Come on Gabe, really. You're already famous. I mean, who hasn't seen and loved Cliffhanger.

P.S. - Where did you get that bolt gun at? Wink

Right there Gabe. Right there. That's as good as it gets. Oh, Ps... I've also been climbing for about that long (plus about a year) and I've been climbing at the 5.10/5.11 level indoors and outdoors for a while now. No one clambers to give me free stuff... Hope you don't take the flame job too bad, but I speak fluent street and from my translation of your original post, sounds like you said "Please flame me, I'm new here and would like to be initiated."

Have fun in the gym, but try things outside when winter is over. It's much more fun and very different.

hosh.

haha i enjoyed this post. after three years of climbing and only being able to climb a 10 in a gym your chances of getting sponsored are about as good as they r for winning the lottery.

Seriously,

I got a 5.10 outside my first time at a crag, and 5.11 after my third.Only been 6 times. Now I am kinda stuck, but thats another story. I am not trying to discourage you, but the fact is that there are thousands out there better than both you and me combined that would be better canidates for sponsership. Dream Big

I thought climbers were supposed to be strong both physically and emotionally but I am disappointed to see a Gym Rat is begging like a dog asking for food. If I was a doorman working in one of these companies, I would not even let you park in the parking lot. Get youíre a** back on that rock start climbing you rat.

This is what I like to see. The warm, welcoming side of RC.com...makes me all tingly inside.

So the kid's gotten some encouragement and fels good about himself... whyinthehell do guys need to piss on his parade. Naive question? Yes. Worthy of a flame? Sure. Needs two pages of abuse? Only if you think picking on blind, three-legged dogs is hilarious.

The truth is that TR'n 5.11 ain't so bad (especially if you're young) but, as in all things, you have to be in the top .5 percentile to get any sort of recognition and there are kids out there pushing the 5.14s...keep working

As a friend of mine once said of our group of climbers:
"What I find interesting is that we come from such diverse backgrounds, but we're all the same kind of asshole."

Oh, read that with a british accent.

Gabe,

You are my hero. Your listed RC.com climbs to date (K2's Abruzzi, Eiger's N. Face) are the paragon of style -- don't downplay your ability in the gym. The action and the drama in your routes are so amazing -- something of a cliffhanger, I'd have to say.

You have such a striking resemblance to Sly Stallone. You get to hang out with big time actors like John Lithgow and Michael Rooker. You've climbed with the big guns -- Wolfgang Gullich and Ron Kauk. You should think about working in Hollywood, it might even result in a trip to the Academy Awards.

I love those action shots in Rocky Mountain National Park -- majestic spires that seem quite reminiscent of Italy's Dolomites. Could you tell me which part of RMNP those were from? I've hiked all over RMNP and only seem to find granite.

That bolt gun of yours is totally cool. I use a Bosch, which seems so slow and heavy by comparison. And your clothing seems so resistant to cold temperatures and freezing water -- where did you get them?

Finally, I find it challenging to believe that you really need to be sponsored for such trivial items like shoes or chalk bags. Rumor has it that you have suitcases of money to burn, and that it costs a fortune to heat your place.

Anyway, best of wishes with the climbing career. I hope the road for you isn't too rocky.

Hey, have you guys seen Mr. Walkerís resume? He climbed the Abruzzi ridge barefoot and naked. Now thatís what I call fast and light, pure alpinism. Please show some respect.

You Mr. kricr, can accompany me on my next expedition. Also, Mr. Bent Gate, you can come too, because that is the raddest thing I have ever received. Everyone else, keep on pulling, and someday, maybe you will be able to have a chance to get sponsored like me.

WOW, I onsight 5.11's sport and I am working on 5.12's right now. I can almost climb 5.10 in trad. ALL outside.

This was after 3 years of climbing and I am only getting better. I will most likely not get sponsored and to be honest,

YOU ARE NOT EVEN NEARLY GOOD ENOUGH TO GET SPONSERED.

How old are you? Most strong people with natural ability can send 5.11 outside within the first month or two. 5.11 is were climbing STARTS to get technical. So if you want to get good, get some books and learn about dynamic movements, flagging, drop knees, ect. And start working on crimp strength if you havn't already. If you really wanted to get sponsered you're WAY behind for 3 years of climbing.
