Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

I just got back from watching this movie and all I've got to say is WOW!
It was just as random a psychotic as I was expecting, I don't think they could of done any better.

While I HIGHLY recomend you go watch this fine peice of cinema confection, a little advice, READ THE BOOK FIRST!!! If you haven't read the book you won't get 90% of the Jokes. Once you've read the book just sit back and prepare for the random mind-frick that awaits you.

Rockrat gives this film 5 Stars!!!

Everything changed was either at the request of Adams or a reference to one of the later novels' i.e. Trillian and Arthur

Actually, I'm very glad that I haven't read the book yet. This really tends to ruin film adaptations. Reading books after seeing the film, on the other hand, is pretty worthwhile, as it fleshes out details usually not explored in films.

he asked to have trillian kidnapped to vogsphere?

instead of them heading strait to the planet based on inside that nebula being the most improbable place for it?

i liked that htey kept the whale and petunia's bit.

i did find it odd how they kept so much verbatim and then went on what appeared to be wild tangents.

While I would normally agree with you to some degree, in the case of this particular film there is just so much that you wouldn't "get" that I think you would be best off reading them first. Oh yeah, don't leave as soon as the credits roll, there is a little extra half-way through the credits.

I think the imporant thing to remember is that the guy who plays Willow is in it (even though he doesn't have any lines). Given that Willow was the greatest movie ever made this has to be fairly decent. Also, I think it's worth mentioning that I'm really drunk.

I go sleep now. G'night.

I'd marry you if you weren't a guy. In fact, I could probably work around that if I had to....

Fantastic movie... only thing, I wish they'd fleshed out Marvin a little more- he's one of my favourite characters in the books.

I read that he actually wrote most of the first draft of the script before he died.

Yes, but I seriously doubt he had much to do with the final draft. I'm a huge fan of his book and I'll bet the movie had him rolling over in his grave :!:

you can't really expect that book to be translated perfectly into movie form.

They're two different media forms, and therefore certain adjustments need to be made. HOnestly, I read the book a few weeks ago (i only later found out it was coming out in movie) and I think I'd like to see the movie, although I found the book to be patchy and even a bit sloppy at times.

Yep, AD had quite a hand in things for this movie...

That said, I will start a new thread - I want to know which movies have done books justice as I am curious to hear everyone's thoughts... Well that and I don't want to work....

I could never really get into the book version of Hitch hikers. I totally dug the movie though. I read a lot of sci fi bu this book left me high and dry. Maybe it was the dry pommy humour in it perhaps which is a little surprising in that I loved shows like the Goon show, Python, Kenny Everats video show etc.
