I guess his full name is Willard Mitt. So, Mitt is not short for anything.

Seems reasonable... my only comment would be that you don't really know that they hardly climb, that seems a little unfair. And if you did want to meet more climbing women, it seems like a good place to go. It's a half day, big deal.

This is tru, but the few names on the list that I recognize are of ladies that I have met. I'm not saying that they don't climb, it's just that they don't try as hard as I would like to see when they go out and climb. That's not saying that's what everyone who will be there is like, but it is cause for concern.

I'm also assuming a full day commitment at this point. It's an hour each way to get to this cliff, so even if it's not a ful day even I would like to ge a full day of climbing in.

I might still change me mind, it depends on the amount of stuff I need to get done at home. My cousin finally got back to me last night and told me he won't be in town this weekend, which changes a lot. We'll see.

Where is this climbing event? And what Dark Ages are Ontario in? Head down ass out moderates? Safety Nazis? Anti-permadraw tradiban?

It's about an hour away. I wish it was closer so I could just go for a half day and still get home early enough to spend it with Nathan.

And dark ages isn't really fair maybe, I just get upset with how everyone thinks that the climbing in Ontario is all hunky-dory, when access is a huge fucking mess. There are a lot of little things, but I think mostly it's people attitudes on how they are happy with what they get and how things are if it seems to me that they're getting screwed on the deal.

Went to the gym last night, to fall off of everything. That was expected, of course.

What was UNEXPECTED was that i got PAID-- for setting the boulder problems for the boulder league. Totally unexpected, and very welcome. I've been setting routes for membership for years, but this is the first time I got paid for it, LOL. And we are not talking $25, either! We are talking on the same level, if you consider time involvement, as I got paid for teaching the Med School class this spring!

I think I really like the new rules that the new gym owner plays by. Much better turnover time for routes and boulder problems, and more route-setters, including one guy who sets REALLY STELLAR TR routes in the 5.12 range... Usually we don't get too many of those.

For the first time ever we had 5 route-setters for the boulder league, instead of just one-two people, so everyone had to set just a couple of routes every week, and that meant that you actually had time to make good routes, instead of rushing.

Lots of changes coming to the gym in the next three years. They are going to triple the bouldering area, double the number of topropes, and build a lead wall.

Oh, and the really cool thing is that the gym just donated $1500, split equally to Muir Valley, RRGCC and Team Suck. And planning to do an equivalent donation to NRAC in the fall.

Anyway, woohoo all around.

Dude, that's awesome that you get paid for setting! I don't even get free membership for setting (I get a free membership for dribble, though).

Good luck!

I had mint growing by the patio once. We are talking concrete slab, covered with these outdoor rubbery tiles, can't grow over it or through it, right?

Ha!

It grew in between the concrete slab and the rubber mats, and jumped to the other side of the patio. Once there, it was unstoppable...

Actually, Mittens is coming to the place I teach tomorrow. Apparently it's kind of on the downlow, and he is just going to speak to the business school. Big surprise, I know.

where did "Mittens" come from, anyway?

Not sure, I know I saw it on some blog or another. Pretty sure I didn't come up with it, since it's kind of funny.

yeah, I see it all the time in the comments of NYT articles; no idea the origin.

did you see the RNC took your calling card in an ad to brand Obama as NotFunny?

For the record, the presence and/or wearing of a GoPro is a clear indicator of n00b status.

Is that Think Pink for your first 11? That thing was made for (assuming that there is some sort of intelligent designer).

So I waffled back and forth about going to this crag day today. In the end I decided that I really DID want to go....but I won't be back home for another 4 weekends, won't see Nathan for another 3 weekends, so I decided that I needed to take care of the gardens, which are already getting away from me, and hang out with Nathan.

Planted spinach last week, but it's not popping up yet. Peas are doing well, as is the lettuce. Planting more lettuce* and potatoes today.

*Please note I bought lettuce seedlings because my plants hardly seem very big and then they choose to bolt on me when I plant them from seed.
