The photo voting is funny-my highest rated pic(7.5 last check with 25 votes) is a fuzzy shot of a guy you can barely see taken with a crummy disposable camera. On the other hand, some of my pics which I think are excellent(Independence Monument, The Deviant at Eldo) are voted much lower.

I think a lot of the problem is the lack of options in the rating scale. There are a few pics I voted a 3 that I would have given a 4 or 5-just not a 6. Oh well. I think people also tend to give ratings to the kinds of climbing they respect. I give gym climbs very low ratings because they all look the same to me. I give ice, trad, aid, and alpine climbing pictures higher ratings because they interest me more. I rarely vote on sport or bouldering pics because of my built in bias, but if I see a really high quality one I iwll vote it up.

Finally, saltspringer - you take absolutely amazing pictures! Please go climbing at Moab (my favorite area to climb at) and send them in.

I have to agree with that last statement. SaltSpringer, I constantly love you shots. that B&W one of the traverse was my desktop for quite a while.

thanks for the cudos...always encouraging!

I've just updated my climbing site ( http://mywebpage.netscape.com/mslevy68 ) and, if you're interested, I also have a portfolio site of my fine art photography: http://www.saltspring.com/twobrothers

let me know what you think,
Mike

oh, one more thing: I'm planning my annual trip to Jtree in mid-March so anyone interested in having their pic taken, let me know since I'm always looking for new subjects

It would be nice to see a 1-10 rating scale for photos..rrrAdam????.There is too much of a gap there I think. Is this an easy thing to do?

How about a section for climbing only pics and a section for the non climbing pics that it seems everyone enjoys posting too.

In the climbing pics section let the site admins vote only and base the critera on the fact that the photos are front page quality or not, period. Anything voted front page quality by the admins makes the rotation. The other pics just remian in a gallery for all to view.

Regards,
Larry

Krillen,
You're probably right. After I submitted my last shot of my son climbing it dropped like a rock. It is not the best photo in the world-but there is no way it is only a 2.38 either! People are just playing games with these photos and it is probably because they are jealous. It is probably something personal too because I started this whole thread by complaining about my other picture. You are right also about the pictures you took that are rated low. They are great! The people voting have no clue. Keep your pics coming-you too rrradam and saltspringer!

don't worry, I'll keep shooting especially since we're opening up yet another new area here on our little island paradise: prime bouldering & single pitch sport routes in the middle of pristine old growth forest...ahh, the West Coast! And to everyone else: keep submitting those pics! I love seeing shots from other areas and thinking about how to get to them for a visit!
One thing I forgot to mention as well: I think that the section in personal profiles that lists photos submitted by a particular user is great and helps people to see a users body of work more effectively
