toying with the idea of hanging out in the red next year from august through october.
is this feasible or ludicrous? give a shout out!

The gorge is a schorcher in the summer. I would say August would not be that great of an idea but the Red is always a fun place to go. We are going the first week in March of 2002. It is going to be really coool outside and it will be alot funner to climb then than in the heat of the RED.
Just a little info you might not know. Stay at Miguel's pizza. A climbers campground in back for $2 a night per person. If you saw the recent Rock & Ice (the one about pictures?) it had the red river gorge in it and had 2 or 3 pictures of Miguel's but never mentioned them. A great place to stay! Friendly, Friendly, Friendly. And if you stay up late enough, a few of the Gorge junkies come out to show some bouldering problems on lawn furniture on the porch of Miguel's, just ask someone to show you... It is funny to watch.

What state is the Red in? It sounds like a great place and the pictures in R&I were great.

Kentucky, located about half an hour South of Lexington on the Mountain Parkway. Waaaayyy Coool exposure in the Red.

I go almost evey year in late August and it's never really been all that bad. Sure it's a little humid, but nothing intolerable or unclimable.

We all have our different types of heat tolerance. Mine being very low. Kriso might be closer to your tolerance. I would rather climb in the snow if it were up to me.

September and October.
The end of August would be good for running laps and getting used to the pumpy and steep enduro routes, but a little humid for trying to send hard projects.
Miguel's closes after the american Thanksgiving, that's usually the end of the season. Prime weather ends a couple of weeks before that.

Just got back from the Red and Andy-lemon is right Miguels is the place to stay, he also makes an awesome pizza. November is generally a little late in the season but we sure had nice weather. Unlimited number of Great climbs.

i was in the RRG on the canadian thanksgiving (october) and froze my ass off. my friends went american thanksgiving (november) and practically came back with tans.

dude im a huge fan of oct. threw march its just so nice and there is so much friction! all year is good for the RRG but it gets damn hot in the summer if you do go over the winter just dress right the nights are cold
