Hyperextended my leg yesterday "severely" straining my hamstring according to one Doctor's diagnosis. He refuses to give me an estimated recovery time (He's my uncle, doesn't charge me for exams but thinks climbing should be left to monkeys and lizards). I've pulled both hams before but this is definitely worse. Pretty much extends from the calf to the glute. Treatment at the moment is rest, ice, Banlag and Soma. Similar experiences? Recovery?

I have completely torn my right hamstring complex (all 3 muscles). I have severely strained both hamstrings. Multiple times. Such is the fate of a sprinter. The torn hamstrings, with physical therapy (ultrasound, stem, heat/cold, massage, strengthening, stretching) took about 4 months to heal to where I could run (jog, not sprint) again. I strained both my hammys my junior year in college. Same race even. It took me about 2 months to be cleared to compete again. Be careful about developing tendonitis. As soon as you are comfortable with it, start stretching and strengthening it. I recommend going to a good sports physiotherapist. That can drastically improve your healing and recovery. When you do recover, be careful because you will always have a propensity to injure the muscle in the same place. Stretch a lot, and strengthen it as much as you can.
