Like "gremmie" "grommet" comes to climbing from surf-lingo, where "grommet" generally refers to a young surfer who is often disrespectful of his elders. Curt

Is there a negative relationship between amount of Scotch consumed and climbing ability? Is there a unit of Scotch where even Class 1 becomes too difficult? As a current college student and an aspiring bum, the possibility of this effect has been plauging me.

As a climber, you will never experience even one standard UIAA rope test fall in your climbing carreer. Because lead ropes are certified for multiple fall ratings, climbing ropes never break when in use. The only exception to this, which I have recently become aware of, is the breaking of a single climbing rope that was exposed to battery acid. Curt

how do know 42 is the answer to "what is the meaning of life, the universe, etc."? i thought the the question to which 42 is the answer is unknown, but i don't remember if i read all the books, so i may have missed the question. and if that is the question, isn't that a bit of disappointment? so ho-hum. also, which is a better place to spend a few weeks this summer: boulder or phoenix?

Thanks. Here's one for you. You are a contestant on the game show Let's Make a Deal and you are asked to choose between getting what is behind door number 1, door number 2, or door number 3. Behind one of these doors is a new car and behind each of the other two doors is a goat. You then select one of the three doors. After doing so, one door is opened, revealing a goat and you are then asked if you want to change your door selection. What should you do if you want to win the car? jt512 and others who already know the answer should not respond. Curt

In reply to: i'm assuming they open one of the doors you did *not* pick? in which case, you have, statistically, an equal probability of winning either with your initial choice or the other, 50/50 either way right? Yes, they open one of the two doors you did not pick--and show you a goat. That being the case, should you change your original door choice, in order to better your chances of winning the car? Curt

In reply to: ahhhh, nooo you switch! 'cause it's a 1/3 probability that you guessed right the first time and a 2/3 probabilty its in one of the doors you didn't pick. and if its not in the door they open... it's still a 2/3 probability that its in the one you didn't pick. you switch. :D Good job. Ive never seen lets make a deal so im not sure on how the game works but... i would say he would have to switch because by switching he would increase his probability of getting the right door to 2/3 as opposed to 1/3... but if that fails he could walk around with the goat hoping they are opposite sexes and the feral moans of a goat in heat would give away the answer. PM me if im wrong... i might be way off

In reply to: Curt, how would you compare the awesome bountiful 5-star world-class impeccable rock in Minnesota with the choss down where you live? Excellent question. While much of the rock in Minnesota is indeed wonderful, the "choss" we have available to us down here is not currently covered by ice or snow. Curt

In reply to: Camalots or tech friends? Camalots.
In reply to: Did you really ever climb with Duskerhu? Indeed, and with lesvor too.
In reply to: Do you know how old Kurt really is? Nope. I have no idea who Kurt is.
In reply to: And what was the bottom line for leaving Minnesota? Thanks, - Tim Well, let's see. I had the opportunity to take a job in LA, involving a huge pay increase in 1981, with Tahquitz, Suicide, Rubidoux, Joshua Tree and Yosemite basically in my backyard--or I could stay in MN amd freeze my ass off for six months out of the year....... Tough choice. Curt

In reply to: Ok this one isnt a riddle and isnt a play on word... just requires a little thought. What word in english can have 4 of its 5 letters removed and still have it's original pronunciation? The word Queue. If you take away ueue (Queue) and leave the q (Queue) It still says Queue. Read and say: Q Queue

To my knowledge the two may not be mutually exclusive. 3. I once saw bear scat in a parking lot, so the answer is obviously sometimes. 4. Einstein's biggest mistake... that turned out to not be a mistake afterall.

hehe. Dude, curt, Mac is another humanities student, she just may like Klein's book. I've been using it for a lot of stuff lately as I prepare for my comp exams. (soapbox) Academics in the climbing community are incredibly rare. We all how many engineers, scientists, and mathmaticians climb, and not infrequently we hear about how they apply their logical, left-brained analysis to their climbing. The sciences are conducive to climbing. However, we never hear about professors in history, english, philosophy, or anthropology that climb. There are very few. There have even been a few times as I sit through seminars listening to fellow students and professors hedge around problems, using unnecessary complicated words, and accomplish absolutely nothing intellectually, that I sometimes wonder if being an academic is somehow NOT conducive to climbing. Would we push forward through the crux, or would we simply sit around talking about it? So yeah, that's why I was so stoked when you told me about Klein: tenured professor at a very reputable institution, who is also a hell of a climber. And his book r00lezzzzz.

