Sorry for a spinoff of the port-a-john thread, but it got me wondering... Has anyone actually tipped a cow? I'm talking about first hand experience of pushing over a sleeping cow. My guess is this practice is little more than a plausible myth or if it was done, it was done to a calf, not a fully grown adult cow. From a brief internet search I found a lot of (city) people with secondhand info of bovine assault. Additionally, I found that people who have worked with livestock universally agree that cow tipping is a load of bullshit. Any cow tippers out there?

It's a load of bull! Evolutionary practices have made the modern bovine an extremely scared, aware and alert animal. (I would be too if facing a daily battle against predators, strong wristed milk maids, and the chance that the butcher might put a .22 caliber hole in my head). They wake up before you even get close to them. Believe me, growing up in cattle country, we tried lots of times. I think the only things falling over in those fields were the tipsy would-be tippers.

Average cow weighs half a ton. Tipping a cow is about as easy as tipping a Geo Metro, on a weight basis. No way in hell you are tipping that bovine over by running your drunk ass at it and planting her with your shoulder.

Cows are evil. And they taste bad. If you bite them, they give this really messed up disease that makes you go mad and put your feet in your mouth.

Dude, don't mess around with cows. They are extremely large and while many may be docile, the ones kept out in pasture are nearly wild animals. I could tell you stories, of how I was almost mounted by a gigantic dairy cow, or how I was sandwiched between a cowchute and an angry Jersey heifer and the bruises I sustained. Besides, they sleep most of the time laying down. K.

In reply to: Cows are the devil. I would agree with both of these....same boat...chased across the barnyard a few times by a very pissed of fcow when I was young....trapped against the barn....not very pleasant.... College...a roomy and I would go drivign aroudn teh countryside (filled with cows) and we woudl carry our paint ball guns....now that is fun  Stoopid animals never coudl figure that out. Now I change tires for many dairys and feed lots and some times work in very close proximity to the dumb bovines.....I still like to make fun of them....but more times then not...they will give you about 15' to work with and wont' come any closer....but still fun to throw rocks at them  I know...very mature....but 1 cow ruined it for the rest when she scarred me for life at a young age  COW HATERS UNITE!!!

In college, some friends and I struck out late one night for the sole purpose of cowtipping. Adhering to the "fast and light" rule, we brought the minimum required equipment: a case of beer and a silver bong that was christened "the Chromium". As with many such adventures, the ultimate goal escaped us, however we learned on that night that quite often the journey is the destination. Miles covered: about 4 (Two in a straight line, but we couldn't walk a straight line. Cows spotted: about 50-70 Cows approached (as in, on their side of the fence): Maybe 30 Cows tipped: Nunya Brain cell net gain/loss: -7,000,000

I was usually too busy digging around in the cowshit to bother with trying to tip them, but it doesn't seem like it would be easy or worthwhile.

You have to get the cow drunk first. It may not make the tipping that much easier, but it's a matter of common courtesy to the cow. I remember on more than one occasion that I managed to tip the entire planet on its side, cows and all, but I have yet to tip just a single cow in isolation of the rest of the planet.
