I saw a documentary on television about Tommy Caldwell and his climbing team, who were kidnapped. If I remember correctly Caldwell was forced to try and kill one of his captors. Anyone see this program?

Greg Child wrote a book called "Over the Edge." It's a good read and should have all of the information your looking for.

In reply to: Greg Child wrote a book called "Over the Edge." It's a good read and should have all of the information your looking for. So, would I find this under 'Fiction' or 'Non-fiction'?

Over the edge is a good read. really goes into detail the various groups in the area and historical background. Not just a "this is what happened" sort of book. Found it a the Dollar store too! SCORE!!

Fiction or non-fiction? If it really happened...I'll let you be the judge.

If anyone knows when that Nat. Geo show is going to be on, please PM me. I worked as the climbing consultant for their pick up shots (they ran out of time in Yosemite) and they shot the close ups on the porta-ledge and the Cave scene in my back yard. The Chossman

Do you know when Nat Geo is supposed to show it yet? When you do find out let me know I just started climbing and I didn't know anything about it?

I actually work with Jason "Singers" Smith mom..nice lady. This was defiantly a tragic event that no one thought could happen. Makes you really stop and think.

The climbers were Tommy Caldwell, Beth Roden, and two other guys I can't remember right now. Tommy lost a part of his finger in the incident, and yes he threw their guard off a cliff. The story behind that was that their young guard decided they should climb up some rock to get somewhere, so its one guard and four experienced free climbers soloing 5.easy and they decided that if they were going to escape then then was the time. Tommy being closet to the guard threw him off. The erie part is they went back to pick up the gear they had left at their base camp and actually ran into the guy Tommy threw off the cliff. The show is one of the Expeditions to the Edge programs it was interesting to watch. Oh yeah, all during the ordeal they had no food, water, or warm cloths and were caught in the middle of skirmishes with the Kazak army. Scary stuff.