NH is cooler than UT for all of the following reasons and many more: -Easier access to Beer and other staples of a climber's life (whatever they may be) -The temperature is lower -There are no "anti-cruising" laws in NH -The traffic lights don't beep at you -Fewer people will try to get you to join their religion and bring all your dead relatives with you -The lakes don't have salt in them -Having tried to sleep in a car in both states, I can tell you that fewer people will hassle you in NH -If people do hassle you in NH, they are less likely to be armed -Orin Hatch does not live in NH

Hey Curt, are there any climbers you don't know? Will you ever brag that you know me, too? Surely I have a nicer ass than Stannard and Kerwin 8-) Hey Curt, how long of an article do I have to write (@ 35 cents/word) to afford a bottle of Curt-worthy scotch? Hey Curt, did you like Paradise Forks? Hey Curt, guessing the answer to the above question, can I have your new rack now, too? Hey Curt, does it bother you when people spell it "whiskey?" Hey Curt, do you know why my tortoise died last weekend? Did you know that he wasn't much different dead than alive, just a little smellier? Hey Curt, do you think I can send all the V0s on North Mountain this season? Hey Curt, did I really make the car ride to JTree seem twice as long even though you tried to get me to shut up by feeding me Pringles but they were the yucky plain kind anyway and besides that I talk with my mouth full?

But, in Utah, they provide little flags for you to safely cross teh street. CURT! COME BACK! I have questions for you. What kind of scotch is best for everyday drinking (i.e. while I study)? What kind of scotch is best for special occaission drinking? What kind of scotch is best for drinking with people you're trying to impress? coylec

In reply to: But, in Utah, they provide little flags for you to safely cross teh street. CURT! COME BACK! I have questions for you. What kind of scotch is best for everyday drinking (i.e. while I study)? What kind of scotch is best for special occaission drinking? What kind of scotch is best for drinking with people you're trying to impress? coylec I returned to this thread because this is a SERIOUS QUESTION, requiring a SERIOUS ANSWER. First of all "scotch" means different things to different people. For instance, to me blended scotch isn't really scotch at all, in spite of the fact it is Scottish. Go figure. So, we are talking about single malt whisky here, OK? There are distinct regional differences found in the malts distilled in the four major regions of Scotland. There are lowland malts, which are rather light and somewhat resemble Irish whisky. There are the Highland malts, which vary considerably, but (in general) are more distinctive than the lowland malts and often have flavors that result from ageing the whisky in Oloroso Sherry barrels, or Port barrels, etc. Next are the island malts, from Islay, Skye, the Orkneys, etc. which charactaristically exhibit intense smoky flavor, resulting from the use of local peat to halt the germination of the barley. Last of all are the Campbeltown malts, which are in their own distinct class. So, you will really have to see which type (or types) of these malts appeal to you personally. In spite of that caveat, here are a few suggestions for you: Everyday drinking: 10 year old Springbank (Campbeltown), 12 year old Macallan (Speyside - highlands), or Highland Park from the Orkneys. Special occasion drinking: 25 year old Macallan (about $400 per bottle and in my opinion, the very best malt available) or 25 year old Glenfarclas (at $150 a bottle, about 1/3 the cost of the Macallan) which is almost as good and is similarly aged in Oloroso Sherry casks. To impress people: Well, either of the two above should get the job done. If you want to impress me, you can buy the bottle of 1946 Macallan that is on sale at the store near me, where I buy my whisky. It is only $3,000 and I will help you drink it. Haha. Curt

