The Beginners have their own forum. It's pretty clear from the recent "helmet" thread that RC.com would benefit from a forum where only the more experienced climbers could deal with topics discussed. I suggest 20 years of climbing experience be the threshold for participating. No, really I'm serious. Curt

Yea! I'm into it. Actually I wouldn't be allowed into it, but it would be something to aspire to. It's kinda like getting a watch for retirement. I can't wait to be old and crotchity!

So would it need to be a members-only club-type forum, like Warriors Way was, or do you just want to flame any encroaching n00b into the next century?

It would be a very lonley place to be. How many people actually have 20+ years of climbing on this site? I'd probably be dead before I ever reached the qualifications, but what the hell ... old farts need a place to hang just like the rest of us

i think it's an interesting idea. policing membership/posts would be difficult, methinks, but i think a lot of noobs(myself included) would benefit from reading the ramblings of some older, more experienced, (if not also more cratchety:lol:) climbers. my (noob-ian) suggestion would be to make it readable by anyone, but postable only by those voted/selected/invited to join, however that process works. i know there is/was? a filter option at one time, but iirc it was mostly geared to limit foul language. could it be worked into something like on slashdot, where one can filter out posts that get voted poorly, and only view those deemed informative/funny/contributing to the thread..?

I'd adjust the qual's to: - 10+ years - multiple areas - multiple rock types - >10 partners - exp. bouldering/ sport/ trad/ aid/ ice

Damn! I can't buy a break. I'm nine months shy of Curt's qualifications and a style shy of yours. Ice? Brrrr... I'll still to the n00b forum.

J - maybe at least two of the different styles, not necessarily all 4 of them?

Interesting concept, so where would it go? A more general version of the Zion History thread?

In reply to: So would it need to be a members-only club-type forum, like Warriors Way was, or do you just want to flame any encroaching n00b into the next century? Yeah, I'm thinking only members who regularly buy Geritol would be allowed to post. Of course, each thread would veer off tangentially from the OP, and would end with folks talking about their latest bowel movements and how the young'uns just don't understand what it is really like to use goldline. Oh, and how the drugs were so pure back in the day.

In reply to: I'd adjust the qual's to: - 10+ years - multiple areas - multiple rock types - >10 partners - exp. bouldering/ sport/ trad/ aid/ ice The 20 year number was arbitrary, but I though that would be a good minimum. Ten years is certainly not enough, perhaps it should be 25 years of climbing experience? Also, there are already forums for trad, sport, aid, etc., so the requirement would be 20 years of general rock climbing experience. Curt

Sounds risky, I mean, why make it something as arbitrary as time served? And then you have to ask if bouldering counts, or if someone only climbed 5.5, but did a lot of them. What happens with the other fringe cases, like folks with 25 yrs but they wear a helmet *all* the time ( to take a crap and everything ). Maybe just the "Curt Approved" forum? Lets be serious, nobody gets close to 9K post on rc.com w/o loving doing the grommet hammer. Come on, come out and say it, admission is the first step. "Hi, I'm curt, and I love to say STFU n00b." Murf edit - speling and grammer

In reply to: I'd adjust the qual's to: - 10+ years How about making it 35-plus years instead? That way you'd not only limit membership to people who really know their shit, but also have been around long enough to not feel like it's a sign of weakness to show patience and respect to other less experienced climbers. In other words, an "rgold-only" forum. JL
