I'm going to be in Austin, TX for a few days for business. Would like to get a work out either, bouldering, sport, or trad if you have a rack (i'm leaving the rack behind since i will be there only 3 days) on my free time.
If anyone could provide me with areas and directions it would be greatly appreciated. And if any of you cowgirls want to show me i'll buy the beers and dinner after climbing. :D

wow they have changed the site from the last time i checked it, but here is a link to the topos for most of austin.

if you are coming in over a weekend, then reimers is a good place to get out, and everyone is really friendly.
if you will be here on a tuesday or thursday there are generally climbers out at the New Wall on Barton Creek.
depending on when you are coming out i might be able to introduce you to some of the groups that climb together.

what dates?? I will be more than happy to take you to do either sport or boulder. (not trading yet) there are some great sport routs all over town and good bouldering too. pm me and let me know what the dates for your trip are and wwe can work something out . I generally make my own schedule at work so with enough notice I can prob accomdate your schedule....

The green Belt is easy to find and normally has climbers all day evry day.

- I'd call Chuy's "Tex-Mex" as opposed to Mexican. Anyhow...good place. I like the Green Chili Stew there.
- Rudy's BBQ, despite being a chain, is pretty good. I like the turkey and pork loin.
- Salt Lick is, IMHO, overrated.
- ditto for County Line
- I definitely second the migas at Kerby Lane.
Give me Coopers BBQ in Llano any day. Another favorite of mine is Opie's on Hwy 71 in Spicewood.

Dude, everyone knows the best BBQ is in Lockhart!!
And if you want REAL mexican food is has to be La Tapitia (3 locations in Austin-all of them total DIVES!!)
Then again it we are giving advice to a YANKEE for peat's sake! What difference is it really? It is all going to be out of this world compared to what he is getting back home!! (Just kidding)

For mexican food, I would STRONGLY recommend Enchiladas y Mas on Anderson Lane. Best fajitas in centex.
For BBQ in-town, I'd suggest World BBQ Headquarters, in the farmer's market on Burnet Road (Across from the putt-putt course). They're up there with Coopers (If not higher on the top 10), but much closer.
For tex-mex, Chuys works - and so do a dozen other restaurants. If you like hole-in-the-wall places, there's La Cosita on Mesa, a few blocks off Spicewood Springs Rd - or Maudi's, a favourite of mine, on Town Lake Blvd, next to the laundramat. :)
For burgers (why not) - I'd go to Dirty's (Dirty Martin's) on Guadalupe, between 28th and 29th st - despite the name, they have some of the best ones in town.

tex-mex: maudies on south lamar (chuys doesn't hold a candle to maudie's in my opinion.)
pizza: austin's pizza on south lamar
burgers: player's at guadalupe and mlk (better eat here quick the university is trying to use imminent domain to buy this place and turn it into a parking garage for their new conference center)
vietnamese: triumph cafe off of spicewood springs road.
bbq: art's rib house on south lamar near bluebonnet
