threads (Front Range Climbers thread, Mass Climbers Thread, Hoosier Climber thread, etc.) It is not getting locked, deleted, altered, or otherwise tampered with. Only stopping the echo to the FP, in order to be fair. I hope y'all understand. And I've gotta admit, I had no idea there was such climbing in Connecticut. Might have to make a road trip to the NE sometime. Take care, climb safe.

It turns out I may get some time off Sunday evening..... I was thinking of going to Go Vertical as well if in fact they do decide to be human and give me some free time. I'll let you guys know if that's actually the case and looks like it'll be a reality. -Pat

In reply to: how about a sticky? I've brought that to the attention of the other mods and admin folks. I honestly don't know how to sticky a thread other than if I start a thread, I can make it sticky. I'm sure there's probably a way for me to do it, but I don't know how. I'm pretty computer illeterate that way. Hell, I just found out that I can do more than type stuff in Word and play Free Cell, so bear with me. I'm working on it, honest. Thanks for understanding. P.S. That whole computer illeterate part? Can someone tell me what "Format C:" will do?

went out with n.e. climber (a.k.a. Scott) to Broad Hill in Granby tonight. We got out there after 6pm and were able to get 5-6 climbs in on two top-ropes before we took everything down and got back in the car at 8:50. Our speed and efficiency even amazes us. Climb on y'all! -Josh

It's in the Connecticut Climbing Guide Book in "Other Areas" and it's called Broad Hill (a.k.a. Diamond Ledge). I know that the road it's on is called Broad Hill Rd. which I think is off of Simsbury Rd. If you mapquest it, I'm sure it'll give you the directions. For more specific stuff, just drop into EMS or Country Sports and look at the guidebook. Hell I may even be there, I work at EMS in Simsbury. Adios. -Josh

Hey everybody. At least two of us will be at Primeclimb tonight. I'll be around, ask for Josh. I'll be wearing some ugly-ass shorts, and a tan tank-top. Look for the sweating, out of shape guy, with a couple tattoos, falling off easy problems. I'd like to get to know some of you guys who meet up for after-work rock around Hartford. I know one of the folks coming has not passed their belay test, so if another climber could make it, we could switch belays. Take it easy all, Josh

Hey, bigvilegrape, a lack of outdoor partners (and time) has kept me indoors far too much. WHere is Pinnacle? How far from Hartford? I'd love to meet up sometime. And rigolin, wendella--great meeting you guys yesterday. had a great time. Wendy, we'll have to climb together sometime when I haven't been bouldering for 2 hours first....I might have a touch more stamina.

I'm hoping to come up again next week to meet pcooke; will let you know when. Thanks for climbing with me!!! p.s. I totally gave up on the bouldering probs after you left. Couldn't find any that I could complete (big surprise ;)

Its half an hourish from hartford... 84 west exit 33 to rt 72 west, exit 2 onto rt 372 east (its a pain in the ass you have to get all the way over at the 72 exit because the 372 exit is the first one up.) take a right at the light, then left onto metacomet road at the first light. you follow that up till you see a parking lot that is blocked off by some boulders. Drive past that until the no parking signs end and park on the street... theres usually at least a car or two there. My schedual is rather spastic at the moment so I never know when I'm getting out to climb... this whole lack of a job thing is tough; I wind up going all over the place to do thinsg :)

Had fun, hands are raw flesh though and the back aches...I might head there again tonight honestly. But I will be going next week. Anybody down for some bouldering (I'm pretty bad) but hey you meet a new climber. Josh whenever you can teach me the knots I'll drive wherever you need me to. Hope all is well. Nice meeting you wendy! Josh how much for that board? -Mike

BVG, thanks for the directions. Let me know when you are heaing over after work hours and I'll see if I can meet you. Wendy- if you are heading back next week, and no outdoor climbing looks like it's happening, I'll come back down. NO BOULDERING first this time. The problems are pretty tough there, but if you want to work on iot, we can always jsut "add" holds to existing problems until you can work your way up. You were climbing great, especially considereing how new you are to the sport, don't let indoor boulder problems discourage you. Mike- yup, raw hands, aching back, and wanting to go right back today...sounds about right! Careful not to overdo it. As for the board, let me find out what one goes for new, and I'll proibably ask for like half that, as it is used and all. Everybody else-- so, when is anybody getting outdoors again for an after-work session anywhere with an hour of hartford?

