I do not see how to set up a top-rope on this climb. If someone could please inform me how to do so.
Please only reply if you have climbed here or have even climbed the route.

Hi Andy, We've climbed at Giant city although I'm not sure which rock you're reffering to. the largest I know has a few bolted anchor stations on the top flats. You also can sling the trees but you will need some 50' ones to do so. Also if you can find a copy of Vertical Heartland (new one due out 2002) it list all of these climbs plus Jackson, Drapers, Ferne Cliff and more. Hope this helps

I got the book... if you have the book then open it up and look under Giant City, you can't miss Devil's Standtable. I heard there used to be top-rope anchors at the top but when I was there they were not there.
Slinging makes good since but this route is a freestanding table... you have to "step" across a huge gap between the main wall and the table. Some guy told me to sling the whole standtable... but that didn't make since.
You probably won't be much help unless you have climbed it before but thanks Amish.

I spent this morning bouldering around the base of Devil's Standtable; all the while thinking, man I'd like to climb that thing, but how would I set up the toprope. So I got on here looking for some info, and look at the old thread I dug up.
Andy, have you been back since you posted this? Do you know the trick? Does anyone?
My 1981 guidebook says:
"No protection is available, so the climb must be toproped by wrapping slings around a wide flake on the top of the table. Back it off by placing secondaries in the small cracks and solution pockets at the very top of the face. Belay from the tree on the top of the large boulder."
What? Belay from the top of the boulder? Why? And how do you pull the roof on toprope? Does the rope run over the edge? According to the above beta, I guess the slings run over the edge, cause they are backed up on the face, below the roof. But then you'd be above the rope for the topout. If you fell then, you'd be falling onto the slings. Not good.
So, what's up?

Just thought I'd bump this up to the top again. Has anyone climbed this route?
It's called Devil's Standtable Classic. It's on the front of the freestanding table.
It looks like it has not been climbed in a looooong time.

I have done it. What you do is use the trees really far back for anchors and use webbing or a static rope to set up the top (the rope will go across the gap).

Thanks for the info. Are you saying to anchor from the main cliffline? And hang the anchor over the edge of the roof on the pedestal? Did you protect the anchor material with something where it runs over the edge? I've just never toproped a roof like that.

Yep, anchor from the main cliffline and hang it over the edge. I didn't protect it with any material, but you can if you want. Its not really a roof at all you just have to lean out a bit.

I still haven't climbed it... when I went there last I was going to use my 70ft piece of webbing and anchor off one of the trees in the back. My only delima was figuring out how to equalize the damn thing. I'd be up for another trip to Giant City in June if there are takers or physics majors. :lol:

on the east side on the standtable there is a large flake rap slings around it and anchor the belayer in. belay from the top. photos are in the guide book.
