I absolutely can't believe that I first signed up here over 8 (12!) years ago. March '03. The site has come a long way in it's various permutations, hasn't it? I haven't been on much in the last couple years since I hurt my shoulders, but I still see some old school names around. If you've been here longer than 8 years, stand proud and post up!

You should also check out Jed Brown. He's more of a computational physicist, but it strikes me that he'd be the kind of prof who would understand if you jagged off to climb. What with the Piolet D'Or hanging on his wall and all. One of his partners on that climb was Bruce Normand, another physicist, but his CV seems to imply that he's a condensed matter experimentalist. I was talking to my computational physics professor about climbing (he wants me to take his kids climbing) and Bruce came up, since the two had met at a conference.

I've got dingleberries older than this POS site. From what I can tell it's the same 6 commies that have been posting to each other in order to avoid climbing for many years now. Just signing in to this site makes me want to deny I ever climbed. The only thing more pathetic than this site is the local gymrat shirtless steroid sucking posers who slink away when my wife sends their project without feet.

Personally, I'd love nothing other than turning this thread into a religious debate, but most of you already know you're going to hell.

The same one I went to in the 70's as a kid. I was looking for a specific style of deck shoe... When I described the shoe, to the 17 year old kid working there, he said in total Spicoli stoner voice, "Wow, dude... Those are like 6 years ago... Those are way old school." I said, "Huh? Old School? I used to buy the original Vans here, the ones that came in only Blue or Red, and back then, we could buy one Blue and one Red if we wanted." He said "Whoa dude... Your fvckin' old man!"

This is my original account, which I finally stumbled across just recently. Most of the posts seem to have been deleted, probably due to inactivity. There were a good number of them. I was very active for a couple years, then I got tired of the infighting and BS and left for a long time. When I came back, I couldn't find my account, so I had to make a new one. (Vegasclimber10) When I came back, it didn't take long to figure out that most of the crap that caused me to leave was even more so, so I mostly just lurk. It's better that way.

Holy crap... been registered to this site for over 10 years. wow, a lot has happened in that time, and oddly enough I can thank this stupid website for a bunch of that. Met two of my best friends and my wife through this site, not to mention a bunch of other friends and acquaintances. Most of which i'm still in touch with, many i'm not. This site and the people on it were instrumental in getting my first bigwall project off the ground, something that i consider a life altering event, not to mention contributing heavily to a bunch of other trips. I'll admit though... the appeal of climbing as a web forum interest has kind of died off. I just can't think of anything climbing related worth posting about, and maybe i'm finally grown up enough that i don't need to post rad climbing related photos or other spray in order to feel validated. I spend most of my forum time over on pirate4x4.com, and lately i've been logging back into reefcentral.com for a bit. join date at that site is 12/05/2000!! from a topical perspective, building a hot rod antique 4x4 just simply has a lot more technical aspects worthy of engaging forum discussion, i can say the same about saltwater aquariums. climbing, kind of like my other outdoor sports (downhill mountain biking and skiing), appears to work better with a more facebook like interface. "dude, killer pow day at mary jane", my friends 'like' it, but it wouldn't make much of a thread.

I burned out on climbing forums a few years ago, and haven't been on here in two or three years, but this thread made me smile. Looks like it's coming up on ten years for me later this year. (Feel guilty though for the folks who sent me messages about climbing in Japan after I stopped visiting, and who never got answers. Ah well.)

Don't know why, but came onto this site for the first time in a few years. Like others, flushed out several years ago from rc.com. Quit climbing for a few years: dogs, fatherhood, getting run over by a car will have that effect on you. Back to bouldering, which is killing my shoulders (I'm old, get off my lawn!). Always considered myself lucky to have been infected by the climbing virus. Edit: Oh, and registered 12 years ago, bitches!

Apparently I have been around for more than 8 years. I still remember my first 'job' where I managed to rack up something like 3000 posts in 3 months. Good times. At least I'm climbing again now! Barely read rc.com as, aside from the forums (some of them if you look hard) the content here sucks. Hope everybody else is doing well!

Woah. First time I've logged in for a long while, jumped straight to campground to see what's going on, and here's this thread sitting right up top. Weirdness. Anyway, I banged up my head about 18 months ago and wasn't doing anything but getting fat. I started losing weight and seriously jonesing for a climb recently. Humph, I guess I passed 10 years while I wasn't paying attention. Man, I'm old.

joined a long time ago, but never visit anymore. well, almost. I play tennis now, competitively. Rekindled the love for the game I had when I was in my youth. Nice rack for sale. Decided that finding people I could stand to be tied to for hours and days at a time was just not that easy anymore. Plus, too much good beer to sample in Asheville anyhow. Saw Mojorisin recently. He is doing well. He likes the beer too.

Feels like I've gone back to my high school to find the place abandoned, windows smashed, parking lot overgrown. The place smells a bit moldy and it looks like some vagrants lived in the cafeteria for a while but moved on once the leftover canned tomato paste ran out. Yet the graffiti that I wrote on the wall a lifetime ago is still here. Hello all, wherever you are. I wish you well.

I actually still have the forums as one of my home page tabs in my browser. I probably produce 50% of the daily traffic here just by starting my computer each morning. PS, kinda interesting (read, "sad") to see how many of us who registered back in the hayday of RC.com (2000-2004) are still lurking about...

on "02/14/03", I wrote/posted - "my rope has arrived. I know how this weekend is going to be spent. Practicing knots, finding a tree to experiment on, etc. etc." That would be fourteen and half years ago to the date... I was a mere forty three years of age, young, naive and exploit free and on my way to potential "post whoredom".
