Juice, Dirk and I had a wonderful day climbing at Roof Rocks at Cooper. I had a lot of trouble getting my hands clean after putting on my herbal bug stuff. Thanks Joe for the water!

We finished up at Two Fingers, another beautiful spot. Some crazy boulderers were working something in the cleft. Two Fingers whipped me bad! Now my hands are all torn up from the crystals, and my shoulders are sore. Great day.

My girlfriend (Betty Belay) and I have been climbing Linn Run a few times a week after work. Weather and rock has been great and the water at flat rock is a nice cool down after hot august climbing. we met a guy on the trail out that said he saw 3 rattlers near the top of Mc'Crackin. I went up to kick around and didnt see anything.

Has anyone climbed the free standing block behind the main wall?

We have all seen a lot of rattlers at Cole's Cove. Freeked us out, more than once.

7 of us went into Lost Crag Sunday. A perfect day, and the rock was in great condition. So many stellar climbs. Well worth a visit now and then.

I got way off course going in. What was I thinking?

Most likely your ridiculous hippy music blasting in your ears kept your focus off the real trail. Did you see the rattler on the way out? he had moved into the ferns a foot or so.

The wyse one and I enjoyed a two day trip to the New wednesday and thursday. A ten fest at a new area (pun?) Cottontop, feast at Gumbo's, camp at Rogers, and finished up at Summersville. So much beauty, and I wonder why I never saw it before.

Hey all, I am from the Uniontown Area. I am new to bouldering and rock climbing. I was in Coopers Rock WV the other day. It seems pretty nice done there. Does anyone know of any specific clubs in this area that meet regularly? I am really looking into learning as much as I can.

I doubt there are any clubs other than the Explorers Club of Pittsburgh, (who have a website).

You are close to White Rocks, and the myriad areas above Connellsville & Dunbar. You need to meet some people. I'll post when we go down there, and maybe we can hook up.

Who are you? Do you have shoes, a harness. Do you know how to belay? This is information people would want to know before taking you out.

Just moved to Bethany, WV (20 miles west of Washington PA) from the Twin Cities (MN). Any beta on the best "local" gym? I guess that would be Pittsburgh?

Amazingly, I often ride my bike through Bethany and have a sandwich at McCormick's. The only gyms I know of are in Pittsburgh. Have any secret cliffs around your way? Other than choss piles, that is...

Mm…Let me know next time you ride through…I’ll tag along on my hybrid. I’m looking to buy a used (cheap= <$500) road bike for Bethany. Any ideas? No rock in Bethany vicinity. Logtown in Lisbon (OH) is closest at 60 miles. Looking to tour WPA climbing areas in the coming weeks.
Cheers, t-f

I live right down the road in West Alexander, PA. Deffinately no secret cliffs around here.Pittsburgh is closest gym. Day trips to connelsville are no big deal. Or if you have a few days just zip on down to the NRG.

Copied from your other thread:

Bring some bikes, park at the public swimming area parking. Head down the bike trail across the bridge and continue for ~4 miles. Schoolhouse and Maple Wall are pretty obvious at that point.

Making a list of the rapids in order will help as they have sign posts marking the rapids (i.e. DH and DR for Double Hydraulic and Dimple Rock respectively). Schoolhouse Wall is named after Schoolhouse Rapid (SR), so it'll be near that post.

It is possible to hike to the wall but its about 45 minutes from the car I believe. I think Tim posted directions in the Western PA climbers thread.

Who climbs there? I stopped by when I was at the Co-op and thought the "top rope section" looked kinda dismal. Is there decent bouldering? Any other beta would be appreciated.

Does it ever stop raining out here?

To answer the last question first - No.

I go to the Climbing Wall. Have only toproped there a couple of times - tend to boulder a lot more. Bouldering is okay - although the route turnover is not that frequent. After a while, I just tend to make up my own problems using existing holds.

Thanks dvs. I suppose it will stop raining when it starts snowing, which feels like it could be any minute. 'In town today, so i'll check out the bouldering at "the wall."
