I was up on Mt. Belford yesterday and noticed Belford Falls from the Clear Creek road (Chaffee County, CO). Anyone know if it's climbable in winter? It looks pretty sweet and must be 300+ feet or more!!!

Yeah, it's climbable. I soloed it 7 or 8 years ago. The falls look impressive from the road but the climbing is only WI2 or so. At the time, COBS taught ice courses there so I was able to find a trail to the base. Don't know if that's still the case.

In reply to: I was up on Mt. Belford yesterday and noticed Belford Falls from the Clear Creek road (Chaffee County, CO). Anyone know if it's climbable in winter? It looks pretty sweet and must be 300+ feet or more!!! HAHA! I posted the same question a few months ago when I did Huron.
In reply to: I saw a nice looking water fall off of County Road 390 yesterday. It's located at the 6 mile mark, on the way out to Oxford, Belford, Huron, etc. . . It appears to be approximately 3 pitches long. Does this falls freeze up? If so, what does it go at? It would appear to be about WI3. Thanks. I guess it looks a lot steeper from the road. I'll go up this winter and climb it.

There is a description of a Belford Fallls on Climbingboulder.com(I am assuming this is the same one). http://climbingboulder.com/...t_belford_falls.html Sounds like a bit of work to get to it but it would be a fun moderate outing (my favorite kind). By this time of year I am so jonesing for some ice climbing that I start pouring over guide books and route descritions on climbingboulder.com for hours. Pathetic, but less disturbing to folks than fondling your ice tools with that special gleam in your eye...... There are several reports that Mt Lincoln is starting to form up... George

Thx for the link gb. I looked for it on the boulder site but did'nt see it. Looks like a great early season solo. Specially since I'm so close. I'll take my GPS when I go to assist on the approach/descent for other interested parties. PM me if you want to go...ditto to Mother_Sheep... -Lee ps. I'm up for Lincoln Falls whenever. Been there once last year and love that it's only an hr. away for me!
