I particularly like the juxtaposition of the loose-rock-pants-shitting-5.8-he-man spray with the excessive, slightly gay use of emoticons.

Laugh if you want, but I've climbed with him and he can climb and has put up a lot of routes. He also does sport. He is a little put off by people who claim to be able to climb 5.12 sport but shit their pants when climbing trad routes. Anyone who moves into trad from sport will be humbled by the climbs they will be climbing. I know I was and now I claim to climb in the 5.9 range, instead of the 10 range. As far as his personality goes, I'll tie in with him any day. He is far from being a washed out old trad climber ... he's younger then I am! Alan

Wow, who cares? He doesn't sound very washed up to me. You sound like a washed up Troll. Someone post that animation of the guy typing and smashing his face off the keyboard... I love that one. Actually, screw climbing, whining on the internet is much more exciting.

Sorry if my reply seemed to be a shaking finger, but you have to admit that trad climbing puts the fear into you that sport does not. Other then saying that tradmanclimbs is a good climber that I'd climb with, I'm not much at bashing any part of climbing. I boulder, sport and trad. It's all good! Alan

You missed the point, but that's par for the course around here.
In reply to: ...you have to admit that trad climbing puts the fear into you that sport does not. Sometimes trad climbing is scarier than sport; sometimes sport climbing is scarier than trad. It Depends (tm), as usual.
In reply to: Other then saying that tradmanclimbs is a good climber that I'd climb with, I'm not much at bashing any part of climbing. Me neither. Why defend people who are? The sport-bashing comment from the bitter, washed-up trad climber has become a cliche. Now they have their own thread. -Jay

I guess I don't understand this persistent sport/trad argument since I do both and would feel incomplete as a climber if I had to exclude either one. In fact, as I become more experienced, stronger, wiser, and able to climb harder climbs, the line between sport and trad becomes very grey and nebulous. It's all killer, whether you're clipping bolts or desperately slamming in cams.

If "tradmanclimbs" is a real person, and not an internet alter ego, I would like to sincerely suggest that he take some time off of climbing. The post could be used in a torte case against him if he is ever unlucky enough to have someone injured while they were climbing with him. I would warn anybody against climbing with him. His apparent lack of empathy is apalling. He seems to be so wound up about how other people climb compared to him that he can't be much fun to be around.

I climb both sport (1%) and trad (99%). I enjoy trad much better because it lets you get more than one pitch off of the ground! (Just the way it is in New England)

Hey remember the phrase Boulder for power, Sport for endurance, Trad for Life... and so on. It's all climbing. Just throw the F***ing stick clip away, the FA'ist put it up that way for a reason. They didn't put the bolts high or far apart so a puss could come along and stick clip them all, they put the bolts that way for climbers who are ready for the grade.
