Paramo (www.paramo.co.uk) is a British company that doesn't really market in the US, but they make w/b jackets that work by wicking liquid away from you faster than it can come in, this makes it very breathable and puncture proof meaning you can poke holes in it and it doesnt leak. sounds interesting. Anyone have one? Jeremy

I've got a Paramo jacket. The material works as advertised- waterproof and very breathable. Doesn't give the feeling of wearing a hard crinkley layer like Goretex. It also functions as an insulating layer. On the downside, it's relatively heavy and the insulation isn't good for people who tend to run hot. The concept is more complex than for Goretex, which is probably the main reason it has not caught on, but it does have quite a dedicated following in the UK. My jacket is actually made by Cioch Direct using Paramo fabric. Cioch is a small company based on the Isle of Skye who will do custom orders. As mentioned above, check www.ukclimbing.com and do a search on old posts.
