Not sure if this post should go to "trip reports" or here... I just recently came back from a wonderful 4 day climbing trip to the City of Rocks. This was my 5th visit there, but I had not been there in about 10 years. Living in the San Francisco Bay area, it's a 15 hr drive, and I find the whole camping experience a bit difficult on "fly-in" trips. So when an old partner suggested we do a trip there, I said, in a heartbeat, if I can find a place to stay in Almo (the town right outside the City - 3 miles). To my delight, I found out that there is now a restaurant in Almo, the Outpost. The owners have also built 3 little cabins, which have porches and picnic tables attached. Climbers may feel more at home in the cabins than in the other Almo lodging options, which are B&Bs. We rented the "Outlaw cabin" for $65 a night. It had a large bathroom with shower, a double bed, a bunk bed and a twin bed, a mini-fridge and a microwave and a breakfast basket provided. The restaurant serves good burgers etc. and excellent home-made pies. The climbing in the City was as wonderful as I remembered. I am equally happy climbing trad and clipping bolts, so I love the mix of routes here. We had perfect weather and beautiful flora and fauna. I love the camping in the City, and I recommend doing that if you can, but if for some reason that won't work for you, here are some alternatives right in Almo: The Outpost Cabins - 208-824-5531 The old Homestead B&B - 208-824-5521 another B&B 208-824-5531 Happy Climbing, Phyllis

Thanks for the info phylp. It is especially helpful for those of us climbers who seem to have outgrown "dirtbagging". A B&B close to the City sounds like a great place to take my fiance.
