As I speak I'm moving to Blacksburg, VA and I need to climb. My former roomates and I are planning a trip out west to do our first Big Wall on El Cap, and I need to train. So I'm looking to find where all there is to climb around here (I've been to Bozoo once), and for some people to head out with. I've been doing most of my climbing at Seneca Rocks (I will be heading back there many times through the summer), and I've been trad leading (onsight) 5.6s. I follow and top rope probably up to about the 5.9 range there. I refer all of these rating to Seneca, because it's sand bagged, and I haven't climbed any where else in a while. (though I did climb a supposed 5.10d at Coopers Rock, WV - it wasn't that hard) So, yeah, back to the point: I could use a climbing partner, or beta on the area.

The best climbing you'll find in the area is the bouldering at McAffees knob, outside of Roanoke. Otherwise, the New might still be the closest five-star area. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I used to live in FAR southwest Virginia, and I had better luck going to North Carolina.

There are seriously like 5 threads of people in Blacksburg, try a search for Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, VT, something like that. Or just scroll down and look at those. PS. I'll see you in the fall hopefully! Mark

digging threads up from the grave! I'm in the Blacksburg VA area for a couple of weeks (staying in Christiansburg) and looking for nearby gyms or mini-crags/boulders to run laps on in the evening after "work." Looked at "The Rock" gym on the rc.com page, but i don't even know if the place is still open. anyone living around Blacksburg know of a good local place for a bit of exercise? [aside from the hokie stone - which i will resort to if it comes down to it] Thanks!