In reply to: Hey Curt, are there any climbers you don't know? Will you ever brag that you know me, too? Surely I have a nicer ass than Stannard and Kerwin 8-) I have often remarked that I prefer spotting you, as opposed to Kerwin. This is partly because you fall. Frequently.
In reply to: Hey Curt, how long of an article do I have to write (@ 35 cents/word) to afford a bottle of Curt-worthy scotch? A mere 1,200 word article would score a bottle of 25 year old Macallan. Its older than you--and sweeter too.
In reply to: Hey Curt, did you like Paradise Forks? @&^**@%^ you and the ^%&*@@#$ horse you rode in on.
In reply to: Hey Curt, guessing the answer to the above question, can I have your new rack now, too? Nope, I used the stuff in October at the Gunks, where there is actually good trad climbing. So, I still need it. Besides, I already gave you all my old crap.
In reply to: Hey Curt, does it bother you when people spell it "whiskey?" Silly Irish and Canadians. Hahahaha.
In reply to: Hey Curt, do you know why my tortoise died last weekend? Did you know that he wasn't much different dead than alive, just a little smellier? I suspected something had died in there, when I was at your place several months ago.
In reply to: Hey Curt, do you think I can send all the V0s on North Mountain this season? Only with my beta and me spotting you.
In reply to: Hey Curt, did I really make the car ride to JTree seem twice as long even though you tried to get me to shut up by feeding me Pringles but they were the yucky plain kind anyway and besides that I talk with my mouth full? No. Actually the time passed quite quickly on that trip, since I was deeply immersed in imagining various means by which I could kill myself. Curt

Orin Hatch is a repressed homosexual who likes to sing cheesy patriotic duets with John Ashcroft.

In reply to: Curt, have you really climbed with all the people you say you have? If I imply that you haven't, will you list them all again? :P I can see that I should have this list prepared ahead of time--so I can merely copy-and-paste as needed. Haha. Curt

In reply to: how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? who's your all-time favorite climbing partner and why? By far and away, the climber I learned the most from was John Stannard. John Gill was another huge influence on my climbing carreer, but of course, that influence was more related to bouldering. As far as "favorite" goes, there are many, many climbers that I have enjoyed climbing with and continue to enjoy climbing with. Curt

I'd just assume not associate the words "work" or "career" with climbing, so hence no "climbing career". So to rephrase, you could say John Gill helped you with your climbing mojo.

dude, "indie kid" is sooooo mid-nineties. and all I know about emo is that it gets played at my gym way too much. I can't really see why one would be inclined to make out to it, though, unless it makes them feel unusually heartfelt-tormented-whatever.

In reply to: why do emo kids like to make out to dashboard confessional and other similarly depressing music? That's easy. It's cuz they haven't discovered Sade yet.

Back in Austin, TX there is a club called Emo's that had a band play there frequently called the "Fuck Emos", which I assumed was a comment on the club itself. I'm sure all of this goes back to the Tickle me Elmo doll from Seasame Street. Pfffft.

In reply to: lol.... mac.. coylec... climbinginchico.. coldclimb... i know one of you knows what an emo kid is and why they make out to depressing music... tell our good freind curt here. Uh, cos they're emo? I'm still hung up on the goth kids that would cut up their arms in class and write bad poetry to Marilyn Manson and NIN (how 1997 am I??). My little brother (who's 17) makes fun of the emo kids, but I don't know if what he listens to is rockin' either. Taking Back Sunday, whine-whine-effeminate wail-SCREAM, type-stuff. Kids. Which reminds me, my dude got the Vans Warped Tour 2004 compilation disc and we listened to it on the way to and from Hueco this weekend. Blah. I must be out of touch... but that shit was bad.

In reply to: I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about either. And here I thought you might be able to serve as an interpreter between clausti and me. Curt It's apparant that the term "emos" is similar to what "goth" means, albeit with a particular modification that is only meaningful to those who apply the term or felt the need for it. I think quite possibley for you and me Curt, we could lump all those kids into the group labeled "little fuckheads".

When I was in high school in Utah ten yeas ago it was all metal heads, ska boys, ravers, grungers, and straight edgers. No emo back in them days, although Sunnyday Real Estate did give a local concert. I think they later became total emo bedwetters.

Yeah, I wear baggy jeans and frequent coffee shops myself. I thought the devotion to a particular type of music and the drivel it embraces was the core of the emo thing, like goth kids wanting to be vampires and get all into death stuff, way cool. Speaking of sort of proto-goth kids, my brother once knew a kid named Danny he met in art class. Danny knew some punk kids who reportedly robbed a grave of an elderly man and put it in their attic and named Gramps. This is the sort of thing I think would later appeal to goth kids to do. I'm surprised there was not a fad like this.

