I will be in Glenwood Springs on June 1-3 for a conference. I will be free to climb after 4:00 each day. I'm looking for partners. I'll climb any and all styles except bouldering unless it's my only option. What areas are good to climb? I'm interested in moderate trad or sport in the 10s.

Thanks.

Anyone looking for an after work partner? I guess if I find myself without a partner, I'd like to at least get out on some long hikes. Any suggestions on that? The sheep and her lamb cannot bare to be confined to the Hotel Colorado the whole time. :-(

Hike storm king mountain and check out the firefighter memorial. Hit up the Assburn (Aspen) area and do some of the hikes around there. Lot's to do. Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon is supposed to be nice (popular) too.

Thanks Gary. Anything above treeline?

I *might be able to climb with you if I could catch a ride there with you. I'll be at Devils Tower on Memorial weekend and am trying to make my way to Cali. with my thumb or RC.com-ers. Keep looking for partners, but it just might pan out in the end. Oh, and I know nothing of climbing in Glenwood by the way.

Depending on the weather, both Poux and rifle are a short drive from glenwood springs. You should be able to cage a belay from people at the crags, but their isn't a ton of stuff in the 10 range at rifle. Poux has a lot of moderates though and is only minutes away. Anything above treeline is probably still snowy, but if you don't mind that, Sopris is a great hike.

What is the state of climbing down in the canyon in the areas around the dam? Is it all shut down and off limits now that the I 70 runs throught the canyon. I lived there in '77 and put up some routes on a face that I believe, from looking at pictures, is now wholly occupied by an eastbound tunnel entrance...

Yeah, you could catch a ride with me. I'll be leaving Denver around 2:00 on June 1. Let me know if that works for you.

Driving through GS the other evening on the way to Moab I saw some people climbing sport routes at the eastern end of town, above the river and train tracks not too far from the train station. It really looked good, but I was in a rush and didn't have time to check it out. Its not Poux which is at the entrance of the canyon on the other side of the river. The climbing up from the no name exit is another option. GS has a pretty active climbing community so you should be able to find partners. Summit Canyon Mountaineering would be a good place to check for local beta. Cheers John.

Yeah, that would probably work out fairly well. I'm headed to South Carolina for my sister's college graduation (from culinary school, yum), so I'll probably be out of touch for a bit, but I'll PM you with what's up when I get back (next Friday). Keep looking for partners though, I don't want to be the bum you counted on climbing with that... blah, blah, blah, you know the deal.
