Managed to get out for the first time here in Chile (blog post is up, see below). Had a great time, and I really think I've managed to meet up with some good people, too. There are a few different crowds down here. Most people only clip bolts, but the folks I've met seek out the traditional areas and are trying to develop new crags. The great thing is that only a few of the smaller group I've settled into climb hard, so most are at my level skill-wise. I'm really excited for this season to get going. Chile in general has been both good and a struggle at the same time. I start Spanish classes next week, so that should help with the struggle. The writing has been great, and I've been getting a lot of reading done, too. Bill, haven't broken out your books yet, but that's a matter of circumstance: my roommates bought me a book for x-mas and lent me a bunch of their own books I hadn't read yet and it would have been rude of me to not get through those first. The People of Paper is next, however. I hope everyone had a good holiday season. I can't wait to see you all next spring. Greg

Hey Greg -- Enjoyed the write-up of your outing in Chile. Well done. The mention of the collectivos brought back long forgotten memories of my surf bum days; way, way, way long ago. In Puerto Rico collectivos are called publico cars. Twenty-five cents would get us the three miles from our beach front shack to Rincon. There on the square were three great bars. One with an amazing selection of American music; complete set of of Jefferson Airplane albums, yeah I know I'm dating myself; in the juke box and any number of very lovely Rincon ladies. The owner's daughter drove a Mustang convertible. Of course, one had to tread carefully due to the any number of boy friends hanging around outside! No sunblock was needed on Saturday Farley. We all agreed we would have traded 4 or 5 degrees of temperature for consistent sun on the rock. Nevertheless a good, very enjoyable time was had by all. Enjoy The Paper People. It is one of the most creative, original things I have ever read. Hope you time in Chile is very productive and very enjoyable. --- Bill

thanks Bill! Haven't actually made it to the beach since i've been here (did last year for a few days in two different spots). Spanish lessons start soon, so maybe there will be a cool bar for me to find, too.

What does it feel like to be the most beautiful girl in this room? 3. Are you lost? Because heaven's a long way from here. 4. Hello, I'm a thief, and I'm here to steal your heart. 5. Hey I just realized this, but you look alot like my next girlfriend. You're welcome Josh

oh you're funny. just because you and your friends think the worst of people doesn't mean you're right. but you'll all sit around and think of evil and inappropriate ways to make me look bad nonetheless, anyway. fire away.

Hey Jason --- Denver's gain is our loss. Best of luck out there! Hey to Jenny for me. Greg --- Belated Robert Burns Birthday greetings. Hope you did it up Chile style down there. Read your recent TR of climbing with godfather. Bit envious. Weather has not been cooperating up here. I can't even get Coldweather Kevin out! Todd you lurker --- Saw Jay's recent TR of the outing with you and Val. You guys are hardcore! The heck with the climbing, I would have curled up in a ball and started crying on the approach! Good job guys! (Tried to leave a comment on the blog but it didn't seem to stick.) Bill

I'm sure this time will be a nice day. I have yet set a time for the Daks. I need to contact Todd to see what time of year is the best. I imagine their bug season is like ours, but this is his back yard and he knows best. Talk with you soon. Alan