Being scrawny and unkempt with too-small "vintage" clothes and big black glasses works for me at Tori Amos concerts, but not him :P I'm not trendy, just horribly out of touch.

What a sad, sad thing this thread has become. :( Curt, if I go to Red Rocks with only one day to climb, is Levitation-29 worth my day or should I pick something else? Also, is it in the shade or sun (doable in the Winter without too much discomfort?)?

Emo is like the new Country. Every song sounds the same...and it all sucks. "Emo" is also short for 'emotional punk.' Frightening concept. Also, I think clausti is being a little generous by saying that they are usually above average intelligence. :P What a bunch of whiners!

Also, is it in the shade or sun (doable in the Winter without too much discomfort?)? I have gotten snowed out a couple of times at Red Rock that time of year, so it will all depend on the weather. Do the first 7 pitches and rap, rather than topping out and doing the walk-off. Supposedly, that's the better option. Curt

In reply to: pithy is a real word, dork. concise and full of meaning; "welcomed her pithy comments"; "the peculiarly sardonic and sententious style in which Don Luis composed his epigrams"- Hervey Allen www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwn Ahahaha, I love it when people take me seriously. It just shows the cultural differences between Oz and the US. Yup, I was definitely aiming at being totally not serious. I thought it was a great play on the language my little pithy joke. I`ve just been to see Team America World Police. Great fun movie but I reckon they could easily toned down the foul language and still got their point across. I loved that song I`m ronery, rearry ronery. Excerrent. I rove messing around with words. I rearry do.

In reply to: Where will I weigh more? At the Equator or the South Pole? I`m guessing here and will say you would weigh the same as gravity is a factor of mass and not of rotation.
In reply to: Which direction does draining water swirl at the Equator? It does not swirl at the equator.
In reply to: Does the swirling effect increase as you move away from the Equator? Obviously the answer to that would have to be yes due to the non existent swirl at the equator, thus the swirl takes effect due to the coriolis effect when even a hundred yards from the equator. So from no swirl to some swirl the effect is thus an increased swirl. The swirling effect is what gives us the rotation of tropical storms such as hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones and of course last but not least tornadoes. Cyclones rotate for the most part in a clockwise direction in the southern hemisphere much in the same way as water swirls down the toilet in a similar fashion of clockwise. This is of course reversed in the northern hemisphere to being counter clockwise.

No. Sadly, like Dear Abby, I can not answer all letters. I turned this thread over to j_ung for a while, and he did a great job. If you want to take over for a while, have at it. Haha. Curt

Hahaha, as Papua New Guinea is the nearest foreign country to our state of Queensland (we share a border) I keep abreast (pun intended) of our neighbours. I`ve seen pics of those women with their babies on their backs and I kid you not that the babies are using their mothers breasts to feed from whilst still strapped to their backs. Those things are like razor strops. They pick their boobs up and fling them over their shoulders to keep them out of the way. A kid will be feeding on one while a pig feeds on the other, I am not joking. Pigs are virtually the cash econonmy of Papua and so if a pig is orphaned a mother will feed it herself.

In reply to: dear Curt Are you too old to go to the geezer gathering? Brenda Actually I fear I may be too young. However, I intend to try and sneak by on a waiver or perhaps on a technicality. By the time of the geezer gathering next June, I will be 49 (and in my 50th year) so, I may round up my age rather than truncating. Haha. Curt

If you lived in Papua New Guinea in all likelyhood you would have had half a dozen kids by the time you are 21 and as bras are not a fashion accessory you would more than likely be able to throw your boobs over your shoulders.

Where did you come up with the less than 1% number, Most estimates say that approximately 10% is gay or bisexual. You don't have to approve of the lifestyle. You don't have to consider it moral. You don't have to beleive that it is a genetic, not learned, trait. But, as global and US citizens, you have an obligation to accept diversity. Tolerate at least. And how is it shoved down our throat? Just ignore it if it bothers you, but don't persecute others because of it.

The ten percent figure comes from the now widely discredited Kinsey report. The true figures are less than 1%. As for toleration, the 99% of the rest of us are expected to tolerate but that same toleration is not shown by the other side.

