So it seems like every New Year someone posts about how many days they got out the previous year. So i thought i'd put up a thread to see how we're doing at the almost halfway point. In order to try and motivate ourselves to get out more in the second half of the year.
so heres my tally so far:

30 days of climbing (this includes everything from bouldering plastic to multipitching trad and sport)

I've also managed a fair bit of Yoga and slacklining. And i had to take a little over a month off for a broken toe.

I'm hoping to hit 100 days by the end of the year. So i have some serious catching up to do.

Not sure of the actual count but this has been a good year. This weekend will be the 11th or 12th in a row that I've climbed outside. Just got back from an eight day trip to CO last weekend. Plenty of gym sessions mixed in.

Don't think I've been this fit/strong in a long time. If ever.

I've been terrible with a climbing journal this year, but considering it's mid-June and I've been on the rock outside since April I would guess getting close to 20 days on the rock? Including indoor climbing I have a lot more. And then there are still 20-25 days of ice climbing on top of that.

Typically I get ~130 days of climbing in a year, with ~90 days outside. This year the number of days outside should be about the same, but I don't have an indoor wall to play on anymore so it'll be mostly hang boarding for me.

Outdoors this year has been pathetic so far; I think a total of 5 days. I did take a month off due to injury and I'm also getting ready to move and just bought a house - doesn't help at all.

Indoors about 50 days.

34 days outside so far, counting from January 1st.

mostly due to longer climbing trips over winter break and spring break.

Hm... I don't have a careful record, since I don't log all my climbing, and I really don't track gym days.

I know I've been outside climbing on rock at least 24 days since the start of the year. (12 days of that was an early March trip to El Potrero Chico.)

Indoors, I generally get out at least once a week, often twice a week, occasionally during the winter leading up to the EPC trip it was 3/week. I averaged at least 1.5/week, so that's another 39 or so indoor sessions.

I am intrigued by the 2 star rating on this post. Do you think they just made a mistake or is this a sign that you are slowly redeeming yourself in the eyes of your 1 star stalker?

The arbitrary post ratings are one of my favorite things about this place! It's like Facebook meets Amazon.com

4 or 5 days outside. Couple days inside. Pretty week.
Wuz pushing for this weekend or next, but recovering from strained back muscle.
So the start of summer is not off to a great start.

I would go for "finger slipped on a small screen/keyboard" explanation.

Redemption is highly unlikely.

Don't give up hope just yet. I've been getting a lot of 5 star ratings lately. If I can turn things around and become a valued member of the community, anyone can!

Way to rub it in Ed!

5 of my days were in Potrero this year and they were 5 of the best so far.

Hopefully this thread is getting people motivated to finish the year strong. There are some amazing numbers already.

Counting indoor climbing is like counting jerking off when asked how many times you have been laid this year.

Since January 1st.
6 Ice (weak season, working too much)
10 Ski (ditto, who works?)
1 Alpine (seasons just starting, maybe if it ever dries out)
13 Rock (so much rain in the Bow Valley) However, I have a plan to climb 4-6 days a week . . . now if the weather would co-operate! Hopefully climbing the next 4 days strait.

And who counts gym? Probably 20-30 days????

1 day in the adirondacks, 1 day around here (if you want to count me losing my shit and not being able to go more than 8ft on a 5.6)... 3 sessions at the gym here and one in France.

Pretty damn lame, since the kid threw me this curve ball, I've taken to fearing most things: bouldering, lead climbing, being outside after dark, driving, gas stoves, bbqs, campfires, raccoons... The list goes on.

Last trip to the gym started and ended with a panic attack. Don't know when the next one will be Unsure

ok.

- No ice. First too warm, then too cold, then too warm, (shitty season for ice...)
- Skitouring: 1 day
- Cross country: Did not count, probably more than 10 outings.
- Mountaineering: 1 day
- Hiking: 7 days
- Rockclimbing: 1 Week Buoux, gym (1.5/week average), 1 day bouldering near kandersteg, and about 4 more outings

not too bad, still not enough...

15 days outside at 8 different crags/areas. (Multiple walls at one area counted as one crag.)

Probably the same indoors, but that doesn't really count, does it? Inside is training. Outside is climbing.

BTW - In my 15 days, I have 29 new sends, ranging from 5.6 to 2 @ 5.11b (my toughest).

Not as many as I've wanted but the days I've gotten out have been quality. I haven't kept track of indoor but I have a good guess.

Outdoor: 11
Indoor: 35-45

We leave for Thailand on Friday and will climb for 2 weeks there. Part of all the indoor has been training for that.

