As it was for last year, this is just a small weekend gathering for those who are interested with getting together with old friends or meet new prospective partners. This year, it will be on June 19th and the camping will be across the street at Joanne's. Not sure if the camping is still at $7 per night, but will let you know after I talk with her. Last year was a pretty nice, except for a little downpour and the splitting of a tree near the campsite by lightening, but hey, this is New England ... don't like the weather, wait a minute! Pretty sure Ward will not have his new guide out by then, so I am including a link to last years thread that has many climbs posted for those who lack an old guide book. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...d;page=unread#unread Interested?? And the list starts! IN:
Jammer 1st time missing this event ... responsibilities Pharmboy Epoch Jakedatc carabiner96 C4C Losbill
Blueeyedclimber.....You two enjoy
Wonderwoman.....your anniversary!
LiClimbs AntinJ iluvtoplayoutside wanderlustmd (Saturday only) Maybe ... will try: Charley dumbsocrates

Sounds like fun, again, but like the last several years, the timing sucks for me. I will be in Glacier Bay, Alaska on a 91' boat trying to mask my disappointment with ocean kayaking, glacier explorations, and deep sea fishing. I hope you all think kindly on the hardships I will be enduring.

Nice! One of these years we will be able to hook it up! I haven't seen you in years. Enjoy the nice summer days in Alaska. I'm sure you'll be too busy to think of us, but if the temp get hot, we'll probably be thinking of you!

if you really want to.. but if you pull out cordalettes or long slings at anchors be prepared to be laughed at ;) also don't try to clip like 3 things into one bolt... ask Erik (cerikpete) how that works.

Sorry, I'm out this year. Not sure what I'll be doing that exact weekend, but it'll probably be in Colorado or Utah. Have fun, and take lots of pics. I look forward to the trip report(s)! GO

I assume I will have my usual guest room in Rich's mansion of a tent. Any chance of a church supper???? Heck I would step up and do a Catholic grace in Latin for another good meal and excellent company! Unfortunately no Trad Friday this year, at least for me, since I will actually be working. Don't ask!

Don't ask! Is it the same weekend as the motorcycle rally again this year? If so then the church is already comitted to doing something for that. I will see what I can do. I would be into a tard day on friday.

You like slab, eh? Is there trad there? The guide book states moderate bolted routes. "Most of the routes are protected by bolts, all of which were placed on lead." Since it is so close to Whitehorse, about 15 minutes, we could get in more pitches per climb. If it is solitude you are looking for, then I'm up for it.

Well.. Kate 1 hung Sky Pilot a few weeks ago on TR.. you wanna get beat by a GIRL! ;) you still need to finish up Peer Pressure.. i dunno.. look at the guide and figure out some stuff you want to do. my list = Storm troopers 100% Columbian --- to finish up Parking lot wall Mr. Coffee --- ^^^ Kundalini ( this may fail miserably but a friend told me to get on it) Venus on a Half shell (same as above.. not quite as hard) Pump up the Volume - will finish 5.8 crag sport leads (cept the 5.1 POS i'm boycotting) (though if i send that then i'll sack up and bring some gear to do 5.8 Crack) Giant Man Black Mamba.. at least the first pitch Captain Hook

Yep... there isn't a route on my list that i either have already or will fall off of before it gets done. Personally i am pretty sucky at onsighting but have a pretty good knack for working out routes so getting on stuff that i will initially fail on is pretty standard but a necessary step.

If it was bolted on lead that makes it tard. right? I thought the ruckus was all about the clippity? Besides I had a blast last year on lost in the sun or whatever we were on beside it. I looked at Rainbow too as a possibility. I do like slab. I have very good -how do you say-- down pressure! My body type favors slab (or juggy overhangs). Maybe vader this year?

I'm going to inquire about some beta for the 2nd half. i half stood into the roof undercling but wasn't too comfy on my feet in the Solutions.. I also want to know if you clip from there for if you wait until the hueco. Jay you need to wing off Social outcast.. set an overhanging jug haul and do laps and get your endurance up.

Actually after careful consideration, it appears Tiff and I shant be joining y'all. June 19th is our anniversary. Our FIFTH anniversary, and since we cancelled our original plan to go back to Thailand, we need to make it a good one. Now, don't get me wrong....hanging out with you guys is certainly good....how shall I say this......it just doesn't have quite the romantic qualities one would look for in an anniversary getaway (ANd before you ask, Rich, no I won't hold your hand or snuggle with you). Tiff and I will definitely be climbing SOMEWHERE but will be looking for slightly better accommodations than an old retired couple and a donkey can provide. SO, accept my heartfelt apologies, guys, and Maybe we will see you at some point this season. Josh

Actually, that would be alliteration rather than rhyme. It is the name of a way cool scooter though, here in somewhat hopped up form: And if I'm not somewhere else (possible Val di Mello trip in June), count me in.

We will be making a noisy commotion, where a heated controversy may arise as to which climb is better. This could, and probably will, create a disturbance, or commotion if you prefer. Of course, others in the area may get upset by the act of us making a noisy disturbance. Did that help? Edited to include my resource ... http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ruckus

the only loud disturbance is going to be Rich's kids crying in the middle of the night.(and the donkey) Although there will be lots of controversy I am sure. (less now that the anniversary couple will not be there). It is quite possibly the most llow-key ruckus that I have evr experienced.

