I'm just curious how many of you guys/girls dont just climb but workout in a gym on a regular basis? Have you found that you enjoy climbing more since you started? Ive found that swimming every other day for at least an hour is what like to do espically after I go boulder it feels so good.

I work out every day to stay in good shape. I have found that when i go rock climbing now, I can pull moves that require a lot of flexibility, and i can pull myself up with one hand to reach for better handholds a lot better.

I am a newbie to climbing and my body has been out of shape for 6 years or so. I do not work out other than climbing because when I am done climbing my mucsles are whipped, it's all the work out I can handle. I try to climb/boulder three times a week, leaving the other days for rest.

When my muscles begin to tell me that climbing is not all I can handle, then I will start to substitute my climbing with climbing related exercises.

I do run, but only once a week. I want to bump that up but have not got into a routine yet.

If you do not have it, purchase How to Climb a 5.12, ISBN: 1-57540-083-9 ... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1575400839/qid=1027948111/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-3273508-7029700

Have fun, climb hard but safe.

I'm like coolpops in that I could be fitter, but I've read a lot of posts that say working out can be a bad idea because climbing is so intense (which is perfect for me because I hate lifting weights).

I run and bike 3-4 times a week to lighten the load I have to haul up the wall.

I jog 2-3 times a week and use a gym....definitely helps with strength....although just back in NZ have not yet had a chance to join a gym, and it shows...

I climb 3 times a week (on a schedule). I do pullups, pushups, and an ab roller workout 3 other days out of the week (also on a schedule). I would consider myself to be muscularly fit, but not aerobically at all, I need to run again. I got out of the habit of running when I went to college, but the rest of my workout keeps me appearing fit

I have heard numerous of times that the best work out for rock climbing is climbing. That way you work all the muscles you need for climbing all at once.

I've been working out 3-4 days a week for about a month, but I haven't been to the rock gym since then so I can't tell how big of a difference it made yet. Actually I did manage to find some boulders near the end of an 11 mile hike in Georgia. I also play baseball during the spring, any kind of workout should help

HA! Actually I don't do anything else other than climb -or walk everywhere- But thats it. No extra training for me...although I should look into it~

Rock hard
