Don't limit your investing to the financial world, Invest something in yourself and you will be richly rewarded At last the ladder which had been built slowly, slowly one hope at a time reached up to the clouds. And the dreamer began to climb.

The Dream I dreamed I had an interview with God. "Come in," God said. "So, you would like to interview Me?" "If you have the time," I said. God smiled and said: "My time is eternity and is enough to do everything; what questions do you have in mind to ask me?" "What surprises you most about mankind?" God answered: "That they get bored of being children, are in a rush to grow up, and then long to be children again. That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health. That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live neither for the present nor the future. That they live as if they will never die, and they die as if they had never lived..." God's hands took mine and we were silent for a while and then I asked... "As a parent, what are some of life's lessons you want your children to learn?" God replied with a smile: "To learn that they cannot make anyone love Them. What they can do is to let themselves be loved. To learn that what is most valuable is not what they have in their lives, but who they have in their lives. To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others. All will be judged individually on their own merits, not as a group on a comparison basis. To learn that a rich person is not the one who has the most, but is one who needs the least. To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in persons we love, and that it takes many years to heal them. To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness. To learn that there are persons that love them dearly, but simply do not know how to express or show their feelings. To learn that money can buy everything but happiness. To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it totally differently. To learn that a true friend is someone who knows everything about them and likes them anyway. To learn that it is not always enough that they be forgiven by others, but that they have to forgive themselves." I sat there for a while enjoying the moment. I thanked Him for his time and for all that He has done for me and my family. And He replied, "Anytime. I'm here 24 hours a day. All you have to do is ask for me, and I'll answer." -Author Unknown [ This Message was edited by: pushtheextreme on 2001-11-14 19:19 ]

"But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom. Only a person who risks is free. The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; and the realist adjusts the sails." — William Arthur Ward.

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be. ~Patanjali

~Dreams of Reality "The key to the search, the quest to achieve, Is Motivation. To admire and derive accomplishments of great men, Is Inspiration. The quality to let the mind free beyond boundaries, beyond the impossible, Is Imagination. To start feeling those dreams, to think them true, Is Perception. The insight to tread one road, the eye to choose one right path, Is Direction. To walk that chosen road, count milestones as you cross by, Is Perspiration. The joy of looking back, and cherishing the way, Is Realization. To continuously better oneself, and the qualities that make them, Is Improvisation. The final struggle to see no spec, no fault, Is Perfection. To reach the light at the end of the long road, a wonderful feeling, Is Destination." ~ Aishwarya Varadhan

This isn't really a quote but I like it. Once upon a time there lived a princess. One day the princess met a frog who said,"Help me beutiful princess! I'm really a prince, but an evil witch put a curse on me so now I am in this form! If you kiss my slimy cold lips I'll turn back into a prince and you can come marry me and live in my castle. You can bear my children ,clean up after me, clean the castle and do the laundry! so what do you think?". "Not bloody likely!" thought the princess as she ate frog legs with her family that evening. -Peter Mayle

"The essence of our experience is change. Change is incessant. Moment by moment life flows by and it is never the same. Perpetual alternation is the essence of the perceptual universe. A thought springs up in your head and half a second later, it is gone. In comes another one, and that is gone too. A sound strikes your ears, and then silence. Open your eyes and the world pours in, blink and it is gone too. People come into your life and they leave again. Friends go, relatives die. Your fortunes go up, and they go down. Sometimes you win and just as often you lose. It is incessant: change, change, change." ~Bhante Henepola Gunaratana Mindfullness In Plain English [ This Message was edited by: nikegirl on 2002-02-25 11:42 ]

"The theory is: if you are separated from yourself, you start walking and you keep walking until you meet yourself. Then you sit down and have a long talk. You talk about everything that you've learned, everything that you .. felt. And you talk until you run out of words. Now, that's vital, because the real important things can't be said. And then, if you are lucky, you look up and there's just you, and you can go home." -Franklin

It is no mystery that thinking can make us happy or miserable. Let's say your sitting under a tree one fine spring day. Nothing particular is happening to you, except perhaps the breeze is ruffling your hair, yet in your mind your're far away. Maybe you're remembeting another spring day several years back when you were feeling terrible. You had just lost your job, or failed an exam, or youcat had wandered off. That memory turns into worry. "What if I lose my job again? Why did I ever say such-and-such to so-and-so? No doubt this or that will happen, and I'll be out on my ear. Now I'm really in for it! How will I pay my bills?" One worry brings up another, which brings up another. Soon you feel your life is in shambles~~ But all this while you've been sitting under the tree! Last time I was down south I walked into this restaurant, and this white waitress came up to me and said: “We don’t serve colored people here” I said: “That’s all right, I don’t eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken.” - Dick Gregory, comedian and political activist. I think I rattled my liver lose the first time I heard that.

