Wow, there's a lot to learn about this sport, but I think i'm getting a "hold" of the basics. Hehehe, I "crack" me up! I've been reading the climber's dictionairy, but there is actually a question that i've been pondering that maybe someone could answer for me. I read in another post that durring a long or strenuos climb, one could hang by one arm and their skeleton would support them instead of their muslces. Ehh, I just tried hanging from a door and it didn't work, without standing next to me, can anyone take a poke at what i'm doing wrong? Thanks...

Well, they aren't talking about free hanging with your feet dangling. They mean that it takes less energy to hang relaxed and straight armed than it does to hang with bent arms (i.e., they mean it takes 'less' energy, not 'zero' energy). Again, your feet have to be on something. Let me know if this doesn't make any sense...it's early on a Monday.

j is right.

When you hang with one arm straight it takes up less energy. If you lean into it you are putting a lot more stress on your muscles which just "pumps" you out quicker.

Like I said....j is right.I didn't really give any new info. so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Ahh yes, feet, makes sense. Ok, and what did you mean by "leaning into it"? Thanks

Having your body in tight to the wall/rock with bent arms. This burns you out quickly.