Well, diversifying by region is always good. I would suggest a bottle of Springbank, the premier Campbletown malt, a bottle of Highland Park from the Orkneys, and a bottle of Edradour from Pitlochry (the smallest distillery in Scotland) and my favourite of all the distilleries I have visited. Then perhaps double up on either good Speybank or Islay malts. If you prefer Speybank, I would recommend either a bottle of Glenfarclas or Glenlossie (if you can find it) or, if you prefer the smokier Islay malts, go for a bottle of Ardbeg. Curt

If you actually care about your scotch selection and don't want to drink the same 15 or so name brands over and over until you die from boredom, and don't care that guests will not see fnacy lables, may I recommend you either purchase re-bottlings of single-cask (scotts selection, etc. any decent store can help you, or I would be happy to) or, better yet, join the scotch malt whisky society. (www.smwsa.com) I have been a member for a number of years. You get access to HUNDREDS of bottlings from every region, shipped to you undiluted, non-chilfiltered, single cask, cask-strength. Tasting notes are available. When someone comes to your house, find out what they like, and then use your experience with these remarkeable whiskies to give them a treat they will be amazed by. The opportunity to dilute (with correct water, of course) to an appropriate nosing proof or drinking prrof is remarkeabble, as is the option of tasting at cask strength and diluted, experiencing the difference in the nose and moutfeel as different strengths are attained. otherwise, go with Curt's selections and recommendations. They are all quite good. The smws whisky is not cheap, averaging around 90-100 a bottle, but they are simply amazing. If you have not had the pleaseure of drinking indivisually selected cask-strength non-chillfiltered scotch, you are missing out. if you are ever around CT, I'd be happy to share a dram or three with you. Edit: To further agree with Curt, if you do buy springbank, buy a bottle of every age they have available. It is one of the most intriguing vertical tastings I have ever had the pleasure of taking part in. Old springbank is hard to find...good luck!!

In reply to: In reply to: But, as global and US citizens, you have an obligation to accept diversity. Do all those post-election, "I'm moving to Canada" people embrace this mindset? Yes, I think they do, and see a country they still love rejecting it to such a vile degree that they stated (most speaking in hyperbole, I imagine) this extreme position. The fact that a decent percentage of the populace supports writing bigotry into the constitution based on their own morality is simply unacceptable to another decent percentage. HOW DOES GAY MARRIAGE/RIGHTS affect you?? You don't have to find it moral. But why must you make it illegal? Why should people in love and dedicated for life have less rights than you because you think they are doing something immoral? What if the religios right said that having the hair color you have makes you less of a person, and you should not be allowed to marry. If the majority agreed, you would just accept it, right? Thought so.

Does it do harm to individuals? Or the rights they are supposed to have under the law? If so, then I imagine I would not like it (I do not claim to be an expert on Islamic culture or rules).

For example, in a dispute between a husband and wife, the husband almost always wins, regardless of who is at fault. In the spirit of embracing diversity shouldn't we withhold judgements?

I do believe you are missing the difference between tolerance/diversity and blind acceptance. If a person is harmed, or rights UNDER THE LAW are infringed, then it is not a matter of tolerance. If a person is considered "winning" in the home, then yes, that is a matter for the religion, and should be tolerated. If, for example, a woman can be diverced inside the religion for disagreeing with her husband, that's her religion. I might not lie it, but its hers. If she tries to get help from the courts, because this is against the family law where she lives, then the court must apply the law of the land fairly, regardless of her (or his) religion. If religios doctrine is allwoed to run the law, then the taliban is right, and we are wrong. Same goes for the debate re: homosexualtiy. The law must not be driven by some group's take on religious doctrine.

Good call Bumblie. I just can't let it go, sometimes. Curt, WHY, oh WHY do boulderers wear beanies when they are not wearing a shirt? I just don't get it. Is it hot? Is it cold? Are they horrific fashion victims with too many good muscles to not show off? Thanks, Befuddled in Bishop.

