Think you got a pay raise this year? Think again.

Like normal, I got a pay raise starting Jan 1 to account for increased inflation. However, this year is a bit different because the feds also increased the FICA tax rate by 2%, and the general fund tax rate. When I account for the tax rate increase and inflation, I actually took a 4% pay cut. There is nothing like starting the new year to learn that I got a pay raise, and then learning that 200% of the raise is going straight to Uncle Sam. Fucking awesome. FrownFrownFrown At least now I have a valid argument as to why I should be able to leave work 4% earlier.

You should stop right there.... Not everyone gets those raises "like normal".

However, everyone did get the tax raise. In fact, some of our raised taxes are going toward paying USdouchebag's pay raise. So, STFU!

I'm sorry, would you like me to mail you a box of Kleenex so you can sob in your mother's arms? If you have a problem with it, bring it up with your boss. Everyone should get an annual raise to match inflation. But if you prefer, come take my place and get put on a waiting list to get shipped off to Afghanistan so some of the locals can use you as target practice. I would love to see how you would fair up in that situation. Do not downplay the hard work and dedication of US military's members. It is because of duckebags like me that you are free to talk shit. Otherwise you would be sucking Bin Laden's dick or, more likely, dead as Laden would have it.

Bullshit. It's called a free market economy. If you're not in demand typically you won't get a raise.

As for you're being deployed . . . . when was the last time you shipped out? I ask because you seem to have a great deal of time to post here.

In comparison I have a brother in law who's a Marine and since 2005 has done two tours in Iraq (nine months each) and is on his second year long deployment in Afghanistan. He can typically e-mail around five people couple times a week when deployed.

Edited to add bold.

Clueless much? Maybe everyone SHOULD, but not everyone does. (bolded part)

I have never once in my life have received "automatic" pay increase indexed for inflation, like you do. All my pay increases have been merit-based, and not automatic anything.

And have you heard of federal employees getting a pay freeze? Federal employees means a lot more than people realize, not only direct employees that work for federal government, but anyone indirectly related to public money. For example, a lot of academic institutions, even private academic institutions, had pay freezes in the past 3 years, because NIH was on pay freeze, and part of the grant money awarded to researchers that work at various institutions goes to the institution to pay for infrastructure. That money is frozen (or even cut, in many instances) means no pay increases for secretaries, janitors, and other support personnel. Not just research.

As a former U.S. Army Infantry Squad leader, who has spent a long time deployed, all I can say to you is suck it and drive on. You volunteered. I believed you even volunteered a second time after your initial contract was up.

You come here ranting and raving about how great it is to be a Navy six months on six months off. As a member of the armed forces, your primary job takes place in conflict zones. Everything else you do is practice for going into those areas.

First timers are allowed to complain a little, anyone who has reenlisted completely gives up that right when it comes to deployment.

You signed the contract, if you get shipped off, I wish you luck, but it was your choice.

Aren't you a Navy welder? Hardly going to put you in the middle of the fight anyways.

Honestly, I'm pretty amazed at the sheer idiocy that nearly every post by the guy displays, both in climbing and non-climbing forums.

Naw I didn't even see it!

I forgot to un-check the 'Send e-mail notification on reply' box and got a message saying that USnavy had something to say. When I clicked on the link the post from USnavy had been wiped clean.

Anyone know how to permanently unchecked the e-mail notification reply?

No moderators hid or deleted any USnavy posts from this thread. I think you got your E-mail notification twice because he edited one of his posts above.

As to how to permanently uncheck the E-mail notifications. go to your profile, hit "Settings" link (at the top) and under dropdown menu for "Send reply notification checked by default" select NO.

You know, I keep waiting and hoping that eventually he'll pack up and leave after enough of us give him enough beatdowns, sort of like what happened with someone else in Soapbox several years ago. But so far, it appears that USn00b is not even self aware enough for this to be an option.

Why is everyone on this guys ass? Everyone should get a pay raise every year! Merit based or inflation based who cares but everyone should get an increase, it is a shame we don't!

I had my pay frozen two years ago! It sucks and it is not going to get better anytime soon! So my take home pay went down in direct proportion to the increase or reinstatement of suspended tax, which every way you want to say it, they both mean the same damn thing!

This has happened to everyone not just USNavy! Why not bitch with him instead of about him, or you could simply state that your alright with a tax increase. I personally am fine with it as long as it is balanced with spending cuts!! No need to attack a guy because he is bitching about something that is happening to everyone!

Because bitching about the "tax increase" which wipes out his annual pay increase sounds pretty fuckin' hollow when the main reason I only saw 2 pay raises in 10 years is because people like USNavy don't understand the relation between payment and services rendered.

If it wasn't for George W. Bush's heroic and noble tax cuts for the wealthy and USnavy's reenlistment, we would all be forced to perform fellatio on Osama Bin Laden. Just remember that, the next time someone tells you that a progressive income tax is beneficial.

Why is everyone on this guys ass? Everyone should get a pay raise every year! Merit based or inflation based who cares but everyone should get an increase, it is a shame we don't!

That's a market based economy for you. If employers don't have to give you a raise they won't.

Actually in regards to inflation the average U.S. worker hasn't had a pay raise in in 20 years or so.

Could be worse, my pay was frozen at $0.00 for the past five months so quite yer bitchin'

If it wasn't for George W. Bush's heroic and noble tax cuts for the wealthy and USnavy's reenlistment, we would all be forced to perform fellatio on Osama Bin Laden. Just remember that, the next time someone tells you that a progressive income tax is beneficial.

Why everyone SHOULD? What is the free market justification of why everyone should get a pay increase? If I take that attitude, then no one should EVER get fired either! Because it is unfair, right?

