I'll bet you're not as happy as obummer is that voter fraud exists.
Or hurricane sandy. Or voter suppression. Or the increase of minorities. Or whatever FauxNews talking point is on the screen right now.

Republican definition of voter fraud = any election they happen to lose.

Curt

Because they just cannot bear the thought that the majority (rightly) think they are NOT the party that should lead the US into the 21st century. The 19th maybe, but not the 21st.

It's a Good OLD Party, what do you expect?

As a side note, I still remember my disbelief when I finally learned what GOP stands for. Really, who thought that was a great name for a party? No wonder they always go by abbreviation, and not the full name.

Actually, it stands for GRAND Old Party. You know, like the Grand Ol'Opry!

Though, actually, I take issue with "Old." The GOP's current positions of small government for domestic fiscal matters, and big government for social and military matters, is actually NEWER than any strain of the Democratic Party. The GOP had a major realignment in 1920 and in 1980 (and probably will have another one in the next couple years). The Democrats have had no similar realignment since the New Deal. In this sense, the Dems are thus the conservative party.

Gallant, Grand or Good, I don't care. Tongue It is still weird that anyone would want to have that name for a party.

Old and Grande Party...

The "Charge of the Hoverounds".

Language and style evolve. Words and constructions that were enormously popular in current use 50 years ago may seem a bit strange to us today. The name has an even longer history.

Perhaps it's a reflection of the fact that the GOP doesn't seem to have brought itself into the 21st century on some issues?