When you climb w/ Hillary do you check out her ass? If yes is it: A) a quick glance B) multiple glances C) a long awkward stare where drool starts to form in the corner of your mouth and unconsciously your brake hand slides off the rope to adjust your unit from the fantasies that you play out in head

In reply to: Curt, White Rastafarian and Stem Gem were way better than Saturday Night Live how come you did not tell me about these? I have done each of those problems a zillion times or so. IMO, White Rasta is only a "great" problem because it is a highball. Stem Gem is good, but IMO, not as good as SNL. That's the thing about opinions though..... I am glad you had fun there anyway. In reply to: what's the best scotch to drink while i'm driving? do you think i can get the olsen twins in bed if I bribe them with coke? Well, if you are drinking a fine single malt, the attention one gives to the nose often (in my case anyway) is best achieved with eyes closed, so not recommended while driving (that's just not safe). Also, an open glass can be spilled far too easily. So, IMHO, for on the road scotch, I recommend something not too high-level to be enjoyed out of a flask or even the bottle. JW Black, if you must go to a blend, or a Glelivet 12 would do nicely, and is young enough to survive the onslaught of the taste-killing flask or the aroma-killing small opening of the bottle. You might do well to look into the bargain-priced single malts, such as McClelands (I may have spelld that wrong), they have a nice assortment of Highlang, Lowald, and Islay whisky that is robust enough for the above task. As for the Olsen twines....I hear one of them has a disorder....you minght want to make it diet coke. Edit: The publishers of "Scotch Snob weekly" do not condone drinking while driving, the above post was meant for humourous purposes only, and remid you to drink responsibly.

In reply to: what's the best scotch to drink while i'm driving? I don't recommend drinking scotch while actually driving. It is too hard to hold the club and the glass at the same time. Try it while putting, instead.

Curt, this is the most informative thread on RC. Can we have it made a sticky, preferably in Suggestions and Questions, and linked to the front page, so I don't have to browse the site to read it? Also, are you an A-hole? How about Jay? Do you think Jay would let me belay him? WIth a grigri? One handed with an ATC? With the foot belay?

You will have to ask Phil about that--but I doubt it. This thread certainly belongs in the "Community" forum.
In reply to: Also, are you an A-hole? Actually, I have never denied being one--or claimed to be one. I think its best if everyone reaches their own conclusion, in that regard.
In reply to: How about Jay? No, Jay is a nice guy masquerading here as an asshole.
In reply to: Do you think Jay would let me belay him? WIth a grigri? One handed with an ATC? With the foot belay? You'll have to ask Jay about those questions. Haha. Curt

There are three climbers that check into a motel and only get one room. The room only costs $45, so they each pay $15. The guy at the desk later realizes that the room was only $40, so he sends his son to give the climbers the $5 change. The son, knowing that there are 3 people in the room, can't figure out how to divide $5 three ways, so he gives them each $1 and pockets $2. So lets do the math on this. Each climber paid $15, but got $1 back so they paid $14. Three people paying $14 each equals $42. Add the $2 the son kept and that adds up to $44. What happened to the extra dollar?

How big is your penis during a full, lunar eclipse when Jupiter's "Io" and "Europa" are moving in sync, with "Io" leading by exactly 5.44km? What are the ramifications to your erection? Do you find that Saturn's moom "Titan" has anything to do with trajectory? Also; What is 4 times 51?

In reply to: and do you think? i'll get? another award for my punctuation soon? No, and not for your grammar either. You meant to ask: "newbierockstar is how much older than I ?" Haha. Curt

Hey Curt there is this girl I like, she is pretty and intelligent. I have taken her climbing with me and I hang out with her almost everyday at school and we have a blast together, always laughing and goofing around. She seems to be resisting all my advances though she has admitted that she has had a crush on me in the past. I have already ask her 'out' so to speak, twice. What should I do? Some people have suggested that maybe she is just afraid of commitment I mean the semester is over in a month and she will be going home for 2 or 3 months before fall semester starts so that might be understandable. But to outright deny me twice? I mean I am a pretty ok looking guy, applying to medical school etc. etc. I mean I can even climb 5.12 haha... I am not a total schmuck. So what's the deal? Should I just try and accept the fact that we are friends even though I have a crush on her or should I be persistent?

