hey everyone!
i'm moving to philly in august and wanted to get plugged into the climbing scene. i'm a relatively new climber - i usually climb 5.6-5.7 routes and would love to find people to toprope with.

weekends and evenings will be good for me starting in august.

In response to danyelle - Yeah check the route DB. Theres alot on Moc. Stoney Fork is lesser known and climbed. When I was there last week it was very wet. The rocks drip from the humidity. The bouldering potential there is incredible, but you have to be willing to work(clean) for it. It's nice to be able to camp on top of a rock(Camp Rock) and climb right below and around your campsite. Ill be posting new pics there soon.

I've been climbing at Emmaus but since it's location in the woods is subcluded in the trees, rocks are quite often damp from the humidity.

I haven't been out to Haycock since the spring but from what I have been told by people who were out there recently, it's a jungle out there. Lots of Ivy and brush growing on the important trails. Guess we will have to wait till the fall... :x

Randy,

The "new" climb at bboro is very easy, but I guess a decent warm up. Kind of lame though, as it gives you no pump whatsoever. I'll probably be out there tonight if the weather holds out.

I was out at Gretna on Saturday, and it is very overgrown. Still some accessible boulders though, and plenty of shade. I still don't know where all the good boulders are out there, you'll have to give me a tour sometime.

Also, I'm going down to Seneca and NRP this weekend if anyone wants to meet up and climb Friday or Saturday.

Joel

Anyone have any information on the climbing in Pine Creek Gorge? I think it's located in Wellsboro, PA. There's no info on it in the routes database, other than that the area exists.

I don't know where Wellsboro is, but the 'Pennsylvania Grand Canyon' is referred to as the Pine Creek Gorge I think. I've backpacked past it on the Mid State Trail but I wasn't into climbing then so I don't remember the cliffs...

Yeah, it's the Grand Canyon thing. I don't notice anything about climbing on the website for it, but I've heard there's some exposed cliffs and such, and was wondering if there is any climbing up there to be had.

Theres no quality climbing w/in the canyon itself, and the rangers(Colton Point/Leonard Hamilton SP) dont want any climbing in the gorge. Most of the rock is shale and snake ridden. Go to Blue Run(sport routes) for the best quality or Stoney Fork for the best variety of bouldering.

Hi everyone...anyone home?

Anywho, this weekend I got back to Governer's Stable for the first time since the comp. Got to muck around (quite literally, since I was foolish and wore flipflops for the approach through the mud) on some v3s and 4s which are way harder than i climb regularly.

The heat and humidity were horrid, but I got to work on some fun heel hooking.

Anyone else get out over the long weekend??

K.

B-Boro:

The Streak - wanting to replcae the to D's and Tat on the bail bolt on "The Streak" with quick links and additional chain to equalize the 2 bolt anchor. Any thoughts/objecjtions. Also thinking about placing quick links on the new Metolius Rap hangers - too mnay people already TR'ing off of them, not gooooood! Any opinions on this as well would be appreciated.

Finally I hope to be doing some epoxy repair work (itching to climb and others are developing loose holds)

Cheers,

Crag

Well the shuts to Itching need to be replaced. Quicklinks sound good. Definitely lots of TRing on the shuts there.

The original cold rolled shuts were replaced with Metolious Rap Hangers which by their square design are not great load bearing surfaces for ropes especially on TR.

I was there on sunday, and the shunt to the left on Iching to climb it loose and should be replaced. However, I am not qualified to do so. If any of you are gualified or know someone who is perhaps this maintnence can take place.

I am not sure how involved he is any more but maybe some one should check with Bob Perna as he did much of the work at Birds Boro. Just my two cents.

its not that bad. Really, these are merely "save-our-necks" forecasts, where the heat and humidity could cause a T-storm to pop up at anytime. But definitely not a washout forecast. Just keep your eye on the radar, listen in the morning to see if a front is pushing through or not, and go climb!

OK, so Saturday I'm going to be at Ralph Stover taking an anchor course in the morning. Should be wrapping up around 1:30, but since I'm out there I was thinking I could maybe get some climbs in the later afternoon if it's not raining.

Any takers?
