I thought the same way until I got bored, went out got some webbing and set up a slack line in the back yard....now I'm hooked. Give it a go and see if you still feel the same way.

Why the hell does it matter if slacklining is climbing or not? This website is for climbing and climbing related "activities". If you dont like it dont do it. If you dont like the forum dont look at it. Simple as that.

slackline greatly increases your ability to balance. Climbing deals with balance...are you seeing any connection?

but to be a great climber you dont have to slackline. just cuz someone slacklines doesnt make them an automatic "bad ass" climber. It does help with balance, but you dont need to slackline to be a good climber

Slacklining for me is somthing very zin. I don't know a better way to get into a climbing mode than when your feet are only supported by a strand of 1" webbing. Do you aid climb? I aid climb with my feet only supported by a strand of 1" webbing. If you have trouble "top stepping" my advice is to slackline! Damn the frowners!

Slacklining - there's no better addiction in the world. Well ok, maybe there are better ones but that is no the point. How else do you get in the zone when you are not climbing without slacklining. Hey, not all of us can climb as much as we want.

Hey w6jxm, To get even more off the subject, don't you think slackline does wonders for your telemark skiing as well? I've notice that my tele-turns feel more solid after some juicy line riding the day before. To get back on the subject, I remember Yosemite's camp four outdoor climbing gym had a slack chain that we used to walk on back in the 80's before we started walking slackline...is the chain still there?

That's MY boy!!! Haa haa ha!! Dean, Chongo, Cedar and I.... taught my son to walk a 20 foot line when he was 8 years old. I hear you rrradam.... but some of these guys don't know what a troll is. Slacklining is a personal pursuit. Yeah, it doesn't have anything to do with climbing..... other than, you use climbing gear to be active in this growing sport. It's all about, FUN. Umm. Yeah, there's a few chains around the Valley that people still walk..... but it's frowned upon by the authorities. Cheers, Ammon

I am a slackliner for life. It improves my balance and concentration like no other. I set up a forty foot long, six foot high line in mexico and walked it back and forth as my friend threw firecrackers at me. If I can keep my balance during that, what else is possible....?

Does it really matter if its related to climbing? Its just a fun thing to do on rest days, or any day for that matter.

Ok, so i cant be a "bad ass" climber if i dont slackline. so lets say one of you "bad ass" climbers who slackline are at the crag, and i outclimb you (not to say i would, but im just trying to make a point), does that still make you the better "bad ass" climber? slacklining is super rad, dont get me wrong, but i dont think that you have to slackline to be a "bad ass" climber

slacklining may not be climbing, but it was developed by climbers. it helps your balance tons. it teaches you to relax and not be tense, and it is a hell of a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

Slack lining and climbing are two different things, yet they both share some of the disciplines, like balance, focus, body tension and others. In order to get good at doing either, you must do it often. So you don't have to slack line to climb hard, but climbing hard doesn't mean you slack line either. I slack line myself, I do it for fun when I'm done climbing or on my rest days. I don't know if it helps my climbing, but is just fun, that's all.

I find slack lining harder than climbing - probably an indication of which I spend more of my time on, but I'd like to get better at it and I presume that will make my climbing better too. I got some good tips froma circis friend of mine recently which i have to go and put into use. "Slacklining" sounds so laid back and relaxed, as opposed to the incredibly scary sounding "Tight Rope Walking" but it's actually more difficult - yeah?

Yes, slacklining isn't climbing. If they were the same thing, they would have the same name. However, they have two completely different names, and, not being synonyms, those names denote different things. Hope this helps. ~jake

I tried the slackline at Miguel's a few weeks back - it intrigued me while I was waiting in line for a shower. Much harder than I expected and it's addicting!

I have a hell of time taking rest days from climbing. I climb for fun not to compete or anything so I have a hard time stickin to anytime of day on day off routine. I feel like climbing so I do it whenever I want. Slacklining is just as much fun as climbing, so now I have a reason to take rest days. It goes miles for the focus needed on hard or sketchy routes, and it improves footwork and balance. I'd say the forum is in the right spot, wouldn't you?