In reply to: hey curt.... come out west alone or stick to the east-lands? I'd say head out west, if you have never climbed out here--and if you can still swing it, financially. As a fall-back position, I would at least try to spend some time in the Gunks. The Gunks are fantastic. Curt

In reply to: In reply to: ..The Gunks are fantastic. Curt Other than the Gill Egg, what are the top 5 must do problems at the Gunks? Actually, I don't boulder much in the Gunks. I usually go there to do routes. I like all the climbs on the slime wall a lot.
In reply to: When would you take a week off and go? Anytime is good, so long as the heat and humidity aren't too oppressive.
In reply to: Why don't you wear the pink lycra anymore? Totally ghey in the 21st Century.
In reply to: Would you wear the pink lycra the next time you go to the Gunks? No. Please see above. Hahahaha. Curt

When Curt comes online, he may have a better answer than I....but i reprised it because I noticed that our black sheep, good ole Nolan 14 has returned to the fold. He made a comment about someone smearing his bad name...to a thread that was a haf year old. But...I couldn't resist seeing what our boy had been up to, re-wise. So, I clicked on his "all Posts Made By" button, and saw this one, as his last... And, it seemed like a good idea, at the time, to reprise this thread...... . . . I'm not perfect, you know.....

For all of these who razz you about that fine and "classic" example of the Lycra Era.. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...to_show.php?id=29286 They just don't know! There is a group of local Squamish climbers who are desperately trying to resurrect these colorful times.. http://home.primus.ca/.../summit/pipeline.jpg The guy on the left even had a web page dedicated to his quest, (which I cannot seem to locate). He also had a desperate plea for examples of "Great Lycra", I instantly thought of your photo and directed him to it. He replied that he thought it was an exceptional example but wanted to know if it was a one piece? I am also curious :)

Did anyone else notice how Urban Climber magazine seems to have a blatant ripe-off of the Ask Curt/Ask a n00b threads? Something called "Yo Joe" or something or other. The article consists of people asking stupid questions and him giving a stupid answer... Not that the idea is all and all original in the first place but... hmm Curt what do you think?

What I'd like to know, Curt, is how - with all the threads that have that pink lycra photo imbedded - the actual photo page has only got two comments under it? The sway you much hold over the court! No one doth dare, it seems.....

In reply to: In reply to: ...the average specific gravity of... Isn't that a bit of a contradiction ...although I have no idea what you're talking about, so maybe not. 8^) No, wood is a living organism until man cuts it off at the knees and uses it for his beck and call. An average SG is just that, an average of a specific type of wood. I will except a 10% variation in answering that question, however I will be less lenient in my second favorite color category; i.e. if it were fuschia, then lavender or pomegranite would not be acceptable substitutes. Curt, of course, realizes the gravity of these questions.

See.. now here is a guy that is obviously as comfortable with his manhood as curt. (A mere mortal would have pulled the pink lycra pic long ago) I am still trying to piece together in my head, an image of your profile photo, with those.. *space pants*. They're great but, I have to ask:
Are you in a rock band? Do you climbing in them? Or do strut around Berlin in them? Were you trying to compare your butt to hers when you took this photo? You should climb in those dood, curt would be proud for sure! :D

That's a terribly feeble and pathetic rate of whisky consumption--I'm personally embarrassed for you.
In reply to: Also, am I going to finally send sign of the cross when we go to Hueco in a couple of weeks? I would say "yes" except that you haven't been coming out and going bouldering with us at Oak Flat. Instead, you have been training for SotC by going out and doing lightweighthomosportclimbing every weekend. So, I still have my doubts. Curt

(Seems like a waste of Lagavulin to me.) Ah one more question: have ya had the Laphroaig quarter cask? That depends on the scotch in question. The swill that BVB normally drinks can indeed benefit from the addition of a little ice. The good stuff, however, is best served neat--in a brandy snifter. 8^) And, no, I'm not a huge fan of Laphroig. I prefer Lagavulin, Bowmore or Ardbeg for Islay malts. Curt

I'll take that one. Clearly, not much longer. I even tried to tempt curt by asking about bouldering (an activity I generally detest) to lure him out of his slumber. But I got no reply. And I am not one for much scotch talk. Oh well. PS--yo fracture, have you seen the latest R&I, the Justen Sjong article?

HELLO CAMHEAD. OF COURSE YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT ONE. BURT BRONSON DOES NOT "DATE." IT IS NOT SOMETHING DONE BY THE LAST BASTION OF THE SERIOUS HARDMAN. IT INVOLVES "FEELINGS" AND "EMOTIONS."