Yes, it is extremely laid back. It's more like camping in an excluded area with nothing to do but sit around the camp fire swapping stories at the end of a day of climbing.

wow i don't check this site enough! i had a great time up there last year and getting to know all of you, but this year it looks doubtful (for those of you who don't remember me, i was the guy sleeping in the back of his volvo!). I might be driving out west, but we'll see! maybe i can delay my trip long enough to stop up for a day. I'll be out and about in the region a fair amount this summer, so hopefully i'll see some of you! i'll put in my hopes for good weather!

Any advice on some good 5.8-5.11's (my partner is limited in outdoor experience so it would be good to have something for both us us) thanks, andy advice appreciated, and I'll keep checking in on when and where to meet up w/your group, thanks! http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1847547;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;page=unread#unread the thread from last year has a decent list with **'s for the more classic routes. i'll be still up there monday with my Gf if you want to get pointed in a direction. mountain project also has a good route database. if it's open the Calm Post has a guidebook they let folks look at. it's just before the parking lot on the Right side on Buffalo road

You will be happy to find that your climbing has improved when you climb at Rumney. An 11 out west may be a 12 at Rumney! You asked the right person about Rumney. I still think Jake has the guide book tattooed somewhere ...

LOL, that's funny! If there are bolts, I can get to the top of most things, but you are right, some of the stuff in the west is a different "grade" than in the east, but for me there's just a certain type of climbing that I do better at than others; I'm psyched to check it out this weekend and then meet some locals in June! -Alicia

Piper is not going to wait around for josh... he's one bad ass donkey in his prime so he gets what he wants. I don't care what we get on. I have a few ideas for really hard stuff but we'll see. I'd like to try Technosurfing and perhaps Venus on a halfshell. I need to take care of 100% columbian and Mr. Coffee to clear the parking lot wall. they were wet this weekend so i didnt try.

So here's the thing... I'm sitting here trying to pack for my vacation AWAY from climbing, and then I come across THIS thread! I'm leaving CO for MA for two weeks. So let's just say that I can get to Rumney on the 19th--hypothetically speaking, of course--will someone adopt me? I don't want to take my rope, and I would only take some draws, harness, shoes... minimal stuff... can I climb wi'ju, please?

There is room for rent in my tent: whiskey and belays are an accepted form of payment.

No prob! I can share my flask! And re my belaying abilities... I might be a 5.10 climber, but I'm a 5.14 belayer :) I'll PM you once I weigh all the consequences of this decision.

Sure thing ... just bring your harness, shoes and a belay device and I am sure you'll fit in anywhere! Rumney is a vacation from climbing ... it's sport!

C4C -- I am working on "Tard Friday" so somebody else needs to step up and organize it. I will be up Friday PM. Hopefully early enough to get some climbs in. Jammer -- Are we set with headcount arrangements with the camping? Do we need to call ahead or just check in when we get there? Bill

I'll probably come Friday night. Might (might....) only be able to climb Saturday. I forget if cell phones have service at Rumney; do they? I'll be sleeping on the ground or in my car or in Mo's tent if there's space. Bringing a rope and four draws cuz I'm mad poor, yo.

And there you have it! With Jake's and my information, who needs the guide book? It should be really fun to watch everyone trying to figure out which climb is which! LOL Anyway ... attached is a full list of what is in the 2001 guide book in Excel, for those of you who have office.

I might be down for Friday climbing. Just dropped from the sky at Logan. I'd love to bum a ride from Boston. Need to be back by Sat though: I'm flying out Sunday morning.

Thanks for sending this out, good information. Also about the "Rumney Ruckus" event. Unfornutely I can't make it this year. In Utah that weekend, will miss it. Please remove me from the list, thanks! Maybe a Part 2 of "Rumney Ruckus 09" later this summer?

Well, my friends, for the first time, I will not be able to make it either. Unless something happens, I have another responsibility that I must take care of. I am sure that you all will have a great time. I have called Joanne about the rates and she has not returned my call. I left her a message that the weekend of the 19th through the 21st, there would be a group of us there, as last year, and if there were any changes or issues, call and I left her my number. I have not received any call from her, so plan on it being the same as before. It appears that more people are having a hard time getting there this year. Maybe sometime later this year we can just pick a weekend and met there. Be safe and climb on!

not much to run with. Camping is 8 bucks/person as it has been the last 3 years. there is one campsite up in the grass area with the fire pit that i'll try to snag friday. If anyone has some scrap wood for burning (like cut wood. not 2x4's or something) i'll try to bring some but i don't have alot

I will be there Sat afternoon and all day Sunday. Working Sat. morning. Of course, unless the forecast changes, I might not be there at all.

With consideration given to the fact that I'll be bringing my daughter with me, and the fact that the weather is really questionable at this point I am officially bailing on this one. Sucks, since if it were just me I'd be there. However I don't want to make it a potentially miserable experience for the kiddo. Have fun everyone!

In reply to: Yep... looks like a large helping of DooOOOmeD! Jake --- what means this? You can't be implying we aren't going, can you? Geez! It's not like we are not experienced in climbing in the rain! I have my mask and snorkle already packed! Tiff too bad about the weather on the big weekend but rain on the roof can be very romantic, can't it?

We have been flushed. As sure as the tide comes in every 12 hours someone will float a date for later in the season.
