I'm interested in getting some route descriptions for Nelson Rocks in West Virginia. I'd really like to see a topo of the diffrent faces. The wvclimbing site is down and I was wondering if there were alternative resources.

Yeah - I hear the horst guide is the only other thing going.
I've been under the impression that Nelson has a pretty good reputation - so I'm a little suprised that there hasn't been more proliferation.

I hear that there are some sport climbs that you can access higher up on the face with great exposure - sounds unique for this neck of the woods. It would make for a well rounded day of climbing.

There is some stuff in Horst's guide. I've climbed a bit around the lower part of the left fin (007 Wall). There are some easy and moderate sport and trad routes there. Just watch your rock quality.

Cross the bridge, the sport wall is on the east fin, east side in the middle.

When u sign in to climb Nelson talk to whoever is there... ask about the sport rts. They also have a little guide u can look at!
As soon as u walk up the trail theres some easy clipups rite there.

But if ur looking for "great exposure you can find that on VIA FERRATA
and of course Seneca !
Theres also some sport in Franklen, I think thats in Guide also.

Enjoy

I know at one point in time last year, Pete, who works at Nelson, was in office when I signed in and he was in the middle of working on a new guide. He has helped put up many of the climbs I believe, and knows the place inside out. If you go there or find a contact for Nelson via e-mail, you might ask if it's finished or not. If my memory serves me correctly he said last summer that it was suppose to be done somtime in the fall. You know how things like that go though, so maybe it's not finished yet.

Denny knows whats up. The boys at the cabin will tell you all you need to know. They're putting up routes quite proliferatively, so there's always new stuff. As far as I know (the last time I was there) they were working on a guidebook. It was really nice, color photos with routes drawn over the photos, nice descrips and everything. Not sure if that will get released, or not, but you sure can find out all you need to know from them.
