A Monday Morning Wakeup Bump.

Seriously, this should be a good time. I've been there for the past two weekends and there are some trails that need our help. It should be a great time and another chance to meet local climbers. Come join us ...

drum roll please .....

One More Week until this event happens. No replies yet, but I'm still hoping that those of us who frequent Rumney will take a couple of hours next Saturday to assist in making this area a better place to climb.

Hope to see you there ...

I am going to be interning in Boston. I won't be up there by 4/30, but are there any other events like this happening during the summer? I would like to know who to get in contact with to help out while I am there over the summer.

Keep me posted please.

Are all climbers of any level welcome to the Rumney event? Should we bring anything to the event?

Teach me to take the weekend off ... lots of questions ...

First, I'd like to make note that The Wall (Quechee, VT) and The Barn (Plymouth, NH), along with The Rumney Association will be hosting this event. Hats off to these groups.

Yes, everyone is welcome and if it's a little wet, it's still on.

Tools and equiptment needed for the tasks will be provided.

This is from the flyer I received:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
FIRST ANNUAL WALL CLIMBES TRAIL DAY

Tenatively - April 30, 2005
Trail Work - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BBQ (in parking lot) 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Climbing 1:00 PM till dark and beyound

Contact Alex Herr if you want to help coordinate efforts.
Phone: 678-481-1955 or email at: aherr@mccarthy.com
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Hope to see everyone there ... brings as many people as you'd like.

Thanks for your interest,
Alan

Here's an update about equiptment. It appears that there will be a larger group then expected, so here is the email that I received from Alex:

In reply to:
Alan,

Thank you for the help. I have thought about it some more and if people can bring tools to help that would be great. It sounds like we are going to have a good turn out and I am positive I can not out fit everyone with tools. I am going to meet with Jim Shemberg and Jenny Price at Rumney tomorrow to decide on which trails we are going to work on Saturday. If people could post to your message if they are thinking about coming.

Tools/Equipment/Supplies that would be useful are as follows

Pick Ax
Spade Shovel
Transfer Shovel
Johnson Bars
Racks
Safety Glass
Trash Bags
Gloves
Landscaping Ties/4X4/Old trees 4-6" in diameter
Small Motorola Talk About radios for communication

The guys that are helping me put this together will be providing hamburgers, hotdogs, potato chips and some sort of vegetarian meal (Possible veggie burgers or something). If other would like to bring additional side dishes or dessert that would be great.

Thanks again,

Alex

From the mouths of the organizers. We should be able to do a lot of trail work in the morning and have a blast the rest of the day.

Alan

edited 'cause I can't spell worth a shit.

As the weather set now, the rain will start in the afternoon. Looks like the morning will be partly cloudy and the rain will come in the afternoon. We should be fine!

AccuWeather reports: Intervals of clouds and sunshine in the morning, becoming windy in the afternoon with rain. Winds from the ESE at 8 mph. High: 56° F RealFeel: 57° F

NWS: MOSTLY CLOUDY. PATCHY FOG. RAIN SHOWERS LIKELY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE MID 50S. SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 70 PERCENT.

I'd bring a sweatshirt and a rain jacket just in case.

Cheers,
Alan

UPDATE:

In reply to:
Everything is a go for tomorrow. Please come give us a hand and give back something to the climbing area and community. The weather looks like it will be ok. We have a plan to work on the following trails

1) Main Cliff
2) Parking Lot Wall
3) Meadows
4) Black Jack, Starship, Triple Corners to Hinterlands

There is a good bit of work to be done and we could use all the help we can get. The Forest Service is going to be there with tools and will be helping direct everyone on how to build the necessary features.

UPDATE:

A handfull of hardy soles turned out for this event. We did manage to work on the approach from the main road to Meadows; fix the drainage issues by Rhinobucket; Create a new path over the dirty slabs that connect Meadows Right to the Parking Lot Wall, eliminating walking all the way down and back up; Redirect the water flow near Chloe's Breakfast Special and build up the surrounding area, and start new stairs leading to the Main Wall. All in all, a lot of needed work was accomplished, but there will be more work days in the future.

Thanks for all those who faired the weather. For those who wanted to come and could not, no worries, we'll get you next time!

Alan

Nice job Alan.. and thanks to you guys that got out there

i did attempt to make one stone stair at Jimmy cliff but my rock was not sharp enough to cut some roots so it's kinda half ass... but that middle section needs some work and i plan on doing at least some so that those new routes arent as hard to belay and move between

alot more needs work but you got the ball rolling and a good dent put it in
thanks again
Jake

It was a group effort so the credit goes to everyone involved. And as for your attempt, don't worry, if I had a choice of working with a bunch of people in the mud & rain or climb with a nice young lady, I'd be telling the story of my attempt at Jimmy Cliff!

Good to see yo again ...