I'm around though monday if anyone wants to try and meet up and play. As sick of it as I am Pinnicle is good for afterwork sutff since its so close to the road. I actually want to try super mantel and super slab over on the far leftside. THo there is a freaky wall up there so I'm not sure how setting up TR anchors is gonna go for that.

Trip Report: Climbed with kims this Sat. Kim recently moved here from the UK, and is looking to meet people to climb with: both indoors and outdoors. Kim: great climbing with you again! Thanks so much for your patience with a noob – esp. with letting me try those technical routes! We climbed for about 4 hrs. Luckily the weather held. Unfortunately, the air conditioning could have been quite a bit lower for my tastes… Zing.  :P Seriously, thanks to everyone on this board whom I've climbed with. (with whom I've climbed??) I really appreciate your kindness, patience and guidance! Hope someone else has an outdoor trip to report. :D Wendy

Greetings everyone, Never had success with online forums before but here's another shot... Just got back from a great day at the gunks and have been reminded of how much better I feel after a few pitches. I was also reminded how big some of those crags are and how pathetic my stamina is after a roof or three. I live in Hartford and work around the state during the week, but am frequently free for afternoons or after work. I have about 7 years of experience and am pretty motivated. I don't check forums often so please email me at ibarrett@holly.colostate.edu. Please give me a shout because I am all about meeting new people. cheers, ian

dudemanbu - hope you're feeling better!! Well, xvolokos (a fellow CT climber who can be found at G.V. during the week) got me out to the Gunks this weekend to climb with some friends of his. Awesome time! Can't recall ever being so exhausted in my life. (No wonder you ppl are all so thin!) I'll bet we saw license plates from half of the states - clearly a popular climbing destination. (pls forgive me for sounding like such a noob). Two experiences I wanted to share with you guys: 1). Early in the day we saw a huge dead tree spontaneously crack apart from its root system and go crashing down the mountain. No warning; very abrupt. Thankfully we were above it. 2). Later, two ppl were tr-ing next to us. The climber yelled "falling rock", and a small boulder approx. 8" by 4" slammed down less than a foot from the belayer's head. He wasn't wearing a helmet, and understandably became quite pale. Note to self: never stand down the mountain from a dead tree and always wear a helmet when belaying.

If you're toproping, Peters Kill has less loose rock and easier toprope access than the Trapps and Near Trapps...

Hi all, this is my first post on RC.com. I live in Westport and I'm looking for people to go climbing with. I've been climbing for about a year and a half and I'll be at Go Vertical in Stamford tommorrow probably around two o'clock. If there is anyone who would like to meet for some climbing that would be great.

More people to climb at Go-Vertical souds great. Mon.-Weds after 6:00 are usually good. Next week is kind of booked but after that we're golden. Is anyone interest in climbing at Pinnacle or Rattle snake Sunday (8/7)? Wouldn't mind getting a group of people together. I know dudeman wanted to get a CT unite climb together. Scratch Sunday, Monday would be better. All interested in a monday group climb PM me. :righton: Sean

In reply to: Hi all, this is my first post on RC.com. I live in Westport and I'm looking for people to go climbing with. I've been climbing for about a year and a half and I'll be at Go Vertical in Stamford tommorrow probably around two o'clock. If there is anyone who would like to meet for some climbing that would be great. Hi wambear1. I also live in Westport and climb at GV, usually on Thursday nights (8 pm to closing), sometimes on Tuesaday nights. Let me know next time you are planning to go.

Thought I'd chime in. This is a great idea. I've been visiting CT for twenty years, and have always looked for climbing partners. Mostly ripping it up at the New River Gorge and Seneca Rocks right now, but will be around near the end of the month and would love to meet people and climb. My local is Branford. I've climbed a lot at Ragged, which doesn't seem to have been mentioned so far. It's got a lot of climbs, and they've done considerable work fixing it up. Pinnacle once, Cathole Pass once. The Gunks a lot. That place is a mecca, the crossroads of eastern climbing. 2 1/4 hours from Branford. Not bad at all. Mike Burke, we've e-mailed in the past and have never gotten together. Hopefully soon. All my best regards for your efforts. It's wonderful.

Anyone up for climbing tomorrow Sat. 8/6 or 8/7??? I have only been out a few times this year and absolutely can not wait any longer. I have been traveling lately and finally have some time off of work. The weather looks sweet for tomorrow. If there are any laid back decent climbers who are serious about climbing this weekend please reply! I know you have never seen me on this site before so here is a quick background: located 10min from Ragged but willing to travel. 15yrs on/off climbing experience (mostly sport in CO,CA,OR,MT) Have brand new 70m rope :D and sport gear pathetically unconditioned and a bit rusty, probably would have to stay below 5.11 for now. However, I'll try anything on top rope. easy to get along with and willing to climb 5.8-5.12 with any decent person who knows what an ATC is and how to use it.

