I have a hobby of imagining business ideas, and at one point was thinking about, not a commune(because frankly, I don't like most people enough to have the patience to live in a group setting with them) but more of a hostel setting in which people could barter working at the place for lodging.

Of course I have no money, and such things take money, but that doesn't stop me from having the ideas...

So this idea - a person would have some decent land near a climbing destination. The place would have a bunkhouse type set-up for sleeping, as well as tent/vehicle bivy areas, and perhaps a house with more of a sophisticated B&B scenario.

Also a spa, though not in the commercial sense, but with massage and perhaps some other therapies an outdoors enthusiast might enjoy. And perhaps creative workshops - in playing musical instruments, some crafts, and such.

And a garden - herbs and vegetables. Which would be used for communal dinner prepared by lodgers who were there on a longer term basis, and who had appropriate food service training. Also a veggie stand for the public to purchase from. Perhaps the dining hall would be open for the general public as well.

The place would also have a shuttle service from there to the various climbing destinations and other useful places nearby, to reduce the number of cars going back and forth, if people desired.

Each season, people could apply to come stay there for various lengths of time, and they would form the foundation for the place. They would have free lodging in exchange for a certain level of efforts made on behalf of the place.

Others could come for shorter periods, and perhaps barter some effort for reduced cost in lodging, if available(jobs that would be easy to step into with no training) and others would simply use the place as an interesting community-based place to stay while in the area, but would be paying for whatever services they used(bivy spot/showers/meals/shuttle, etc.).

So - not a commune, but a community centered place.

As for an actual commune for climbers - I don't know of any, but you might search the directory here - http://www.ic.org/ and see if there is anything that you might find appealing.

I met a guy once who would go on about Earthhaven In NC( http://directory.ic.org/...Earthaven_Ecovillage. I don't know anything about the place, but it seemed intriguing, for the type who is intrigued by such things.

As much as I hate to agree with Enima, recent studies have shown that displays of sensitivity similar to those in your post are highly indicative of queerness.

Enigma used to post here years ago and was basically run off the site for being a total psycho. Now she's back--and I have this strange feeling that history may just repeat itself.

Curt

Goody... this might be mildly entertaining.

Come to think of it, she must be awesomely entertaining if you haven't kill-filed her yet.

what's wrong with being gay? why is that an insult? really, homophobia is SO 1997.

As much as I hate to agree with Enima, recent studies have shown that displays of sensitivity similar to those in your post are highly indicative of queerness.

I know its been awhile, but I was climbing and working and super busy. I know you missed me!!!

Camhead now you can find a new guy , everyone accepts you as gay there is nothing wrong with it.

Hey chicky,

Sexual orientation is not a joke, its not an insult, and whoever anyone choses to love is their business. It's not your place to think you're funny making gay jokes.

You totally missed it. I have had many friends male and female that are gay and they are great people.
I lived in New York City for many years and would go to clubs and places the gay guys loved to get women all dressed up and go out on the town and hang out with them. I used to hang out with some of these models and wear these velvet coats and alot of makeup it was so much fun.

Grow the fuck up <-- bolded just for you.

I knew it. You have "fag hag" written all over you.

Go Get a New Boyfriend Wink!!!

If I didn't know any better I'd think that enigma has a crush on Camhead.

Apparently you've never seen him with his shirt off, otherwise you'd be crushin too.

Pffft! Who says I aint'?

Time to break out the babypool and 5 gallon buckets of KY.

This thread is turning into some kind of quest to slay the forum beast that is known as Enigma.

If we piss her off enough, she may dissapear for another few years, leaving the RC kingdom for a period of peace until it returns.

You seem to be suggesting that hippies are the lazy, poor, worthless types that wouldn't even take the time to replace the toilet paper roll, if they had a spare to replace it with. Which they don't, because they have no money. And you can't wipe your ass with patchouli oil.

Heh. I don't want just any toe, there are criteria.

The price is actually up to $1,300 now. All I really want is the first digit of the pinki toe but it has to be someone I know, although I'm willing to extend that to the people on the Knob whom I've had more extensive communication with. You have to do the cutting. I have to see it done. You have to be sober and no anesthesia. You can reattach if you want, I don't care either way.

Thats about it. So far I've had two low bids of $5,000 from personal friends but thats beyond my budget, unfortunately.

...think about this.

Me and my mom went into home depot today to order some blinds, well this somewhat older woman comes up to help us. she says hello and imediatly im thinking wow this ladies voice is annoying! So 20 mins pass by, Im sitting there in my boredome analyzing this woman. This woman with this great haircut, nicely ironed shirt underneath her very bright pink sweater, which was very cute and stylish on her! She had told us how someone had complimented on her age and we proceeded to tell her she looked not even over 50 as she said she was 68! She looked great for her age but i couldnt get over her broken voice, the twiney high pitched voice. so twenty more mins pass by and my mom had finally asked the qeustion

"Are you getting over a bad cold?"
"actually I only have one vocal chord, I had lung cancer in 1977 and they hit me with radiation and it took out one of my vocal chords, im also living with one lung." says the home depot clerk.
"Talk about a survival story, I mean 1977 they didnt know a lot about the condition." Responds my mom.
"yes im very lucky." says bette.

at that moment it occured to me that i shouldnt have been judging this woman, it occured to me that even tho she was lucky to survive that we judge ppl so often, as do I. Im a constant offender in this, becasue as you know im a hairstylist and its hard not to judge someone, even in this world. But I thought that maybe in light of this situation i could learn something and maybe you could too. That sometimes god gives us miracles and soemtimes he doesnt. But just becasue someones voice is annoying doesnt mean you should think, "god i have to listen to this the whole time?" Im going to try and think, "what an interesting voice, what can i learn about such an awkardness?"

I think it's a really important message that can apply to really anyone. Really.