I haven' counted days but have road tripped to City of Rocks, Red Rocks and Yosemite so far. In fact, the Dr told me to stop climbing so my shoulder could heal early this year. I did for a bit, then ramped up again slowly. In Yosemite it went bad, so I have finally taken his advice again. It didn't screw up till after we done 25 pitches one day, (Royal Arches/Crest jewel link up) so that was something to appreciate.

48 days outside, 55 inside. An 8 day trip to Red Rocks, the end of my marriage, and a six week suspension from work have all helped me get my outdoor total way up. More this year so far than all of last. The goal was 75 outside, might hit 100.

Been outside bouldering around 60 sessions so far this year (and FA'ed around 35 new routes in that time) and about 20 deep water solo sessions too. No days on a rope or in a gym...thank god!

The last time I got outside was April of 2005. It was a marvelous day at Seneca, WV. I'm not sure I technically qualify as a climber any more. Fucking kids and work have really put a damper on things. My five year old is showing a lot of promise in the gym to one day be my new rope gun, however.

All these days on the rock, you could keep track with a handy little logbook. http://tiny.cc/ma79fw

Track the route, gear and performance all in one place. FUn to look back on over the years.

I use a spreadsheet. This is the first year I am keeping a detailed account of every climb.

Josh

Ditto on the spreadsheet. Works really well.

MP ticklist with note on Lead, Follow, TR, etc. Can download to a spreadsheet for backup also. I've had a couple climbs unlisted, though, and not counted. Still quick and easy for me, though.

Yeah I like the MP database too. For me the advantage of keeping track on a seperate spreadsheet is that I can have different tabs for different things. So in addition to a log of my climbs I have a daily journal, my checkbook balance, a checklist for packing for trips, and a few other little tidbits from my life. If i wasn't a total excel nerd it'd probably be much more convenient to just stick to mountain project.

Being obsessive compulsive, I have waited till June 30 to post. 28 days outside so faróall in the Front Range. Two planned trips didnít materialize. I seldom climb in gymsómaybe 5 days at most since January. Usually if Iím not climbing outside, Iíll do a weight lifting workout. I have a fine 425 sq. ft. weight-room at home. All free weights (no machines), a power cage, a climbing pegboard, and a hangboard. At my age (81), I find that I need to lift weights every week or so to maintain the sturdiness necessary for climbing. Besides which, I enjoy lifting more than climbing indoors, and avoid the half-hour to one hour drive to get to a climbing gym.

Since 1985, I have kept my climbs on database program, currently Microsoft Access. This provides more flexibility than a spread sheet and better searching capability when I want to look back at things. And it is fun to do that. Also, on a public listing, one canít include acerbic comments about partners and even oneself concerning the dayís events.

Cheers,

Rob.calm

well the year ended and I was well shy of that 100 day target. I think the final total was around 65.
Highlights included an 11d when i was in awful shape.
taking a friend up her first multipitch.
climbing past an active angry rookery.
Potrero Chico!
and training at home to the sweet coos of my new baby girl.

So how did everyone else fair? and any targets for 2013?

Sounds like your wife doesn't climb with you ?

Babies are easy to take climbing but our toddler is now a real challenge.

by todays responses I'm guessing I didn't make it very clear that this was meant to be a followup on my 6 month check in for 2012. So I guess I was more wondering how did people finish off 2012. Especially those that had replied 6 months ago.

however.....

way to go for those of you killing it in 2013 so far!!!

We are back in the Embrum (haute Alps France) since the day before NY and so far its been indoor gym climbing. Lots of snow but lots of thaw :(
Next week we have this http://www.thebmc.co.uk/the-2013-ecrins-ice-climbing-meet-is-open-to-all in our neighboring town but at the rate of the thaw, I think they are going to be bulldozing up towards the glacier.

Set out from WV May 9, 2012, after about three weeks of climbing, new routing, trailbuilding and camping just over the hill from Seneca Rocks.

Drove from Ohio to Colorado Springs in 72 hours in an S10 loaded with everything we own in the world.

Climbed in The Garden, at Turkey and Table Rocks (one day each), spent two weeks in 11 Mile Canyon, got in two days on rock in Buena Vista and spent another month, minimum three days a week, exploring the Canyon Lakes Wilderness and taking runs down to Boulder Canyon.

Currently living as a site steward for the NF in AZ, with literally hundreds of untouched lines waiting just over the hill in the canyons and gulches surrounding Canyon, Saguaro and Apache Lakes.

Climbed and bivvied in North Devil's Canyon, with freezing temps and high winds, built trail and put up 2 new lines on hooks over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Headed back to finish the one the drill died on this week.

At present, we have been living out of a truck for the last ten months, and have climbed at least one week out of each of those months, usually more.

Not bad for a couple of geezers in their 50s (one with Multiple Sclerosis), living on less than $1,000 per month, eh?