Hey guys...LTNS. Sorry I haven't been around, but still not in a position to put the time that is needed into this sport at this time. Not sure if I ever will, but I still have the bug, so we'll just have to wait and see. Glad to see the CT thread has been made sticky.

hey all, Ended up bouldering up at rattlesnake by myself today, bouldering for me really just a reminder of how terrible a climber I actually am. Tommorrow I might be headed out to Pinnacle with a friend of mine, anyone who is free is welcome to join. Now I'm off to search for the interweb for more V0- problems in CT later dev

Hello all again, I went to the gunks today, got rained off, finally led Horseman though before the rain started so that was nice. I would be up for climbing on Friday at anytime, anywhere if anyone is free. I was hoping to get out sometime in the afternoon this week, but I'm pretty booked. But I have all of friday open. PM me, anyone and everyone see ya'lls later dev

it's actually cooled off very nicely. I did a little impromptu TR at orenaug park today. I was driving by on my way home and saw a few cars so i stopped in. Met a nice kid, Eric, who climbs all the time at the gunks and around here. How long's the drive to red river?

i've shaken the majority of the indoor dust off and am back to the 5.10 range, thankfully. Onsighted one of them at orenaug today, (crocodile terrace). I'm going to head back to take another crack at funshine after this weekend, which is either at rumney, the gunks or back at Quincy quarries. Also started building my rack. Got a set of nuts, a few small cams, two larger ones, and the pink tricam.

Hey ya'lls I was wondering if anyone has climbed at St. Johns Ledges before. I have been up there multiple times, but never climbing. The lower cliffs are pretty short, but don't look too bad, and that slab looks like alot of fun if thats your thing and you like run outs. There is also some other wall around there apparently thats got some quality runs on it, but I don't know where it is, its called the EMC wall or something. just starting some conversation I guess later dev

Yeah i have been up there a lot recently. Use the lower runs to warm up with and then tend to have fun on the multiple runs on the upper ledges. As Far as the EMC...I am not sure and would love to know where they are. Now i am going to find hout somehow, ha. Actually going to head up to the ledges this friday hopefully and if anyone wants to join, feel free. Dave

there is gumby to greatness and the graduate on the lower crag, and like 6 5.10 slab routes in the middle of the upper ledges. gumby to greatness follows just to the right of a massive moss covered section, the graduate is about 20ft left of that

The best thing to do would be to call around to all the rock gyms/stores. Go to the EMS/REI websites and get the CT store locations (and maybe the NY ones too, since you're in fairfield). Also call around to all the rock gyms. Their info is listed on this site. Anyone up for climbing tomorrow (wednesday)? Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Or sunday? Since john moved i'm having real problems getting out.

The only two places I know of in Fairfield county are in Fairfield on mountain laural road. Mountain laural is some what close to a lake but not really. Mostly bouldering. The other place is in greenwitch, called ladins rock. it can be a little tricky to find if you have never been there. There are only a couple of routes. I climb at GV once in a while, if I'm in I'll look you up. Sean

dev and i went to whitestone today, practically in my backyard, trad style of course. First lead was more of a 5.0 junk climb, but after that we did three pretty decent leads. Dev pulled an interesting layback reachy crux over a roof no problem on the lead, so naturally following i fell on it. Did my first lead on my own gear (a few borrowed slings and a number 1 camalot withstanding.) All in all not bad

yeah, so... I'm an early riser. I hate it, my job kinda forced me into it. Are any of you early risers? .... yeah, I didn't think so. But whatabout for climbing? On sunday, in the morning, early like 6:30-7:00 I can go climbing. Till about 11:30. Then I get to go to work. Is anyone up for some early morning rock? Its great. You should all come. later dev edit: I swear there will be no 5.0 "adventure" climbs

It's been a while since I've been on here and it's nice to see that there is a CT climbers thread now too. Just thought I'd put a post up looking for climbers in the NE area of CT. My wife and I typically climb at the Monks near UConn, Pinnacle and some great but low key places in Western MA. Right now I'm down with top roping, late afternoon to early evening at the Monks during the week fits into my schedule. Saturdays all day and Sunday afternoons I'm down with going farther afield. Have a look at my profile for more info, my wife may be able to join us if her schedule permits but right now she's told me to get out and climb anyway I can before the snow flies. I'll search the threat myself for people and if anyone who is interested drop me a line. J.

