I'd really rather not have to pay $5 a night to camp in camp 4 after paying for gas to get there from Oregon. Where can I camp for free in the Valley? Also, i was down there in June and there was tons of mosquitos. Will they still be a problem in Early sept? Thanks

Didn't similar discussions last year cause some problems for climbers in the valley?

dude, you're complaining about $5 a night? It's around $20 in other CG's. If you can afford $200 in gas you can afford $5 a night. Like the guy said, no one's going to post an idiot's guide to bandit camping. i suppose you if you're desperate, you could sleep in the back of your truck next to the ranger station. There will be fewer mosquitoes there.

You could try your luck to land a wilderness permit without reserving one and camp out in the woods. The water levels were pretty high this year, hence the extra mosquitos, but I'm hoping/assuming the mosquitos will die down in september. I didn't notice as much of a mosquito problem in the valley as much as Tuolumne. Glen Aulin was mosquito hell!

Let me tell you exactly how to camp in Yosemite for free, but watch out, a vigilante RC.comer might come out and place a citizen's arrest on your sorry ass for even suggesting such a notion as camping for free. First, don't bring your car into the park... it's lame.. once thats accomplished gain entrance to the park via bus... next step, find a patch of woods on the eastern end of the park away from all the traffic and bullshit that ruins the Yosemite experience. pitch tent at dusk... break camp at dawn... climb... repeat process..

Asking "How can I camp free in the Valley" is akin to asking "How can I further degrade climber-ranger relationships in the Valley"
