I oversee (for free) a climbing wall in a small Appalachian town recreation center – it’s a multi purpose center and the wall is only open Thursday evenings. The fees for use are $2 for adults and $1 for kids. It’s an area with very low incomes – the center is to help keep kids off the streets and out of trouble. We have harnesses but only a very few pair of climbing shoes that people have donated. We could use climbing shoes in any size and any condition short of in pieces - I can do a little glue work to them. If you have climbing shoes that are too worn out for you, or that your kids have out grown etc – these kids could still get some good out of them. So if you’d like to help some kids learn to climb and do a “Pay it forward” good deed – your help would be appreciated.
Drop me a PM and I’ll give you shipping information - oh yeah - that's the good deed part - you pay the shipping. :)

I've got no shoes but have posted this thread to my ClimbAddict Facebook Page.

If you have any sort of image to represent the climbing wall or organization, and can post it, I will turn it into a graphic illustration and post to Pinterest too. I have over a thousand followers there, and chances would be good the image would get shared quite a bit.

Wow - Thanks! I am pretty bad with the computer stuff but I do have some pictures of the wall I can send you. I only know how to attach them to an email though. If you can PM an email I'll be glad to send you some shots and some information.

Mad Rocks - of course we would accept them! We have kids climbing in socks some nights - brand names don't matter at all.

I received the PayPal donation and everyone got in free last night because of it. I announced what I asked for on the forum and the fantastic response we are getting - you guys got a standing ovation! You'd have to see what this means to this community to truly appreciate it. Thank You all!

Here are some images that Chris emailed me. He says the wall was built by some local climbers who volunteered their efforts, and funded initially from a grant.

Looks like a very nice gym set up!

Looks nicer than some for-profit gyms. Props to the volunteer builders!

Chris,

Big gyms go through shoes on a regular basis and they usually have a bin-full hiding in a closet somewhere.

Contact some the larger gyms in your area/state and see if they would donate some of their older shoes. You probably will have to pay shipping, but that's not too bad a deal for free shoes.

Good luck.