Went to Wolf Rock on Friday(in the rain) with a partner that goes to UCONN, nice little area there. Short, but really quality routes. It would be a great place to bring beginners. Led up a 5.6 and a 5.2 and we top-roped a 5.5 or so, the rock was kinda wet, so it made the friction moves interesting. All and all a nice little area, I do plan on going back. Lots of great leads for a beginner leader too, which is rare for CT later dev

climbed at Logtown Quarries, about an hour south of cleveland this weekend. It was wet. It also literally smelled like shit. Friction sandstone climbing is not good when wet. Also, the majorty of the routes are 5.10+ which is very difficult when wet. Despite these things had fun and did a few good routes. Free for climbing wednesday if anyone wants to meet up.

Hi J- I'm looking to get back on the rock myself. I haven't climbed all year and just came back from a Sterling Rope all women climbing weekend in N. Conway. I started climbing 5/04 and went about 6-8 times, love Pinnacle and the Gunks, have been to Wolf Rock, want to check out other areas...like Ragged Mt -Southington. I'm pretty much a beginner...I have my own harness, helmet, shoes, chalk bag. I don't have a rope or rack. I have rapelled once and cleaned once...both in the gunks. I'm interested in partnering up with people who would like to climb locally...and anyone who is patient and is more advanced with a bunch of tricks would be great.

Hi- I started climbing in 5/04 and went 6-8 times in 2004. Gunks, Pinnacle, Wolf Rock and Rumney. I range trad top-roping up to a 5.6 or 5.7. I've rapped once, cleaned pro once. I was in N. Conway this past weekend climbing for the first time this year and I NEED to get out on some rock before it gets too cold. Also interested in partners who would like to work out at the Rock Gym in Manchester. Have all the basics...helmet, harness, shoes, chalk bag. Need someone with rope and rack. Interested in checking out some good local climbing and revisiting Gunks, Pinnacle and Wolf Rock.

Hi, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Sandra. Someone asked about Rock gyms. I've been to Stone Age in Manchester (my home turf) but have heard about Prime Climb in Wallingford and just found Ollie's in Mystic. I'm interested in taking the top rope class at Ollies 10/1 for $100. I've climbed Pinnacle, Wolf Rock (UConn), Gunks and Rumney. Just did a weekend at Whitehorse in N. Conway NH. My climbing shoes are mint green. I have neither rope nor rack, only the lowly harness/helmet/chalk bag. I just found out Sterling rope makes a hot pink women's climbing rope...so watch out! Would love to get together with other CT climbers to partner up for some climbing.

Hello, Anyone is interested in climbing Sat or Sun possibly at Ragged or Pinnacle, etc? I have full sport/toproaping gear and partial lead rack. Would like to get on some 10 or 11 tr's (Vanishing point???) or could clean on lead. Not opposed to climbing 8's & 9's either, just want to get out and climb. Easy-going, friendly, and mostly sane. p.s. Sean, you around?

Bolts in CT, that'll be the day. Jut used to listing my gear that way, I guess. It does give a better idea of my climbing background though. I live in SW Montana and climb mostly sport. Oh my god, it's gorgeous out. What the f*! am I doing inside on this dreaded machine. Hope to see some of you out on the rock this weekend.

In reply to: Chris, I'm outta class at 1:45 on Thursday, have you ever been to Rattlesnake? lemme know dev rattlesnake is my favorite spot to climb in the state. the new guidebook doesn't really cover it well at all. (i'm actually okay with that since it keeps traffic from climbers down)

It compleatly ignores porcupine hole, which has some awsome routes on it. It ignores the nautalus section of greenwall which has some of my favorite routes in the state on it, and it doesnt cover most of rattlesnake. the nickles guidbook has 39 routes at porcupine from 5.2-5.11 27 at green wall from 5.2-5.9 it has stuff at will warens den, but i never bother with routes there cuz its a pain in the arse. 59 routes at rattlesnake from 5.3-5.12 the faslo book lists a total of lik 33 routes for all of rattlesnake mountain.

wow, Where is the nautilis section of green wall? Ken Nichols guide probably also says that you can lead on tied off hooks right? I guess I should do some more exploring around that area. thanks for the smack down :) dev
