Not a very romantic topic, but I think it's worth thinking about. Here are a few that I can remember:

John Yablonski
Earl Wiggins
Tobin Sorenson
Derek Hersey
Dan Osman
Rick Cashner
James Lucas
John Bachar
Alain Robert

Selfish and egotistical - lives
Selfless and altruistic - worm food

Let this be a lesson to us all.

I know very little about Earl Wiggins, but I read that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Did he have cancer?

no, he's not dead, but the OP did include "soloists who've been injured" in his criterion list. IMO that pretty much includes any climber that has ever soloed, since I know very few climbers who have never been injured.
Kinda makes the list pointless too!

Talk about a stupid inappropriate thread. It seems to be based on the premise that you have to be insane to be a good climber. WTF.

Sorry, I thought it was obvious. Forum titles need to be short - it should have read "Soloists who have died or fallen and been injured WHILE soloing.
