Wow, I can't believe how this small group, started with a proposal to drink a few beers on a Wednesday turned into a climbing club that rivals the CMC ;). Some day, I hope to be back in cow-town, climbing ice and drinking beers with you guys again ;). An ongoing knee injury sustained while not climbing has been keeping me away from the climbing game. But it is getting better, so hopefully I'll be back at 'er soon. How fun guys, and it will be nice to get together again some day. -JP

Hope the knee heals fast.

Kevin Doyle at Knuckle Basher! Thursday, February 4, 2010 (IN CALGARY): 7:30 - 9:30PM Join us for an evening of stories and pictures from the early days with Kevin Doyle presented in partnership with the Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership Applied Degree program at Mount Royal University. Kevin Doyle was recently featured in the Banff Mountain festival's Voice of Adventure Series. His long time climbing partner, Barry Blanchard refers to Kevin Doyle as the unknown master of alpinism and the most naturally gifted climber he has ever known. For the Knuckle Basher Kevin is dusting of his slides for a rare look at the heady days of the early '80s in Canadian Alpinism. Location: Mt. Royal University, Jenkins Theatre (room l115) 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW, Calgary, AB. Doors will open at seven-thirty. The show will start at eight. The cost for this event is 10 in advance / $15 at the door.. To buy tickets for this show, click here. If the show is not sold out, tickets will be sold at the door. Get them early though and you can win schwag. Pre-purchased tickets will be available for pick-up at the door on the day of the show. Be sure to print out your PayPal receipt to claim your tickets. For more info on our other shows, click here.
I am helping Kevin Doyle put together a digital version of his slide show and got a look at some of the slides last night. They are from some pretty hard-core climbs, crazy stuff from places all over the world including early repeats of what are now ultra-classics. Definitely worth seeing! PS: If anyone still needs tickets call me, I'll either bring them to the pub or have them for you at the door.

You know your face still pops up in the odd slide-show, so you should get back out here so we don't have to explain who JP is every time.

Exactly like the front, but without an engine, drivers seat, etc., instead there are 2 padded bench seats on either side. It's pretty kewl the way the tractor and the trailer are both *powered*, not through a typical PTO, but the drive-shaft looks like it comes out the back of the rear-end and goes right through the hitch to the trailer. By the writing on them, I assumed they were made in Russia, or some other eastern European country.. but you'd know better then me. I found a photo of the whole unit.
(EDIT: I figured it out.. it's a Swedish made *Hagglunds* BV206, apparently they're amphibious.)

It's a BV206 used by many forces for winter operations. I think Canada has a few hundred of them kicking around. I was in one in the summer and it was rough riding to say the least. I bet they are smooth over snow. I think it's made by the Swiss. binrat

Couldn't get through to anyone last night after my planned partners had to bail (for Good reasons). Finishing a couple more cups of coffee then heading into the Ghost. If anyone wants to try to catch up with me Radio will be on BVX1 and route will be written on the truck.

I look 16 again .... only problem is I feel like I'm in my 40's lately.

Um, ya... I meant to have a + after that 10. ie. 10+ years. But I'm rooting for 20. I'm hoping you're on the same road as Urs, the Hardman climber till you kick it at old age kinda thing.
