On a bad note: lost my freaking ATM card in one of those STUPID (read: really fucking stupid) ATMs that as if you want another transaction instead of just giving you your card back. Fucking A. I did it last year, too, in Bariloche, Argentina. On a good note: Each time Iīve done this, the person who presumably found my card still in the machine didn`t wipe me out. Now awaiting a new card. On a bad note: BOA has an agreement with Scotiabank in Canada, which is one of the major banks in Chile, and I donīt have to pay any fees to withdraw cash (neither foreign transaction or other bank ATM fees). Obviously, thats the card I lost and the one I used cost me CH$2500, which is over US$5 for just the other bank fee. Who knows what the foriegn transaction will be. Had to take money out to pay first monthīs rent.

Settled into new apt this afternoon (kind of, still need to buy some hangers and maybe a small dresser). Have met two of the three roommates. One of them knows climbers, so we'll see. very happy to be out of the hostel.

donald949 wrote: Speaking of which. Anyone getting anything cool for Christmas? The only thing I asked for is a pass to all the parks in my area... saves me $6-10 every time I go hiking, cragging, biking, snowshoeing or just taking my son to the play farm. I reckon the little $115 pass should be worth close to $800 by year end.

I feel like I should watch the movie again... Visually it was awesome, but I must have missed something in the story because I just didn't find it as great as everyone says it is.

Chicken is usually he first thing to give you the runs in a new country. Did it for me in Egypt Germany and the US. Your body will adapt. Could very well have been the chicken I had two days before I noticed I was sick (I kind of felt it the day before, but tossed it off as something else). That's the thing about food poisoning and the like (not that this is food poisoning), people usually associate it with the last thing they ate, but it really started two days before one gets sick. So, I was kind of blaming on the burger I had at the hostel the day I got sick. Burgers in Chile suck (I mean, they're fucking terrible), and the chicken dinner I had the day before that was incredible. But yeah, it was probably the chicken. Still, I weighed myself for the first time since arriving. When I was in Maine just after thanksgiving I weighed about 172. Today, I weighed 73.5 kilos, or 162lbs. Ten pounds in two weeks with only walking as exercise (albiet A LOT of walking) is kind of too much.

donald949 wrote: Speaking of which. Anyone getting anything cool for Christmas? I asked for nothing. No reason to ask for anything if I can't use it (even money). I want to skype with family and that's about it. Apparently X-mas isn't so big to a lot of people down here, so my roommates and I will go to an Indian restaurant a couple of blocks down the road.
