What is your preferred method of endurance traning? Will you rope up and run laps; climbing up and climbing down? Or will you boulder laps?

I do both. Loads of fun.

I go jogging, but I don't do specific endurance training for climbing.

Up and down climbing laps on routes is great. And dead hangs are killer for forearm endurance.

I pick the pumpiest route I can find, and then work it until I can send without getting pumped. I hate laps so I don't do them.

I try to do at least 3 laps a day around the Twin Spires at the Garden of the Gods traversing as fast as I can. It's a heck of a workout. My personal record is 7 laps without falling, but my partner (always eager to top me) went 14 laps w/o falling - b@stard!

I have to run and lift for work twice a day anyway, so I guess that doesn't hurt either.

I've posted this technique/workout before, but...

Do 4 X 4's, pick an EASY route, do it 4 times in a row, rest and chalk up only ON the wall, do not loiter on the ground, get back on IMEDIATELY. This is 4 X 1.

Do 3 more routes 4 times each, AFTER A REST, works good if your belayer is doing the same workout. Your 2nd route should be a little harder than the 1rst, 3rd a little harder than the 2nd, with the 4th being of the same grade as the 2nd.

When I'm home and not on a climbing trip, I go to a gym twice a week, once a week I do 4 X 4's, this will build mass stamina. Instead of climbing a 20' to 30' route, you'll actually be climbing an 80' to 120' route, which is the length of most pitches.

However, do not only work stamina. If you do, you will have endurance but NO POWER, bouldering builds the power needed for some moves that stamina alone will not get you through.

Good luck,
rrrADAM
