I'm thinking about working at Alta this winter. Is there climbing available in Big Cottonwood Canyon from nov. to jan.? Is it too cold, wet, or icy?

If you're working at Alta, you'll be in Little Cottonwood. There is winter rockclimbing in both canyons, dependent on snow. If there hasn't been much recently, a sunny Jan day on the south facing side of LCC can be very good. But after a big dump of snow, you may go several days before anything is very climbable.
There is some ice climbing during parts of most winters.

The first response is right, you're LCC. However, Hell's Gate would be okay on sunny days. In BCC I enjoyed the upper S-curves although some days that hike is a bit slushy or otherwise unhikable.
