Hey all,

planning a trip to Vegas to climb red-rock in September, any thoughts on the Suncoast Hotel? It seems that it's the closest to RR

Has anyone stayed there? Any reviews of the hotel would be appreciated.

C

I stay there every time I go to red rocks. VERY close to red rocks, away from the strip, and everything you would want (except the strip) is right there. Grocery store, climbing store, restaurants. Oh, and there's a movie theatre and a bowling alley in the casino. And the rooms are big and new, and if I remember correcly, relatively inexpensive for vegas. My one complaint is that they used to have, and may still have, restrictions on what days you are able to check in/out of the hotel. Make sure you understsand these restrictions. I recommend the place.

Don't know how the rooms are since I didn't stay in there. The good thing is that it is quite close to the edge of Vegas and to the 13 mile campgrounds. It's a 5 min car ride from the campground to the hotel, making it an ideal place to get some buffet after a day of climbing! And I can attest that they will let you eat even if you're a smelly dirty climber.

Oh, and the buffet closes at 9pm. Go in at 8:55 and grab 4 plates of food and eat like you've been walking in the desert for days.. worked for me!

The SunCoast is great. I've never stayed there, but the outdoor pool and hottub are always empty!

I've stayed in the parking lot. You get a free and in-person wakeup call at about 5am.

The Suncoast was the buffet of choice when I was staying out at Red Rocks. If the casino area and buffet are any indication of the rest of the place then it looks like its quite a nice place for an affordale price. The prices are from its being so far removed from the strip I assume, but it sounds like you're going for climbing, not for the night life.

SO i just got back from Vegas. the suncoast hotel was first rate!

The hotel is new, the rooms were HUGE (550 sq feet) and the staff kept the place immaculately clean. we stayed for a total of 9 nights and it averaged out to 65/night total (not per person)

The buffet was good for breakfast, but dinner was not worth it, in my opinion. also - stay away from the Sunday brunch... it's basically the same thing they server during the week, for lunch AND dinner.... and it was 15 per person (i think) as opposed to the normal breakfast price of 6.50.

the pool was empty all week and on the weekend - may have had something to do with the fact that the temp was in 80s - considered cool by normal Vegas standards. You can get food and drinx by the pool.

I'd HIGHLY suggest the bagel shop on the casino floor (don't remember the name) but they had the BEST bagels, sandwiches, and cakes/cookies. The coffee was good too.

there's an ice cream shop called Kate's korner that was the best ice cream i ever had.

They had $3 tables during the week and on weekend days and $5 tables on weekend nights (a rarity in Vegas from what i can tell)

it was less than 15 minutes away from red rock.

It's kinda far from the strip but they DO have a shuttle that runs between them and the gold coast hotel/casino on the strip.

Wednesday night they have an awesome house band (called the nerds or something like that) that play all 80's music. The range of music they played was phenomenal - i didn't realize i liked so much 80s music. :)

I can't say enough positive things about the place. I'll DEF be going back there.

Any tips on renting a car/catching a ride? I want to take the family this spring so we have to be fairly normal in the lifestyle department but renting a car just to get back an forth seems excessive...

Go to priceline.com for car rental. You pick the time for pick-up, drop-off and it was very cheap.

for what it's worth, I'd say renting a car is not excessive in red rocks, it's pretty much essential, especially with a family...
