Depends on what you want to climb.

Ice?
Rock?
Mountain?
Ladder?

I guess it should be fairly obvious from my question. Which mountain Range has the best weather and conditions in January? Assuming, there are not alot of memorable rock routes and fire ladders I can get enough of here, Snow and Ice is the medium I am wondering about.

really it depends more on the route than the range. cotopaxi and chimborazo were both in good shape at the end of december when i was on them back in 99. when i was there again in april there was deep snow on cotopaxi that made it miserable, but the illinizas were in good shape. the weather was killer and dry this year at the end of february and i think everything would have been climbable, though i was shocked at how much the glaciers have receded. it was even dry heading into sangay.

the cool thing about ecuador is that you only need a very short window of good weather, and you can always go to the beach or the jungle to kill time if the weather sucks.

For Chimborazo normal route and/or Iliniza, one of the technical routes....is their lots of snow there right now? Is it better with skis?
Thanks for any advice
