Two words: Bobbi Bensman.

she doesn't seem to have any problems climbing

But she is the subject of vast amounts of ridicule. I wouldn't recognize her if she walked up to me right now, yet I've heard as many wise cracks about her boobs as I've heard jokes about George W.'s vocabulary.

Yeah, but she went from practically nothing to enormous porn-star boobs, judging from the pictures.

Besides, they don't make fun of her to her face. They can't get close enough.

Jay
That reminds me of the link in here... the rice boob one. Had lots of before and after pics. A great many of these women were built like me (short, slight, and 34A at the most) and most of them went to at least D cups! I am sure they have their reasons but I don't get it, personally. I've never really been truly pleased with my not-quite-A cups (at least aesthetically; functionally, they're fantastic for climbing, running, sleeping on my stomach, tying my shoes, forcing men to consider my personality- ha!), but I've NEVER wanted tits the size of a cantalopue, even for looks. Subtelty is hot, and if I had the income and the willingness to cut down on my activity for a bit, I'd consider some happy little B cups. Cuz also, big implants on narrow, slim chests end up looking wall-eyed and bugged out, especially on gals with any areola to speak of. Honeys end up looking like those creepy tropical fish:

My boobs are quite large, D, DD depending on my weight and that time of the month. I would look a lot thinner if I didn't have them stretchin' out the shirts.

Quite large, but fun to make fun of. :)

climbsomething - I agree with you on the tropical fish ;P If anything, I think it is good to go for the proportional look.

maculated - Tthose *are* pretty big, but you are thin as well! You look great!

According to her own words she went from AA to C-cups, which in my opinion is nowhere close to "enormous porn-star boobs". But I haven't seen them for myself, maybe you have?

I've only seen her pictures in a guidebook. Didn't look like no C-cups to me. Besides, if they were really only C-cups would she really have attracted the publicity that she did?

Jay

I don't know if I've seen any pictures at all, so I'm not in a position to argue with you there. Just wanted to relay what was said in the interview.

Happy climbing! :)

Hospital: Shrapnel from rocket lodged in implants, sparing Israeli woman
Reuters

Updated: 7:11 p.m. ET Aug 15, 2006
JERUSALEM - An Israeli woman's breast implants saved her life when she was wounded in a Hezbollah rocket attack during Israel's war with the Lebanese group, a hospital spokesman said Tuesday.

Doctors found shrapnel embedded in the silicone implants, just inches from the 24-year-old’s heart.

"She was saved from death," said a spokesman for Nahariya Hospital in northern Israel. The woman has been released from hospital.

If muscles have to be cut, depending on which procedure, it will be a long time before you can even use them, let alone build/work them, and they won't be as strong or "flexible." Similar problems arise for athletes that tear muscles... So you can count on the added nuisance of not climbing at all for a while. While regular plastic surgeons most definitely know what they're doing- you need to go to some one who works with athletes before making a final decision. I have a girl friend who was a gymnast in college, and she got her implants during that time. She regrets it still, and used her pregnancy as reason to have them removed. Its not the same sport, but she had to train like a "mad-man," and was fit, so her circumstance seems fitting...

A friend of mine from Ct got an augmentation when she rowed crew.
She mostly did it to please her husband. After 3 months of recovery she was able to resume her running, crew and also occasionally scrambled.
She said it was easier before and faster at competitions, it addition there were some scaring.
I would highly recommend you go to a board-certified surgeon and ask for referrals from patients who are athletic. Good Luck.

I still have no idea why anybody would put themselves through such a thing.
As a guy, I find anything fake just a turnoff.
Women with make up on look far less attractive in my eyes than any unpainted chick out climbing in dirty old clothes.

Pumping up your boobs will not solve the issues you have inside to want to do this, it will just be displaced to the next problem down the line.

For Fuuucks sake, just learn to be proud of yourself for the individual you are.
And if there is pressure from a partner to do this, just tell him p-ss off, and then go find a real person to love.

This is a whole lot of judgment in such a short little paragraph.

Seriously, dude, stating your opinion is one thing, but thinking you know the inner motivation of someone is a little much.

Everyone contains a little vanity. It's necessary to keep our species alive. Imagine a world where everyone just let themselves go. NO ONE would hook up Cool. Wanting ourselves to look good is necessary for our self-esteem. People shave, wear nice clothes, get their hair done, etc., and no one sees a problem with that. But, you talk about wanting bigger boobs and all of a sudden people feel the need to judge you.

I certainly don't think you should do it to please someone else, however. If you do it, do if for yourself.

First, you are assuming that the only reason a woman would do this is to be appealing to males.

Second, even if the above were 100% true, you are assuming that every male shares your ideals for beauty, and what looks bad to you looks bad to every single guy out there.

Third, every female knows that 90% of the time when the guy thinks that the woman has no make-up on, he is wrong.

I personally wouldn't want to have fake boobs. My reach is short enough already, i don't want to shorten it even more by having two baloons in front of my chest.

But I am only one woman, I don't pretend to speak for half the humankind.

Indeed! There are probably a lot of fake boobs where the woman went for a natural look that fool the groper/oggler too.

I wrote about a friend that got boobies just to give her decollete a little boost in the other thread.

I've had the occasion to see another set too. One of my friends since childhood got an aggressive form of breast cancer at 35. She always had HUGE boobs for her size and showed them off to her advantage. Still, really, really big ones can be a pain, and she chose to downsize to about a C with her replacements.

I think they look really great. The nipples were tattooed on and look pretty real. The process of stretching her skin proved to be way more painful than anything she experienced with the mastectomy.

She's passed the magic 5 year mark, so her chances of relapsing are much less now. Coming that close to loosing her put a whole new spin on this underappreciated part of my body. Any way that someone else wants to love the skin that they are in for the short time that we get to be here, is totally their business.

I'm not interested in implants myself, but I don't want that 100% natural Berkeley look that says to the world (IMO), "Now here's a woman who just doesn't give a shit anymore!" I've died my hair, had major regrets about all of the sun dammage I've inflicted upon myself and am doing what I can to reverse that, I get my toes did, and spent I $70 on the burliest Spanx that they sell so that I can keep a few secrets about what's really happening just below my waistline. I might be the only person on earth that even knows that I've done these things, but I feel a lot better in my own skin when I do them.

I am glad your friend is doing well. Yes, this is exactly what I was thinking about, too.

My co-worker had breast cancer at a really young age. She was 28yo. She had one-sided mastectomy, followed by breast reconstruction. You can NOT tell that one side is "real" and the other "fake".

I have a friend who is climbing as hard/harder than before her augmentation a couple years ago. She opted for a B cup, placed above the chest muscles, even though most doctors recommended a C (at least) and placed below the muscle.Another reason to talk to a Dr.who has worked with athletes.

A few Dr.s are doing a newer procedure that uses fat grafts in place of implants - I'm hoping that will have been refined/improved by time I'm ready to do it. Just sounds perfect- take fat from the belly and move it to the chest!

For those questioning the desire to get augmentation, I think the last thread (clausti posted a link) had some great insight into how breast size goes beyond just looks, since it is so tied to feelings of womanhood and femininity.