My friend and I were sitting in Hess Village (basically a small street with a bunch of bars), and we were looking at all the ego-driven trendy youth and came up with this slogan. "The Village has all the depth of a puddle; once you've broken the surface, you've already hit rock bottom."

"You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place ? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know." — René Daumal.

What are the marks of a sick culture? It is a bad sign when the people of a country stop identifying themselves with the country and start identifying with a group. A racial group. Or a religion. Or a language. Anything, as long as it isn't the whole population. A very bad sign. Particularism. It was once considered a Spanish vice but any country can fall sick with it. Dominance of males over females seems to be one of the symptoms. Before a revolution can take place, the population must loose faith in both the police and the courts. High taxation is important and so is inflation of the currency and the ratio of the productive to those on the public payroll. But that's old hat; everybody knows that a country is on the skids when its income and outgo get out of balance and stay that way - even though there are always endless attempts to wish it way by legislation. But I started looking for little signs and what some call silly-season symptoms. I want to mention one of the obvious symptoms: Violence. Muggings. Sniping. Arson. Bombing. Terrorism of any sort. Riots of course - but I suspect that little incidents of violence, pecking way at people day after day, damage a culture even more than riots that flare up and then die down. Oh, conscription and slavery and arbitrary compulsion of all sorts and imprisonment without bail and without speedy trial - but those things are obvious; all the histories list them. I think you have missed the most alarming symptom of all. This one I shall tell you. But go back and search for it. Examine it. Sick cultures show a complex of symptoms as you have named... But a dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than a riot. This symptom is especially serious in that an individual displaying it never thinks of it as a sign of ill health but as proof of his/her strength. Look for it. Study it. It is too late to save this culture - this worldwide culture, not just the freak show here in California. Therefore we must now prepare the monasteries for the coming Dark Age. Electronic records are too fragile; we must again have books, of stable inks and resistant paper. --- Friday and Dr. Baldwin in Friday

""Oh, s#!* !" ‹ Jim Madsen when he rappelled off the end of his rope on El Cap's Dihedral Wall in 1968." This was a random quote on the home page...Did the dude die or what? Just curious. What is the story behind this quote?

I am not you. Through your perilous walk on the tight rope you have forgotten. I set myself apart. I join in with the laughing of the hyenas, mocking you. I stalk things higher than skyscrapers. My domain seeks no pleasure. It is quite passive actually. I’m not a consumer. I’m not formed by cheap advertisements. I choose to go beyond 16 movie channels and satellite RV’s; it’s not my style. Plaster billboards and top 50 records don’t turn my eye. Not even am I swayed by a cubicle top notch executive in an import car. My parallel is littered with inanimate object formed by millions of years of torture, not a rotting skeleton behind a computer. No, I take the lateral approach. The stand-on-the-edge-in-gale-force-winds type of person. I was never one in the urban jungle, but rather, I found it more enjoyable with the few who still had that look in their eyes. You know the look. The one you lost long ago, somewhere behind your caged windows. Tend to the courage of the river, the strength of the peak. Is it so hard for you not to realize that your life is passing you by as you invest everything you own in paper? What is so inconceivable? For me a lighter spirit joins the mood. More of a stillness and lack of deprivation. It’s the very essence of a single nomadic soul bursting to face danger, to smell fear in others and not myself. How then, can you reframe, when revealed to yourself, the inner hypnotism that is our propaganda society? My question is only how do you live your everyday life with no passion? I would not even be able to reach out and turn the alarm clock to snooze. This is too hard for me to understand even though everyday I am faced with these hard, cold facts. I can’t even fathom these feelings. But could they even be called by such a passionate word? No, it deserves no such thing. I would rather use a contradiction. To describe it as a life of too much passion, unable to be comprehended. It’s a dazed and confused Mozart meeting hard core Megadeath, living on the outskirts of a royal pain. Taken away from this pleasure seeking society. Like a Tiger, after its prey, the unsuspecting victim, always a hidden motive. It’s the prey of the inner child. I’ve melted away for you, brought myself in front of this place. Will you follow suite? I’d love to hear the symphony. I’ve dared to dance in open view where all the world’s my stage. Join in, comprehend, amaze yourself, and, above all, laugh in your own way. Peace, Love, and Rock.

Relationships are like Rome. Difficult to start out, incredible during the prosperity of the 'Golden Age', and unbearable during the fall. Then, a new kingdom will come along and the whole process will repeat itself until you come across a kingdom like Egypt...that thrives, and continues to flourish. This kingdom will become your best friend, your soulmate, and your love. --Helen Keller

"There are three things in life that you must remember. 1) Always greet a problem with a smile. I forget the other two." This was a friend of mine. He was being serious and literally forgot the other two. The other two are: 2) Never get more than 8 hours of sleep. 3) Never eat eggs twice in one day. Steve
