Damn you flujo I didn't get mine today. The mail man drove by my house twice and didn't stop. It made me angry because each time it got my hopes up. Well maybe tomorrow.

Got mine late today. They look and feel top notch. I didn't have the highest hopes for the finish at that price but I was really impressed. I have a bit too much work this week so I am going to have to wait until Saturday for my real opinion.

My tracking number works, got it today. The biners just got picked up by FedEx today in California, so probably another week for me to receive em. Is this where you tried your tracking number? http://www.fedex.com/Tracking?cntry_code=us

Mine finally came today! I'm taking the biners home to compare them to other, mostly higher end, biners on my rack. My first impression; looks like a good biner for the price.

I just got my 10 straight wire-gate carabiners. There seems to be some quality control issue with the drilling being too big, resulting in a lot of play in the wire-gate although not to a point where the gate would miss the latch. My friends have reported squeaking and weak gate action as well.

hanginaround wrote: Mine finally came today! I'm taking the biners home to compare them to other, mostly higher end, biners on my rack. My first impression; looks like a good biner for the price. You are speaking for me as well. I have the "Jimdavis" special brand of wiregate Red Anodized biner. Short version: it's a keeper. Madrock got it right. This is a well designed, well priced and solid product. Long version: it's not perfect. Read on if you're bored, interested or dysfuntional. _____________________________________________________ A bit about me. I'm not only a gear whore, but I could be described as a gear snob too. Gearwhoresnob. I like that. This is something I've been easing into as my kids leave the house and my financial obligations decrease as death approaches. "Daddy gets a new rack of biners" now, so to speak. I was the asswipe, for instance, who bought an entire rack of the Ferrari of carabiners, ie the beautiful red anodized Wild Country Heliums, to replace my awesome Petzl Spirits. There was nothing wrong with the Spirits, great biner. The WC are lighter is all. Like I said: "Gearwhoresnob". Madrock wiregates: These puppies looks like a baby Ferrari. Light as hell too. If you have Petzel Spirits, you are pulling 46-49 gms each up the rock. These Madrock wiregates are 32gms. Petzl lovers claim that their biners has the best feel, and I can't argue that point, I suspect that they do. -But- The Madrock wiregates have the look and lines of a small version of the Helium. Amazingly good strength to weight to price ratio with good specs as well . Stamped on it specs indicate 25kn x 8 x 8 VS the Heliums 24 x 9 x 10 (length kn x sideways kn X Gate open kn ). In terms of sizing, you may be giving up (I'm eyeballing here cause my calipers are at work and I'm not) @ .187 on the length (3/16) and approx .125 (1/8) on the gate opening size. In trade you get a lighter weight. I bought the Heliums because they have one of the highest gate open strengths out there at 10kn. In fact that is higher than the closed strength of the biners I bought when I first started climbing. (Eiger ovals had an 1800lb total strength rating.) The Madrocks are stronger than those Eigers as well at 8kn open strength, but are giving up 2kn to the Helium. The gate open kn is a big issue for me. Maybe if I just lost some weight it wouldn't be. As big of an issue is the keylock recessed nose design of the Helium. It is far superior to every other carabiner out there. If you looks at a Helium sideways right at the gate, what you see is a narrowing of the wiregate, with the business end terminating behind a protective hood. Imagining a swinging fall, wherein the carabiner is scraped sideways with the gate next to the rock and you will immediately realize that the Helium will most likely not have the gate forced open in a fall. Almost every other carabiner out there, excluding the new DMM's, but including the Madrock, will. The Madrock not only has the Helium beat in price and weight, but in my opinion, in gate "feel" as well. The WC design team chose to make the gates stiff. To me, the Madrock has a sweeter, easier feel. Not Petzl good, but pretty damn good fer sure. Fit and finish are spot on as well. In this day of Aliens falling apart, I also love the fact that they test each one before they send it out the door. So my bottom line: if you have the money to burn, look at DMM and Wild Country Heliums. Compare that to the Madrocks and the Black Diamonds Neutrinos. The joy of Madrock is that it is nice to see that spread of price points - 'cause not everybody wants (or is that stupid) to hock their first born child to buy a rack of Heliums. Keep up the good work Madrock.

Mine have a little "play" but not anymore than any of my other wiregates (Omega Pac-5-0 wires and Camp Wiregates). I thought this play was normal to get a wiregate to function without too much tension. No squeaking here...