This has happened to everyone not just USNavy! Why not bitch with him instead of about him,

Yeah, well, that sucks. And a lot of people are in the same boat.

But USnavy isn't. He is getting an automatic increase every January, "like he should". Yet he is the one complaining that reinstated tax wiped out his increase...

Very understandably, people who didn't get any 'automatic" increase, this year, or maybe for a few years, and who are taking home reduced pay, are not feeling particularly sympathetic to his whine.

I think bitching AT USnavy only started when people pointed out to him that he is in a better position than most, and instead of understanding it, he made the "I am the only thing that protects you from Bin Laden's dick" tirade.

Have to be a little careful with that. Anybody who was working 20 years ago is making way more money now than then, even taking inflation into account.

If you were a carpenter back then and still in the very same job today without any increase in technical skill level or productivity or supervisory skills, you probably haven't gotten a raise. I suspect that there are very few people in that kind of position.

An entry level worker back then made about the same money as an entry level worker now, same with mid-career people, etc. However, a comparison living standards 20 years ago with what we've got now (improvement in goods and services at the same level) might make one think about the situation as a pay raise. YMMV.

The very top-top makes way more due to (probably among other things) increased return to intellectual and social capital. See sports, movies, music, books, star software engineers, fortune 500 CEO's etc.

Gag reflex.

As to why people are all over USnaive, will he's was just recently telling everyone here how he had the greatest job in the with perfect medical coverage. He also went on about how he works only six months out of the year and he had the best job in the world.

As a prior service member, and someone who has lots of friends in Afghanistan who agree, a soldier's job is to go to war. A first timer in the service may not realize what they are getting themselves into. Someone like USNaive who has decided to reenlist knows what the job is.

Not getting a pay raise suck, a lot of American's who had jobs don't.

USnaive aslo has a history fo coming here with a load of !@@#$% as fact that he can't back-up.

If you really have a problem with what the US military pays, you could always defect to the north. Canada has one of the best paid militarized in the world.

Back when I was in, Canada was second only to Australia.

Yes. In spite of much contrary evidence, it does appear that the majority of people here are rational.

Not even remotely close.

Anyway, this is not really about my tax increase and my own net income. This is about the middle class getting shafted the the rich getting pampered.

Here, let's try this: I have some top-tier AAA rated CDOs for sale. I procreated them from high-end borrowers that are guaranteed to pay their debts. There is virtually no chance they wont pay out. Just ask Goldman-Sachs, and Fitch! But just in case you dont believe that CDOs are sound investments, AIG will offer you insurance to cap your losses in the ultra-unlikely chance you will experience any. Trust in my exceptional judgement on these investments as I personally fought for deregulation of money market savings investment limits and derivative restrictions. Dont worry about my partner's 15:1 leverage ratio, we all know what we are doing. Oh, and I also have solid Internet stocks for sale in case anyone is interested. They are also guaranteed to be solid and there is no chance you would loose $5t on them.

Sound familiar?

Go take an economics class little girl.

Nice to see you're back from your time out and have decided to become a better man because of it.
RC.com corrupted me. I can only be a better man on MP.com. Here is an interesting fact: for the first time ever, MP.com actually ranks higher in traffic than RC.com does. I think it is somewhere around 25,000 vs 20,600 unique visits per month. However, summit post PWNs everyone with an outlandish 80,000 UVs per month! And here I thought that website was for rc.com dropouts. I dont supposed this forum has anything to do with the UV shift.

Oh... you all missed it...

"Someone" went on a tirade, calling me names and I didnt have time to save it before the mods took it down. But don't worry, I read it.

Apparently I'm an overnight sensation, since my climbing skills went up from 10a to 15d so quickly. Because my ability to make an argument is directly linked to how hard I climb.

I guess people who have lives away from the crag, like jobs, families, hobbies, etc aren't deserving enough to post up in here. Not even in Scummunity because their grades just aren't up to par to compare opinions with a dick wart who only works part time.

*Mods: Note I haven't actually called any individual any names, you delete this post and it's you assuming that a particular loser user is a dick wart. It's just a generalization, I'm in no way insinuating that the person you are thinking about is a meadow-muffin-eating, self-sodomizing, socially-retarded, herp-crusted piece of trash.

In this thread? Weird. There must be moderating powers higher than mine. I can usually see hidden/recycled posts, and content of the posts deleted by users themselves, but I do not see anything here.

Wow...It sounds like you want Uncle Sam, your employer, to give you free medical, a place to live, teach you a skill, and give you $$$ for nothing in exchange... Yet complain about others doing it, or having to actually DO SOMETHING in exchange for all those benifits.

Sounds like a greedy unappreciative welfare recipient... And of the Republical type... Has hand out, complaining about the current prez and all them browns... Fueled by hyperbole and polemic. Are you related to PTC?

BTW... I was in the NAVY too, and pretty stupid too then concerning much, since I was young... Although not quite as stupid as you and not nearly as self-centered.

Tee hee... If I were you I'd be more concered about a free trip to the DPRK than to a landlocked country like Afghanistan, Navy Boy.

Maybe you could suck Kim Jong Un's dick :)

FrownFrownFrown At least now I have a valid argument as to why I should be able to leave work 4% earlier.

I am with you. They should cut our taxes and stop wasting so much money. Guys like us who work our tail off don't get squat, while these lazy government workers get paid way too much.

Also, my boss is telling me I am going to have to get insurance. Wtf? More money coming out of my pocket making somebody else rich.

Not sure if serious.

Part of what makes my wages so shitty is that I pay for my insurance out-of-pocket because I'm not a dickhead who wants strangers to pick up the bill when I go to the hospital. I average less than $800 a month after taxes. If I can afford insurance, you can afford insurance.
